In a weekly series we're calling ThrowbackTexas, Jon Stewart gives you a great primer on exactly how partisan, revisionist and petty the Texas SBOE can be. Watch the video, add your name in support of honest, accurate history textbooks for Texas schools.

Well, Jon is brilliant as always. That board? Not so much. Pity Texas and its children with fools like that in control of what textbooks they read. Fortunately, I hope, they have no say over what is in Texas public libraries or available for purchase in the state of Texas from other, more enlightened, sources.

Sorry Carrie, I attempted to sign several times but each time I hit the submit button it did absolutely nothing. I'll try again later.

Signed and noted. Thanks, Carrie. Jon is brilliant and funny, a winning combo! How did these jokers come to be in charge of textbooks, anyway? Don't think they have the smarts to read stories to preschoolers...

THANK YOU FOR SIGNING THE PETITION. Thanks Cal for posting. This is something I've been well aware of and have also brought up on C2 from time to time. I don't think people realize how critical the smaller elected positions are in this Country that have great impact upon us. This is NOT a balance board and their "views" no matter how warped they are impact on what is going into textbooks throughout this Country. This is dangerous for the future of our Country. We can either lead in enlightened knowledge or we can continue to decline or lead in ignorance.

Sorry, John Steward's videos are truly blocked for anyone outside the US. I would have liked to know more, but from what I've seen elsewhere it is one (or rather another one) of the sneakiest and creepiest attempts of control children's minds, and should not be allowed to happen.

Dandelion, and Lona, are correct. I could not see the video, but can clearly recall the SBOE's idiocy from a few years ago.
Sadly, the board, because it virtually tells publishers what it wants to see n the text books it orders, in vast numbers, has leverage on what Texas, and the rest of the country teach.
McGraw-Hill, with offices, and campuses, in New Jersey is one of the comp's they can impact.
I believe that they wanted to put creationism into science, and other books, tout Joe McCarthy as a cultural hero.
A sad state of affairs.

This is why a free and unregulated internet is SO important. Warped views can now easily be countered, instantly, with just a small phone and Google
