The crowning of Miss New York, Nina Davuluri, as Miss America should have been, to paraphrase her platform, a celebration of diversity through cultural competency. But in the hours after her victory, Twitter became a frank demonstration of American...

"It should go without saying that Davuluri, a Syracuse native of Indian descent, is neither Muslim nor an Arab."

Thanks, Carrie. I'd never have known who one but for you since I don't watch pageants of any kind. But given the kinds of racist tripe I've seen in print from previous events as twits prove they are both racist and twits with their bile, this isn't surprising in the least. America - the great melting pot - hah, racism is as alive and well here now as it was in the early 1800's. Just slightly more hidden. It WILL end here, like it or not, by 2043 this will no longer be a Caucasian dominated nation, people of color will comprise more than 50% of the population. Perhaps Caucasians ought start hoping those folks have bigger, more loving hearts than the racists who dominate the right wing do now or things could get really ugly. Uglier than they are now, I mean.

I saw this on Facebook. I don't pay attention to Miss America stuff, I doubt if I ever watched it on TV, but this morning I saw this gal dance. She is very good, and must have impressed the judges in what ever areas they compete. She is an American, she is a woman, she is attractive, so what's the problem? Most Americans are not blonde and blue eyed, and many have last names that are a jumble of consonants that can barely be pronounced, check the backs of some foot ball jerseys.

Suddenly, the racists come out from under their rocks to use tweeter and show their back sides. Screw them.

Congratulations to the new Miss America Nina Davuluri, an American girl.

The only way humans will survive what Mother Earth will throw at us for not paying attention, is if there is no race. Ok, don't yell at me. My skin doesn't have enough melanin to stand up against the sun Sp 30 baby. It's crazy, people should not care anymore. Have we not learned anything? We all, likely, come from a small group of about 100 people who left Africa and wound up in what is now the Middle East thousands and thousands of years ago. We all have the same origin.

Skin color and concepts of beauty....If we were all blind, what would it matter???

Thanks Carrie. It's infuriating to hear these comments from these bigots, and especially disheartening to know that some have a platform for spreading their hatred and stupidity. And it's particularly disgusting to those of us whose immediate families were not born here. It seems that racism is not only alive and well in the US, but thriving. Sadly, as media bosses continue to allow morons like Todd Starnes to spew hatred and bigotry with impunity, rather than deal with it swiftly and severely, it will probably continue. I don't see how anyone could argue that she is not a very beautiful and intelligent woman...something that not only Americans but anybody would be proud to say is representative of them. I'm stoked that she's from New York!

I don' watch pageants either, but the news on this was is certainly worth sharing ~ as I have been reading it everywhere all day! Such bigotry is unacceptable especially when it is being promoted by a so called "news outlet". More FAUX Noise racial propaganda!

wow, looks like a some Americans are very stupid. There are Muslims in India but she's not Muslim and India isn't an Arab nation. India and most Arab nations are in Asia.

And Fox only hires idiots.

shame to be an American, but its nice to see an Asian American winning the title.

Thanks Carrie for sharing the article

I adore pageants. Ms. Nina Davuluri is lovely and talented. Faux Noose can go choke.

I saw this too on Facebook and was shocked at some of the comments. She is with Al-Qaeda? Oh really? In a bathing suit competition? DUH!

Then again- I grew up near Syracuse. We realize that the US is a melting pot.

And BTW, while this young woman is of Indian descent, I would be very happy to see a Muslim (obviously nto very religious) or an Arab be crowned Miss America some day.

I don't like pageants; esp. when the participants are only 2 or 3 years old. There is nothing wrong with Nina Davuluri, I thought America is a melting pot of nations, isn't it ?

Seems like all it takes to make the trolls from the shallow end of the gene pool come ashore is a beauty pageant. And Faux Noise likes to hire the stupidest ones.

We all know the GOPTP hate minorities of any kind - except the idots they can bamboozle with their blatant lies. Why do you think they're redistricting all of their cut off minority voters. Faux News isn't worth listening to, or reading about. I'll have to see what my mother thinks about having a minority Miss America.

Since this country is known as a "melting pot", I see no problem with any ethnicity being represented.

Okay folks, the bigots out there represent the least educated of America. I mean, these idiots can't figure out the difference between the continent of Africa vs the US State of Hawaii...

Fox News just announced their egregious journalistic nature, hypocrisy and bigotry once and for all.
Problem is, for a large segment of our nation, Fox IS the only news they choose to watch. Thus the racism continues for yet another generation, we can thank those behind Fox News for that.
I am moving to the moon.

I am of Scottish/Irish heritage. I have red hair and ghostly whiter-shade-of-pale translucent skin that glows in the sunlight and scares little kids and animals. Fox News readers do not like people darker than me. That's the issue, pure and simple.
