A Facebook question from a Bismark, North Dakota resident to his congressman started off rockily yesterday, when the congressman dismissed a religious argument opposed to cuts in the federal food stamp program with a religious quote.

Isn't it interesting how they can find whatever they want in the Bible to back them up? And yet, when someone else points out something in the Bible, it doesn't count? As for he who doesn't work not eating.... that would include most of Congress, would it not?

Noted. I am so sick and disgusted by these "fat, dum & happy" members of Congress who continue to rationalize their un-Xtian votes with Bible quotes. Their constituents voted for them to have a platform to speak for the majority; but these numbskulls only listen to the tiny hateful voices in their heads.
Yes, Arielle is absolutely right: check out how many days Congress has actually been in session in the past couple of years, as well as their vacation schedule for the rest of this year. And, Betsy, I think so many will offer their help that it will take no time at all for the construction of your project. Need a hammer or some nails?

Just disgusted with this congressman Carrie.

Arielle - if they don't find the Bible agrees with them, they make it up, then attribute it to Jesus or the Bible.

At least it's on the record that the GOPTP really do Not care about the poor, seniors, the disabled...the children. All the while collecting salaries from taxes paid by the working poor, working seniors, working parents...

Betsy - I'm with you...

To this I say,

Matthew 7:1-2

1: "Judge not, Lest ye be not Judged."

2: "For with what Judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged;
and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."

Luke 3:11

Jesus states, "Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none,
and whoever has food is to do likewise."

I could go on, and on but I am not on this site to Preach.
The deeds are what counts, and that is also mentioned in their Bible.

The very best, Proverbs 14:31

"Whoever oppresses the poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors him.

I have tools.

In my own words,
It seems to me that there are going to be quite a few Republicans going hungry some time in the near future.

Ponder/Meditate/Pray for Peace.

So why is this moron qouting the Old Testament if he's supposedly a Christian? Christ fed the starving masses...and if he's about "do unto others..".he should cut his salary to zero...or we should help him out with that.Nottice how these supposed Christians never quote Christ....He's too socialist for them.

I bet North Dakota is already sorry he was voted to office! Hope they get him out of there too!
That's not how it is to be. If he is so Religious they help people NOT take away food, all churches have food banks and help people. EXCEPT HIM???? I can Remember years ago everyone would fix extra when they cooked and take a dish of food to the neighbors and they would in turn do the same again. This was 50 yrs or so ago and further back even than that all of our Ancester's did this. That is a thing of the past, and now people can't or do not have other's over for a meal. And this guy says 'LET THEM NOT EAT AND STARVE' and he preaches BIBLE WORDS?? DON'T THINK SO!!!

Proverbs 14:31 - “He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”
• Proverbs 22:16 - “He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and he who gives gifts to the rich – both come to poverty.”
• Proverbs 29:7 - “The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.”

From the Christian Scriptures (New Testament) “2 Thessalonians 3:10 English Standard Version (ESV) 10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat,”

"The quote Cramer used in reply to Tengesdal is an admonition against Christians failing to plant seed and harvest food because anticipation of the imminent return of Christ might seemingly make that toil unnecessary."

Just like a Republicanus/Teabagger to take the quote out of context thereby losing its true meaning. To me, it proves they know nothing of the faith they profess to believe in. Hypocrites!! (but then we knew that!)

"...Friday, Cramer [Kevin, R-ND] railed against exemptions to the work requirement for food stamps, arguing that “We can generate $20 billion in savings by ending these waivers while encouraging able-bodied people to work …"

Does this idiot Republicanus/Teabagger, for that matter all Republicanus/Teabaggers, expect children to work? ... the severely disabled to work? ... the elderly to work? ... those working 2 jobs already to support their children to work a third job?

Also interesting that the Republicanus/Teabaggers, these self proclaimed moral authorities of the US, never pay attention to Matthew 25:40 NIV "40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’"

continued to be sickened by these "so called Christians" who pick and choose their theocracy....if the repuglicons hadn't driven the economy over the cliff and actually helped it recover...i.e. job creation....then maybe many of these they complain about would have jobs...........

I came, I read, I noted, I read these replies and I can't think of anything to say because I'd just be repeating all of the above replies.

Noted...thanks Carrie. You know what I rarely hear these Bible thumping Christian do? Quote Jesus Christ (remember That Guy?!!?).Great comments by Mary Oliveau, Roseann and Lynn. These conservatives have no idea who Jesus was or what He stood for. When I was a boy I was taught by the Priests and Nuns who taught me in CCD that it was more important to learn the lessons rather than the specific words (the spirit of a rule is more important than the letter of the law), but the most important words were the ones in red (quotes from Jesus). It seems those are precisely the words/parts of the Bible that some of these conservatives/fundamental Christians either didn't read or didn't understand.

Sounds like he's advocating for the lousy, freeloading, non-working, no-can-do GOP to not eat. That includes himself.
