This "Judge" has zero compassion, besides totally disregarding tons of other major issues concerning slaughter!!!! I am shocked & appalled and quite frankly ANGRY & DISGUSTED!!! This is NOT the direction expected nor should this be accepted as the "Final Answer!!!" Thank you Carrie, for this share=I pray more updates & HOPE will be forthcoming~~~

Don't know what is worse, slaughter for food or watch them die of starvation in the fields around the country. Would be nice to save them all but people have no concept of the amount of food and range it takes to keep even one horse. Those that yell the loudest seem to help the least.

Makes me weep. Unless there is a miracle, I fear we have lost the battle against horse slaughter in New Mexico.

How many lobbist groups were involved in this? How deep was the political payback this administration had to go?
This is disgusting on a political, moral and ethical level- and it all comes back to this administration.

Why are we paying for USDA meat inspectors for this when they've been cut for conventional meats under Sequestration??? If they have meat inspectors to spare, they should be back to inspecting conventional meat.

Go to Attorney General King's Facebook page and let him know how you feel. The more people that voice their opposition the more chances this can be stalled. Anything to save these horses from slaughter.

Thank God finally a judge with a brain. It is not illegal to eat horse meat any where in the USA. It was illegal under Federal law to slaughter them for 4 years and some states still make it illegal to sell them for slaughter or sell the meat but you can eat horse meat. All the romantic bullshit aside, two points must be made. First horses were hunted as food animals by humans until they were eventually domesticated as livestock, farm animals when they joined chickens, pigs, cows, oxen on the menu. The Romantic Icon of the "American Horse", is a lie. The horse was not, is not, native to any of the Americas, but exists as an alien species, just like pythons, anacondas, nutria, cane toads, fire ants, et alia, gone wild after introduction by the Spanish in 14 and 15 Hundreds. The largest draft animal used by Native Americans was the dog or themselves. The "Pet Status" of horses is recent. California did not make the sale or transfer of horses for slaughter a Misdemeanor until 1998, the Federal Ban on Horse Slaughter for meat which went into effect in 2008 was repealed on November 18, 2011 by the Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2012. And if you look at the lunatic laws banning horse slaughter for meat you will find that they are based on the totally wrong labeling of horse meat as unfit/unsafe for human consumption. There is also the fact that horses like all Alien species kill off native wild animals, particularly since humans feed them through the winter. And with human help horses over populate in an average year by more than 500,000 ( given a 5-10% fertility rate on the estimated 6.9 million) so each year more and more of them starve to death.

I will fight this. I will fight to stop live export over our borders also. We must stop throwing away God's animal friends and make people take responsibility for the animals they have in their care.

People all over this planet simply must stop eating all sentient beings now. ALL BEINGS are BEAUTIFUL and expression of the Creation and are sacred and are born with the right to total FREEDOM according to NATURE.

Lloyd H. Hey brainless! This is a North American rejection of what other countries eat. We do not have to support or supply horses for them to eat. For example, because one society eats other people do we supply them with people to eat? I sure as hell would hope we would not. But then again, Big Business would profit from the homeless wouldn't they? Fatten them up and then eat them. Just like the wicked witch would with lost children.
This is just a mythical story but it should teach a lesson.

Looks like in the US companies get away with murder with their paid judges and politicians, and like Monsanto GMO horse meat will not be labelled as such. How corrupt has the US of A become, it is not a Democracy anymore, not a dream country as it was. It has become a Dictatorship ruled by big business and corrupt politicians and a corrupt legal system. The USA are virtually dragged down to help China to be #1 by ruthless greedy morons and her people will go hungry, hence the end of another ruler going down the drain. The end of an era.
As for a few billionaires that have fleeced the USA to death, well, David has beaten Goliath.

First let us condemn those who create a demand. Horse lovers especially need to unite to intensely promote the idea that horses are not consumables but rather companions. Those of us who are vegans and use no animal products decry the addition of yet another animal sentenced to the horrors of food production and processing torture chambers. More evidence of the soul coldness of many humans who will eat anything, compassion be damned.

Lloyd H guy wicked ruthless heartless subhuman. These animals are also another living being just like you. The way you love your life they too love their own lives. Any living creature on the planet earth is there for a purpose of their own. No one has the right to take another living beings life or rather to kill/butcher/murder what ever the term it may be. Try to be kind hearted compassionate human being. It will show the caliber you belong into.!!!

I wonder why in the USA you people have such unkind evil hearted so called Judges to rule & give the wrong judgements as the 'justice' to the public. Choose the people who have a heart & will listen to the public demands & not the stubborn & arrogant ruthless people as country's judges.

I have read all the comments and some are really questionable. First all Europeans eat horse meat and how about bison? The big problem is their are too many and starving. If we spent our money wisely their would be birth control and then we would have our wild horses. But Congress does nothing right except for themselves. Also they get in the way for fracking which is disgusting. Millions of gallons of water used. As I said Congress is way off. We should have better control and Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society should be listened to. If you want to stop this then fight for it. Start a petition and do a parade against the inhumanity of slaughter. Control the herd. I love the memories of John Wayne and the wild west and we could do this again. Birth control is the answer.

U.S. District Judge Christina Armijo of New Mexico, there are no words I can use to describe what I feel about her here. I shared the article, but if large number of people who are filing law suits can be dismissed, seems not a lot of hope there, only chance is that appeals were filed.

Thomas M. (7)

This is a legal issue and will be dealt with in the courts. The Appeals court now gets the case and the decision could be reversed. If not, it may go to the Supreme Court - if they take the case.

Who in America goes to a restaurant and orders a dinner plate of horse? Nobody I know has ever even
contemplated dining on a horse. Even with legal slaughter houses, few Americans are going to dine on
horse. It isn't culturally appropriate to eat a companion animal. The entire argument of rounding up wild horses
because of the land damage they do is absurd. Companion horses are difficult to slaughter for meat because they have too many antibiotics in them. All the horse meat is going to Europe because horse meat is acceptable in several countries such as France, Germany and Spain that I know of. So the only way to cultivate the international horse meat business is to round up the wild horses for slaughter to satisfy European
dining. Wild horses do not have antibiotics in their systems--Someone is making a lot of money trafficking these beautiful animals. I personally feel very grieved over the cruelty and monetary manipulation bestowed on both the American people and the species of the American wild horse. I suppose if the price of horse meat
is feasible, horse farms will be established to birth and mature horses for slaughter. Maybe we'll see commercials on horse meat featuring it as the new "beef"? Our government representatives are probably
paid off for allowing this as I suspect the judge in this article was. Maybe by the time all the wild horses are
rounded up and butchered, these farms will be ready to keep the horse meat flowing. I'm disgusted with
these unethical acts and insults on the citizens of this country as they rape the landscape of our wild lands.
