Very low levels of radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster likely will reach ocean waters along the U.S. West Coast next month, scientists are reporting.

There have been just too many lies and distractions about this. I don't know what is really factual.

I read something where some effects of it are already showing up there so I think we need more information about this.

No, Kit B. -- you'd better believe it: the radiation problems have been grossly UNDER-reported.

Do our governments care or even tell us the real truth? I don't think so.

Noted. This is the catastrophe that just keeps on giving. I've completely sworn off eating any fish. It sure would be nice if the federal gov't would start measuring the radiation....are they afraid of something?

The David Suzuki Foundation is the point group for two sampling sites, on Haida Gwaii and at Bamfield on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Data will be published at How Radioactive Is Our Ocean? (, and will include an evolving map showing cesium concentrations with links to information about radioactivity in the ocean and what the levels mean. Scientists now have groups of people taking samples that they test. Some say that the radiation may enter the Pacific Gyre Garbage Patch, so I imagine there will be tests there. The map is interesting to keep track off studies being done.
Thanks Carrie. (David Suzuki is a Canadian Scientist).
