Ted Cruz: Christians Shouldn't Be Required to Do Business With Gay People (TEXT and VIDEO)

- 1414 days ago -
The Tea Party favorite said Christians should not be forced to sell wedding cakes to same-sex couples or photograph their marriage ceremonies, although he personally had no problem doing so -- although conceded he was a terrible cook.

And, I shouldn't be required to do business with slimeballs like Ted Cruz.

For anyone thinking that they shouldn't be required to do business with gay people, I have one thing to say to you. GROW UP. Money is money.

You aren't just rejecting gay customers. You are rejecting ALL their families and friends. Since support for marriage equality is over 50%, that's quite a big market to risk offending. Your business must be doing extremely well that you can afford to spurn half of America.

But hey, they have the right to be stupid. And, I have the right not to give them one cent of my money. How much you wanna bet their "beliefs" will change once they start losing major cash?

PS: This is to ANYONE that doesn't want to do business with gay people. It's not aimed at a specific religion.

Sure Ted. Can they also discriminate against blacks, or Jews, or Asians, or native Americans, or biracial couples, or people who are living together without benefit of wedlock, or teenagers, or people they just don't like the looks of, such as those with long hair or tattoos or piercings or ride a motorcycle, or are disabled, or...or....? Do they get to question their customers about their beliefs to make sure they agree with their own? Do they get to question their customers about who they voted for in the last election? If you allow a business that is open to the public to discriminate one group of people, you have to allow them to discriminate anyone. In other words, to heck with equal right, huh?

And we shouldn't have to hear Ted Cruz spew his religious bullshit constantly either.

I doubt seriously anyone wants to do business with a company that obviously doesn't want to do business with them. People are just funny that way.

So, I'd say that if a business is so dead set against doing business with the LGBT community, then a little sign in the window or a note on their regular TV or radio ads ought to do it. If someone still chooses to do business there, then they do so at their own risk. I have a feeling though that the business might find they have no business to speak of anymore.

They used religion to try and prevent interracial marriages. The bigotry that some think religion promotes is a bane to society. You would think in the 21st century we would have gone past these petty bigoted views. But apparently, some religious organizations are happy to propagate this sort of thing.

Ted Cruz I trust gay people far more than you. What sexual orientation a person is born with has nothing to do with their worth as people. Ted, your anti environment, anti people mind is the really problem with this country and the world. Stop caring about what people are doing in their bedrooms and care more about saving the planet.

He really makes ordinary people despair of the lack of intelligence and compassion in those in power, he really does - people who are gay have not chosen their sexual orientation - does he think they are masochists who like the amount of drek he and his kind aim at them?! Of course not! Try for a little compassion and humanity, please!

AniMae is right, Roger nailed it, as have so many others.
I am reading a new biography of Hitler, and see that Teddy would be right at home in a Nazi uniform!
Terri, make room for me, on that desk!
Pres. Eisenhower was surprised to hear that half of the U.S. population had a below average intelligence (duh!), but this guy, and his like, must be somewhere, as the old saying goes, "Lower than whale shit!"

Ted Cruz - what a sad and pathetic person he is. I really think that anyone who shares his point of view needs to take a trip with Cruz to a far away distant land, Never Never Land comes to mind, and live there with each other so they can spew their hate and distaste to each other and not contaminate the rest of the world. How disgusting and despicable is his behavior? It's off the charts. I doubt he is redeemable in any way. What a waste of a life.

Winn Adams (179)
Thursday May 8, 2014, 7:24 am
How would Cruz like it if people boycotted businesses that had Christian owners or staff that were Christian? That idea is just as crazy as he is. It's hard not to be angry or defensive with so called "Christians" when their behavior is so awful. That's why I think believing in ANY religion just separates people instead of bringing them together for healthy and positive purposes.

I think Ted Cruz secretly wants to do "business" with gay people. We have seen this before with loud-spoken homophobic types suddenly caught in a known gay hangout tapping their feet on the bathroom floor.

Lona G (84)
Thursday May 8, 2014, 8:44 am
Well, you have to hand it to Cruz, but he learned something since AZ. It took him all this time, but he thinks he's got it worked out now. You tell your Christian sheeple that it is OK for them to discriminate against gay people and then say that you have no problem with doing business with them yourself. Implying it isn't discriminatory what you've just said, of course.
Nice trick, Cruz, except it's still discrimination you're preaching. Try pull the other one.

Louise D (44)
Thursday May 8, 2014, 2:04 pm
I wonder how Ted Cruz can function in the real world, this is an attitude you see in children and not particularly sophisticated children. The fact that he is a Senator sucks for the American people, because well, he sucks. According to Cruz, because Jesus preached love and tolerance, Christian business owners should have the right to discriminate against the LGBT community because they think the Bible tells them to. At least he has shown he is consistent when he didn't understand the moral of Green eggs and ham, he obviously doesn't understand Christianity either. I suspect he may misunderstand Newton's laws of Gravity one day which should be interesting.

cathie S (154)
Thursday May 8, 2014, 5:05 pm
I understand that it is their business and they make the rules but what I don't understand is WHY. Why does it matter if the person is gay or not. I am a Christian and no where in my bible does it say that we are to judge anyone. It does say that we should love and not judge. I really fee sorry for some people. This next part is for @ Gene Jacobson I think we really should STOP with all the Republican hater

Cathie-PLEASE tell us, here on a progressive site, how "Obama has really f$%ked up our country:"- please give specific examples. We are very opened minded here and are eager to learn. We deal in facts and the truth,
Thank you,

Mitchell D (104)
Thursday May 8, 2014, 6:50 pm
@Gene: You rock!
Sorry, Cathie, but the GOP folk are the ones in the way of anything but their agenda for taking still more money from the rest of us.
Boehner will spend however much money (taxpayer money) fighting Obama Care, and, now push his faux Benghazi the hpoe that it will hurt Hillary, should she run for president.
The GOP folk will kiss up to the NRA, to the Koch boys, will make believe Faux News is "Fair and Balanced," and deny climate change, until the ocean backs up the Potomac River right into DC.
