I'm sure Tom DeLay knows for sure - he was probably right there by God's side, helping Him put in all the important stuff. Amazing how the GOP just throw in "Jesus" or "God" any time they feel threatened and they are immediately forgiven for being complete buttholes all the rest of the time.

WOW! Does that mean he believes we need to actually be GOVERNED according to the Constitution??/

It's a MIRACLE folks! - Especially if he somehow manages to ACT on that belief - - -

And he was there when God wrote it, was he? Ad he probably gave him some tips on it too. I think we all owe him an apology for forgetting that. Oh, and one to God, of course, but He only played secretary and wrote it in that fine hand of His.

Sure, God wrote the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, and He put that stuff in about separation of church and state so His people wouldn't make idiots of themselves trying to control everyone else in His name. Too bad it didn't work. That's free will for you.

I am not surprised; DeLay is another right wing radical loon.

When teabaggers cannot defend one of their own they find a way to point the finger at The President!

Tom Delay needs to just go back to his jail cell. The crook can't tell the truth about anything, just like the rest of the republi/Tbaggers out there. No truth has escaped their mouths yet. The hypocrites.

Isn't it funny Diane O how you're always grousing on anyone who dares to go off topic and yet here you are doing that very thing. 'What does Obama have to do with this? and since you brought it up, I wish everyone had been allowed to keep their coverage and could see how their sub standard coverage compared to the better and cheaper coverage everyone else was getting under the ACA. If they didn't mind being dumped from it when they got a serious illness, then why should the rest of us care? If they didn't mind that it only covered a small percentage of a major bill and they would have to pay the rest, then why should the rest of us care?
Carrie, if you had done this, she would have been all over you and if you were in her sacred group, you would have been kicked out. Just goes to show how arrogant some people can be...typical Republican control freak......do as I say, not as I do.

Tom DeLay a man whose face is held on entirely by the strings of his funders and was reprimanded twice by the US House Ethics Committee for corruption and then being found guilty of money laundering and conspiracy and in any decent society he would be in prison. It might be a bit of a shock but the constitution wasn't written by God as his name is not one of the signatories, so he was talking bollocks and really should shut up.

Mr. Delay, as well as the rest of the GOP is "out to lunch"!!!!

Theodore Shayne (56)
Saturday February 22, 2014, 1:12 pm
Say what? Most of the founding fathers were of the deist bent and not that religious. Religion needs to get dumped in the landfill and a code of conduct that reflects the higher morals and ethics involved in modern life instilled immediately. There is no such thing as god. In dog I trust and I'm really Sirius about that.

Gene Jacobson (256)
Saturday February 22, 2014, 1:15 pm
What people should remember is why Tom DeLay left Congress, yes his criminal sentence was overturned on a technicality, but still, technically, he did it. He is just another crooked politician and what he has to say about anything is immediately suspect. He should read that document he claims God wrote, along with the bible 6000 years ago, and wonder why God put in the First Amendment. That amendment is why we can NEVER be other than a secular government. Leave religion to your private life, it has no place in government. Our founding fathers knew that, but apparently Tom isn't convinced. I don't care what he thinks, nor should anyone else.

Tom DeLay a few cards short of a full deck. If GOD had written the constitution it would have been carved in stone and handed down to Washington from the top of mount Rushmore by a burning bush. Instead we have the first amendment. Why is it the first? Because our founding fathers thought it was the most important. Jefferson writes: "Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church and State."

Dianna M. (16)
Saturday February 22, 2014, 3:16 pm
Sooooo, GOD wrote the Constitution, huh? Then that bit about the postal services must have been God's work, too. YOU know, Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution, known as the Postal Clause or the Postal Power, empowers Congress "To establish Post Offices and post Roads". Since it's God's Word, I guess you and your cohorts will be working to repeal that UNCONSTITUTIONAL 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA), right? If not, then you're all guilty of violating God's Law and you'll all end up in Hell.

Tom Delay " I pray every day for an awakening in this country,” he said, adding that people should get involved."

“Join a group, a tea party or whatever.” Yes another wacko in the Rep party - it is getting to be very laughable thinking who is coming up with the next ridiculous statement. "God wrote the Constitution" !!!
Thanks Carrie.

Odd, isn't it? This is NOT "The United States of Christ."

And notice that it's NOT illegal to say "Goddammit," work on Sunday, sass your mother or covet your neighbor's ass

I thought Tom Delay WAS in prison! (Speaking of ''asses''.......)

"The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe with blood for centuries." ~ James Madison

Tom DeLay is none too smart. Look at this page about quotes from some founding fathers and others on religion like "A lighthouse provides greater guidance than religion." ~ Benjamin Franklin or "I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology." ~ Thomas Jefferson. Seems they are not big proponents of religion in government. DeLay really needs to take an accredited course in American history, not American myths.
I am a Christian, however I do not believe in religion in government because it automatically leads to discrimination of peoples not apart of that religion.
Good thing that DeLay left government. Now, how do we get him to shut his mouth?

Mr DeLay has lost touch with reality. The Constitution was written to keep government & religion separate. I think that he needs a history lesson and a religious one so he will know the difference. If God wrote the Constitution why are we fight to wipe Him out.

Right wing idiots should not be watched nor quoted. They crave attention - good or bad. They make outrageous statements to gain more power and control from the uninformed and brainwashed poor souls who believe their lies - not knowing they're being taken for a ride.

Thanks Carrie for the link to the article by Mr. Edwards and video from RightWingWatch.org.
"He attended Baylor University for two years, majoring in pre-MED, but was expelled for drinking and painting Baylor school colors on a building at the rival Texas A&M University. The Washington Post reported that DeLay obtained student deferments from military service while in college and that he received a high draft lottery number in 1969 which ensured that he would not be drafted for the Vietnam War. DeLay graduated from the University of Houston in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology" (which I find laughable). Read, viewed and noted.

I pray every day for an awakening to Mr Delay, that the sheeple who keep voting against themselves by electing freaks like you into office. Wake up people! Hate to tell him this, but "God" didn't really write the bible either... but like a lot of interpreters of the "Holy Book", Delay wants to rewrite the constitution, and history as well.

Lying spares no political party.

"If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor" ~ Obama

"I did not have relations with THAT woman! ~ Impeached President Clinton for lying under oath.

There are those who have radical religious beliefs ~ none of them have ever been elected POTUS and never will.

You might want to put up a thread on Anthony Weiner and John Edwards. I would be willing to comment on those threads. : )

Tom DeLay is a criminal and member of the American Taliban Division of Lies. Message to Mr. DeLay: God did not write the Constitution. You represent all of the reasons our forefathers choose to have a secular government. A Christian he is NOT.

Lloyd H. (46)
Sunday February 23, 2014, 8:36 am
Dear Tom DeLay; too bad that "God" did not write the Bible OT or NT, Men did. And since then the number of times that Men have for their own politically expedient reasons have edited, reedited, censored, and retranslated that collection of stories is nearly beyond count. Each and every denomination/sect from the beginning of the Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition reads a different Bible, evidently written by a Different God of their choosing. And when they are done reading and believing and having absolute faith in their own version of the That Book, they then condemn all other chosen beliefs to hell and seek to exterminate them, often with great success, there is a list nearly a city block long of Christian sects exterminated by the Men who have led the Christian Church since the conversion of Constantine gave them the Political power to do so. Please 'sir' the next time you plan on pulling your head from your ass to pontificate, please leave it where it is. The Constitution of the United States of America specifically prohibits Religious tests for those holding office and specifically bans the Establishment of a State Religion OR the free exercise thereof, which contrary to you and your ilk's delusion does not mean the freedom of Your Chosen Religion to the exclusion of all others.

Hardly a "troll." I've been a member of Care 2 longer than you have, pal. Ridiculous to state that I'm paid by the Koch brothers to post here. Should I dumb down and say that you are paid by George Soros to post here? Silly boys.

Please show where only the republicans lie. This should be interesting. One of your presidents was impeached for lying under oath. Ouch!!

Laura H. (903)
Sunday February 23, 2014, 11:45 am
It does not matter how long one has been a member of Care2...that has 'nothing to do with anything..'

A "troll" is..."In internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off topic messages in an online community, either accidentally or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response".

You really need to ask yourself why you are called a troll...over and over by several different people.
Care2 is a progressive site and yes, all have the right to be here. But when your message is the polar opposite on almost every issue AND you 'troll you should not be surprised at the responses you receive.

You did it again AND proved my point...you brought up George Soros. False equivalence...he is NOTHING like The Koch brothers and you know that!

Lloyd H. (46)
Sunday February 23, 2014, 12:18 pm
Diane O. is not a troll rather a silly trollette, as she just parrots the spurious talking points from the Repug/Tea Bagged alternate reality. Diane, impeached but not convicted and it cost Newt Gingrich his Speakership. And Dear lying Diane the only reason the consummate liar Richard M Nixon was not impeached and convicted was that he resigned. And you Diane O parrot of liars, let us now discuss the LIES OF G W BUSH, just the lies for the Iraq war killed 4,486 and counting American Service members and at least 12,000 collateral civilian deaths, NOW add to that the direct addition of $6 Trillion in cost added directly to the US Debt. And by the by the Obama Administration is still protecting Bush and Cheney from International Arrest and Prosecution for War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity. So get back into your gilded cage and stuff a tea bag into your mouth.

Diane is either an inveterate liar or an ignorant stooge. She is the very definition of a troll, but I don't think she's a paid one. However the right wing actually does have paid trolls. She just seems to be one of the ideologues who post nonsense.

Dunno if this is serious or a spoof from the Onion or some other such place, but regardless, it's probably pretty close to the truth either way. These people are cray-cray.

Diane O. (167)
Sunday February 23, 2014, 12:52 pm
Know this, Laura, and I'll be clear. I am not a liberal. My vision for my country is very different from most here on Care 2. When you and others comment on a "public forum" you open yourselves up to those of us who do not agree with you. If you find that you are unable to cope with that then I suggest you open your own political group on Care 2 and invite only those who think like you. You don't have that power here on a public forum.

Lloyd, I'm well aware of Nixon, Bush and every other president we've had in our country. All had their strong and weak points and all were not good for the country. So, I don't need a history lesson. Bottom line...Clinton was impeached for lying. You are correct that he was not convicted. He was impeached. It is a part of history and it is a fact. You can't change that fact. You might want to dance around it but you can never erase it from history.

Every president has blood on his hands even Obama. I don't support war of any kind but I do support fighting terrorism in our country. Terrorists murdered over 3,000 innocent people on 9/11. Our country had to respond to that.

George W. Bush and Dick Cheney weren't charged with war crimes because there wasn't evidence to support it. You can continue to sing that old song if it makes you feel better but the fact is that there is no evidence to support it.

However, if you want to get technical on the number of soldiers that were killed under George W. Bush then please let us do our due diligence and state that President John F. Kennedy, a democrat, sent special forces advisors to Viet Nam. Next, President Lyndon Johnson, a democrat, enhanced the Viet Nam War and 58,196 American soldiers died and many came home wounded. So, you can place blame on President Bush, a Republican, for the death of 4,486 soldiers. While you are into the blame game on the wars make certain you tell how many died under President Lyndon B. Johnson's presidency.

Perhaps you would like to discuss Obama adding over $7 trillion to our country's debt since he took office. Bush added $4.9 trillion. Obama has almost three years to go in office. Still...no jobs for the American people but plenty of food stamps to go around.

The good news is that Obama's popularity rating is in a deep dark hole. Americans are awake now.

typo: I failed to mention that Tom DeLay is, indeed, a horse's butt. Now I'm back on topic. Personally, I don't feel this man is important to anything. He has his freedom of speech to say whatever he wants to say. He seems a bit over the top right now. : )

I wasn't aware the MEN who wrote the Constitutation were God!!! Delay is just as cracked in the head as Michelle Bachmann who said, the Bible is proof God loves America more, because he wrote it in English...It does no good to argue with certain people, they are either blind, ignorant, or both...They refuse to listen to facts, or they make up their own to back up their ridiculous arguments...I've learned a long time ago, you can't argue or debate with a fool or an idiot...

Lloyd H. (46)
Sunday February 23, 2014, 9:04 pm
Diane, since you love to split semantic hairs and are evidently as ignorant of the US Constitution as most of the Repug/Tea Bagged a few facts are in order. Impeachment of the President of the USA by the US House requires only a simple majority, 50% plus one vote, and Impeachment is simply an indication that the President has been investigated and is being charged. It is an indictment, that includes a presumption of innocence as with all American trials, that leads to the actual trial to determine guilt or innocence before the US Senate with the Chief Justice of SCOTUS as presiding judge, acquittal is a not guilty verdict. As to your BS about Bush/Cheney the USA, under the Obama Admin. refused to comply with all subpoenas and exercised political pressure to stop the proceedings, but make no mistake there are International Arrest warrants out for Bush, Cheney and I do believe Rumsfeld and some others. Remember the only reason the Bush was not arrested on his trip to Canada was protection from the Canadian government in violation of several treaties to which it is signatory. If you have not noticed Bush and Cheney have not left American soil except for that on trip by Bush to Canada because they know they can be arrested. As for Viet Nam nice try but no cigar. American troops began fighting in Viet Nam under Republican President Eisenhower in 1955, when he became the first president to begin espouse the "domino theory", Kennedy inherited Viet Nam from Eisenhower. As for the Repug Debt lie, read the January 31, 2012 WAPO article by Ezra Klein, the actual Obama addition to the Debt for Policies he has signed is just $983 Billion. Bush increased the Debt by 86%, two wars, massive tax cuts for the rich, Medicare Part D all unpaid for and put directly onto the American Credit Card.

Sunday February 23, 2014, 10:34 pm
Carrie, I know but even when one knows that swatting at a mosquito whining around your head as you lay in bed is mostly futile, you still have to try. Then there is the point that lies that are not called lies replace the truth. A dandelion is nearly impossible to eliminate but if you simply prevent it from going to seed it can not spread. Diane is a weed and has a right to be a weed but you do not have to let the lies and misinformation she floats on the air take root. Perhaps you should just consider me a gardener that controls the propagation of weeds that he can when he can, a service to the public at large to prevent infestation.

Is it time for a new Church Committee?

It's time for a new Church Committee. Earlier this month, Glenn Greenwald revealed details of how GCHQ (the British equivalent of the NSA) had a special "dirty tricks" intelligence gathering group known as the Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group. This week - Greenwald released more details on the group over at The Intercept, his new media venture.

The newly released details include a top-secret GCHQ presentation that sheds light on how the group, cooperating with the NSA, would go after, infiltrate, and in some cases ruin the reputations of, specific groups or individuals online.

And we're not just talking about terrorist masterminds here.

According to Greenwald, "Among the core self-identified purposes of JTRIG are two tactics: (1) to inject all sorts of false material onto the internet in order to destroy the reputation of its targets; and (2) to use social sciences and other techniques to manipulate online discourse and activism to generate outcomes it considers desirable."
