Fortunately, most cases of salmonella diarrhea don't need antibiotics, but supportive care only....severe illness and immune compromise may require some antibiotic therapy, too....

Think this would be a good time for petitions re: antibiotic resistance from meat. Need to use no antibiotics in animals, especially those used for meat and dairy.

Foster Farms not only salmonella but a lot cruelty to those chickens as well! There have been many exposes on how Foster Farms has little to no welfare standards for its chickens and chickens aren't handled or killed humanely there! Foster Farms are big factory farms there are not only causing drug resistant bacteria and causing many serious infections for many people but are polluting our land, water and air! I think it is high time that people start switching to diets that are not only healthy but more eco-friendly such as vegetarian and vegan diets!

Thanks Carrie. Food Inspection services are critical to public health. BTW, vegans and vegetarians, you are not off the hook just because you don't eat meat. Salmonella and other nasties can grow on veggies and in things like peanut butter too. Many people think that government is too big, but this is a good reason to pay government workers to ensure produce and meats are safe.

I'm so sorry that all of these chickens were abused by living in deplorable conditions, were unbelievably terrified and were slaughtered (in great pain) for nothing. Poor, innocent creatures. Of course, people will continue to do these same things for (God knows, how long). "Why", you might ask. I hear that chicken is "finger lickin" good". I hope they all have health care since, apparently, you never know.

Sure makes me think twice about eating chicken. I wiah they'd have a safe way to kill and prevemt Salmonella. It wasn't that long ago that they were warning about it on spinach and other vegetable and fruits. Thanks Carriell
