At least there is lip service to diplomatic negotiations being the most likely to be effective choice/action.

Kerry's younger former self would be ashamed when he addressed Congress on the Vietnam War. I think he is ashamed actually. His stance and expressions remind me a lot of how Colin Powell walked around like he felt dirty from touting the BushCo talking points. Lip service but doesn't believe it. I think it will be hard for him to live with this grave, dire decision.

I've hoped for diplomatic negotiations to be more prominent in the resolution, but the plan for a diplomatic solution is required within 30 days of the enactment of the resolution. That sounds very much like "shoot now, talk later" to me. The first priority is showing the world that the US will not let Assad get away with using chemical weapons (as alleged).

DID YOU NOT KNOW THIS BEFORE NOW?????? Don`t have to be fans of "hidden agendas", "dark men", "conspiracy" and so forth to see this. It is only pure common sense. Sometimes i really really wonder why people don`t belive what is happening. Maybe they are TOO indoctrinated in the system. EVERYDAY we see what is happening. Just look at the hawks who want to start caos by intervene in Syria. This is a ticking bomb. You have the russian, iranien and so forth close close to where the action will take place. Those who want war have tried and tried to make it happen for a long time, and when it does not go the way they want they "make a new situation" and a little bit harder every time to make it happend. Look at the last situation with egypt, look at the last situation with syria. In syria 100,000 have died BEFORE the gassattack that killed 1000. It did not happend much before so the gassattack is just another turn to get the war started. John Kerry GUARANTEE last night that not intervene WILL make the situation worse???? You ALL could see how he started to have problem with explaining. In the last part of the hearing he could only refere to todays closed meeting. The whole situation is ONLY a play for the audience. Great that the hearing where live so you all could see this theater. I must also say i where surprised of most of the congress people that was NOT pro to john Kerry and his compadres. Important issues and commom sense from many senators did make me feel better :-) The whole play from Kerry & Co was just that; A PLAY! Hope you americans can see what is going on and take action. A little of topic but had to say something about this :-)

I was amazed when I read this news today, also that Putin is softening up on hitting Syria. Thanks Carrie.

Even Putin says he will now support some type of punitive strike but he wants to see the evidence and so do I. How about concentrating on all the displaced people and helping the governments into whose countries they have fled clothe and feed them; give medical assistance.
I'm leaning more and more that this is just another profiteering attempt by the puppet masters who control King Barky.

We should leave Syria alone and let the UN handle things.

Just heard on the radio that our Prime Minister, Harper and representatives from other countries are meeting is Russia to discuss what actions to take. I am peeved with Harper as we were always known as a peace keeping country. I agree with Theodore's comments of concentrating on all the displaced people, feeding and clothing and giving medical assistance. Stay out of Syria!

I don't agree with Obama. They can't even take care of this country and do right y us. They couldn't even bring Bush etal up on war crimes and all they o is keep getting us iinto things we never signed onto and talk bout pressing forward. Look at them salivating over their conquest.

I would not be surprised if the plan from the start is to invade that country and take it over. Obama is Bush continued.. A phony Democrat and a real republican. I must apologize to someone; who swore up and down he is the anti Christ.. I stood my ground and said no.. He's a good guy give him a chance. God help us deliver us from the madness that runs our country. All they know is lies and war and killing innocent people. along with death and destruction. No Elizabeth ..another oil opportunity.. They don't care about those people let alone children. They are evil... just like Bush and Cheney.etal

I agree with Lyn L For my 2 cents
I have believed Obama is W the 2nd since he signed the fascist NDAA indeffinate detention provisions and heard his apologist BS about the NSA blanket spying on Americans he expanded all of W's fascist shit. They might as well be twins .Pretty much a 16yr W presidency.

Let Syrians take care of their own government, not us! We ignore genocide in other countries, but why stick our nose in Syria's business. We can't even take care of our own by passing an affordable heath care act, yet we have money to burn in other countries. Countries that hate us too!!

Many excellent comments so far that I agree with. I've contacted my Congress members asking them to vote against U.S. military action against Syria. Period. Unfortunately, McCain the Warmonger wants MORE action, and the Flake just nods in agreement. Hopefully I can get through to my House member....but he's a Blue Dog. I had some hope that 9 members of the committee voted against it. It was interesting to note Rand Paul & other GOP members voting with Udall of CO & other Dems. Gonna be a long week!

I just heard on the news that the Senate committee has recommend approval of a limited strike within 90 days of approval and prohibits boots on the ground by a 10-7 vote. Now the matter goes to the entire Senate for debate and vote. No word on the party breakdown of the vote. Of course, it still has to go through the House.

One very amusing, if not down right ludicrous matter is John McCain. Apparently during the committee meeting, McCain aka McCon Job (R-AZ) was seen playing poker on his smart phone during the committee discussions.

What would you suggest Diane O since they're all warmongers and military profit-mongers on the right. The Miserable Failure of Mr. Bush is too close, fresh and raw to be easily forgotten how your side completely botched that one. AND your party still doesn't want to pay for the the war they wanted...although they want the American Middle Class to pay.

No country has the right to interfere in another countries internal affairs. America has been doing this openly since the second world war. It also has an ongoing policy of creating false flags to facilitate and legalise its criminal activity based on profits for the military /industrial alliance Roosevelt warned Americans about in his farewell speech. Anyone who promotes war has no love in themselves.

we need to stay out of it. it's a muslim problem not ours. you can't tell the good guys from the bad guys. both sides are evil and will use whatever means to get the other. obama is the one playing cowboy and now he thinks it's time to drag the rest of us with him. i say no and have told my members in congress to vote no.
it's time to let our so called reps know that we don't want this. if obama wants it so bad let him go to syria and fight it out with assad. i don't want our tax dollars used to support terrorists.

The situation in Syria is complex and veeeery hot regarding to neighboring countrys AND their Allied. Starting a US lead war, even a tiny small one will be as throwing a match on gasoline. I really can`t think of a similar situation exept the cuba crisis, and this i think is even worse. I really hope the american People can see what is going on and that they take actions against this, who can be the biggest nightmare of all for all!

We, as a country, really do not want this. Have we not forgotten what was spent in Afghanistan and Iraq? Have we not forgotten the millions of returning vets without limbs and for what? Civil wars? No one can make a difference in the middle east. They don't want a democracy. They want to kill each other to eradicate certain groups.

Obama opened his incompetent mouth and now his ego is on the line. Congress needs to vote no and get down to the business of fixing what is wrong in America. Let Allah Sort It Out in the middle east.

Oh the Humanity shown in the comments.!. Where is the outrage. ? A monster kills 200,000 of his own people,by bombing, shelling and torturing(children) He deliberately uses Chemical weapons on 1,000 just to show his followers how strong he is,Reminds me of anothet Monster, Mr Schicklgruber! (look it up.) He of course wanted to remove certain ethic groups from the planet entirely.
Where is Mr Churchill when you need him?( he had thecourage to say NO. not on my watch.)
To Diane O. Allah is just another name for God,(he has many)

I listened to OUR legislators whining that America is not the Worlds policemen, may I suggest that you stop behaving as though you are!
and I feel that the self description of the USA as the" Greatest and most powerfull country in the World" needs a little walking back.No one in their right mind, with the exception of defence contractors wants to promote war,let us hope that cooler heads prevail, that a solution is worked out and that the two miliion Syrians who are seeking asylum can return to their home in peace.(They are people too)

Thanks for a place to vent. whatever we think war is.. we know it is hell. Hell is not civil like war. you get what you get.. An out of control fight. may the best man win by any means necessary.
Let's never fool ourselves..
How much war can we take? When does it ever end.?

If you want to know what is going to happen if we strike Syria? ask yourself what would you do.
Leadership is packed with so much responsibility Who really in their right mind would want it?
And when you don't do right by your people; you invite trouble. When there is a land grab by others who want what you have how do you protect yourself?
Another thing; we have seen leaders toppled and themselves publicly murdered and their children. who wants that? I don't know what is going on over there. or whose doing it. Our dysfunctional country and congress is an enigma to me.. How long before the same thing happening over seas will be our collective fate?
These people including the President has a nerve to talk moral anything to us ; when all along the congress and etal has failed to care about funding and investing in America except when it comes to shed blood and invest in the troubles of the world. then when it comes to investing in us, we get insulted and ask to forget everything else and then here they are again asking for more.. All the biggots, liars, racists and selfish.. get so tired of it..
I don't know what the powers that be have done and no speech any president for me is going to change my mind about bombing Syria.
The performance of government in these last years of how they just didn't care about us and how we been here signing pettions and pleading and we didn't matter, saying sacrifice, and not our problem and all of a sudden we got morallty. and how would we look in the worlds eyes.
When did we start to care how we looked in the eyes of the rest of us?

But my guess is; it will happen any way.. I don't know who we think we are saving.. I don't know who and what to believe.. cause I truly don't know who to believe.

You know it is nice to live somewhere that is modernized and built up. It took us decades to for us to get here.
We go overseas and blow things up and destroy things and have to start alllllll over again. We complain how we can't afford anything. People long to come here for what we do have; compared to what they don't have here. What sense of appreciation do any of us have, being a mixed culture of being modernized and not be at war with each other for some reason. To educate collectively out own, we/the powers that be are closing investments ,, no worth.. We don't want to maintain our infra- structions. Which by the way are job opportunities.. Woo woo who knew.

Yet we want to use cruse missiles to tear up some more stuff. Kill some more people..

The powers that be need to tell us the truth. How many times have they wagged the tail/ What about the chemical weapons, they gave to their then bad boy Saddam Hussein to gas iran and the kurds before he became their bad guy and our problems?
And what about this report that says in tis April past of chemical gas being reported used by the opposition, which Kerry ad the main stream media never covering as if it never happened... What about Saudia Arabia wanting to pay the tab for Americans to go it alone and they pay us?. Us to shed our blood and sacrifice.

Now this is the same Saudia Arabia that got out of Dodge during 9-11. The same family that produced Bin Laden the defamed ex- CIA agent now enemy dead no 1? How many more disgruntled ex's are there?

I hope all we americans listen to your hearts and not be fooled again as the pull on your heart strings... Cause we have been lied to so many times and suffered for it... If we all so no t this and they put us in it any way.. that's a signal to say what is really going on here?
Today the fifth of September and whatever they passed last night has stuff slipped into it for us to be more involved than yesterday.. They want us to take over and plant democracy.. Hezzbolah went democratic and no we really don't mean democratic process for everyone.. when we don't like who wins..

We are so confusing.. So... if we plant our democratic flag over there.. do we honestly think we will be welcomed rulers surrounded by people who want to rule themselves? So what does that mean for us? and ours? Will they be the next slaughtered?

.Who is coming to save them?
Sometimes we just don't make sense.

When bombings happen; bullets have no names on it.. Neither do bombs. What about jails and prisons and insane asylums and hospitals and old folks and children's places. Who stops anyone for being raped? All these things happen in war..
We should have never gone into Iraq or taken out kaddafy or any of these people who held these places together.. The shame is ....why didn't these people take care of home instead of not and here we are with death destruction and no peace. Now the lies. YOu old farts need to go on the frontline and give your lives.

And no I just don't believe anything we say cause we our own..
