If Repugnantcans really are behind this, it goes to show that they are a) unscrupulous and b) desperate. Reason (a) is why we should not vote for them. Reason (b) may be good news, because if the GO(of)P feel so vulnerable that they must resort to Gestapo tactics to stop a voter registration drive, it could mean that they know their goose is cooked.

Let's cook lots of Elephant this November!

Pathetic that that's what the GOP must resort to to win. Not worthy to serve. If that's how they scampaign...just imagine what the louses have in store if they govern.

Have Holder file federal charges against them for suppressing the right to vote and make it a big news splash even if the media will not touch it.

Did you read the article linked to from the article you submitted Carrie, probably not, it seems many people don't even read the article you submitted. It says"

The investigation appeared to focus on whether there had been a violation of a law aimed at punishing those who steal other peopleís identities in order to rip them off.

Croswell said a Houston Votes employee had told her that scanned copies of voter registration applications were given to Lewis and several of them didnít have personal information redacted.

That, Croswell said, was a felony violation of the Penal Code."

You'll never know what you will find.

Epidemic or even endemic voter fraud has always been the standard excuse for Republicans to push their voter-suppressing laws through and now apparently to physically raid and destroy records and office equipment while no arrests were made. Shudder: raiding with guns in hand and destroying property without evidence is too reminiscent of the 1930s. It's all too obvious that the people in Texas have no recollection of these events - because they happened elsewhere - otherwise they would recognise what is going on: If the GOP/TP can't win fairly then they resort to suppression and intimidation. One day soon the tables will turn on them as it did on Das dritte Reich.

Noted with gritted teeth. Thanks, Carrie. If there was anything suspicious going on with this voter registration drive, (and that's a pretty big if), there are ways to investigate without resorting to intimidation tactics. A squad of heavily-armed, jack-booted thugs? Give me an effing break! Hope this travesty is seriously investigated by the Justice Department! Sheesh!

Well, if we can't win fairly, let's cheat, lie, use excessive force, intimidate - whatever it takes. Big bullies who will eventually fall down HARD....

Um, John, if you believe that was really the purpose to this investigation, I have a lot of swamp land... er, um, good development land for sale cheap....

From the article "Despite no arrests being made, Houston Votes was done. Funding had dried up, and its records and office equipment was destroyed, per order of Attorney General Abbott." What the heck?! Their records (which proved their innocence/ could establish truth) were destroyed by order of the Attorney General!!! Good grief!

Purely co-incidentally of course, he is now standing as the GOP candidate for governor in Texas.

Thank God for Wendy Davis!

These strong arm tactics by the GOP sound a lot like the tactics of the Brown Shirts in Nazi Germany during the 1930s.

Now y'all know I am not crazy, Texas IS a FASCIST state. Dawg, I truly hope that we can get Wendy in and a lot of the TX legislature out this November. Abbott is worse than Herr Perry....and that isn't saying much.

Well I see we've found another way to use our new militarized law enforcement. Welcome to Fascist Amerika.

Gosh what is it with these similar names got all kinds of Fascist Scott's running around now Abbott. There is an Abbott just elected in Australia that is throwing their great Country into a tailspin, seems he learned the playbook well from our Greedy Heartless Ones over here.

Democracy......that is only for those who can BUY it. Like the Bill of Rights wasn't that the document Bush said about it only being a gosh darn piece of paper anyways or was it the Declaration of Independence. Well matters not to this bunch, rules, documents, laws, those are for "other" people.....not for the GOP or the likes of Corporation People.

Robert, that was, precisely, Lona's point!
With MUCH luck this will tip the scales in Wendy's favor.

I am afraid that the Feds have no jurisdiction in state voting registration campaigns, please let me be wrong about that!

No arrests were made. Hmm, no wrong doing was found then. This was nothing more than a scare tactic to deter minority voters from registering.

Noted and shared. Asshole republicans know there's no way in hell they can win an election for anything unless they lie, cheat, steal and send in armed thugs. They are a disgrace to the country and all that they "supposedly" hold dear.

My questions to any republicans out there, if there still are any; is this how you want to live? Is this the America you believe in? Seriously? Open your damn eyes and see what's going on before it's too damn late.

Sheryl G (360)

Indeed Susan, as I've said before, this Republican Party is NOT what your parents and grandparents voted for. Too many just say, well Grandpa was a Republican, my parents were Republicans.....and fail to see that things in fact change.

Mitt Romney's Father helped to push the Food Stamp program in and felt it was vitally his son, also a Republican feeling the same way on matters. No.

So I agree, people need to as you say, open their eyes and begin to see what truly is going on.

And you hit that nail on the head Edith.......

From the article:

"In Texas, a paltry 51 people have been convicted of voter fraud in the last decade, with only four related to in-person voter fraud, which is the only type of fraud voter I.D. laws would stop. Nationwide, between 2002 and 2005, 40 voters were indicted for voter fraud, out of 197 million cast. 26 of those cases, or .00000013 of total votes cast in that period, resulted in guilty pleas or convictions."

Sounds like a good reason to trot out the Gestapo to me. Ridiculous! Thanks Carrie and Dandelion.
