A so-called "historian," who conservative radio host Glenn Beck has hired to teach at his online university, recently argued that scientists needed a "fear of the Lord" to do their job, and students' test scores would increase if schools had "a daily...

It's so sad when those with the power of the media contribute to ignorance and hate. Those people just make me sick because they damage the people and the nation.

I think he has that backwards. And....aren't we supposed to love god and be gentled by his love? Nah, these people thrive on making others fearful.

I spent 12 years in Catholic school and was never taught to fear God. Not sure where this jerk is coming from but not from a place any sane person would want to go.

I spent 12 years in Catholic schools and although I was taught to fear God, I ended up fearing nuns. Beatings and humiliation occurred on a daily basis. One fact I did learn was that a much greater number of individuals who were educated in Catholic schools (by an order that I probably should not mention) sought professional help in their adult years than those who attended public schools or Catholic schools that were run by other orders.

If Glenn Beck hired David Barton to teach at his university, and David Barton agreed to work for Glenn Beck and be associated with his university, then we know they're both phonies.

Glenn Beck has a university? What money-making venture will he come up with next?

Tests scores will increase once students begin to study properly. The score will increase once the overall attitude toward education will improve. And finally the last, but still the most important: lack of motivation won’t let students study well. I mean why would they spend endless nights working on a case study project (kindly check MYEssayService for more info) for instance when they know that it is almost impossible to find a decent job after graduation and chances are high that no one will require your diploma for the next god knows how many years. Bible will not help here. Bible will not buy you food. Sorry if I am being a little rude

It's pathetic how people like Barton come up with their own brand of "statistics" and "history" to make a case against secular schools. They are entitled to their own interpretation of their bible as far as knowledge and the fear of god is concerned, to to make the unsubstantiated statements about illiteracy, have it's fall and rise as they perceive it connected to some self-serving time line under this fear, is just ridiculous, really. He should be ashamed of calling himself a historian. And Beck should be ashamed of trying to push this drivel down the throat of the Americans in the hope of tearing down the separation of church and state.

Anything related to Beck needs to be taken off the air. I cannot believe that anyone could listen to him or believe anything he says. He just makes me sick to my stomach with all his lies, fear spreading and hate mongering.

I hope his knowledge of history is better than his 'logical arguments'. Probably not though - he most likely teaches that the world is only 4,00 years old!

"Fear of the Lord" was a poor translation even when it was made, and now it is unrecognizable. It was supposed to mean something more like "healthy respect." But even though a correct translation would be less toxic, I doubt it has anything to do with reading.

(Most of the sticks that so-called Christians use to beat people are based on mistranslations. Another case of "I don't think that word means what you think it means.")
