AniMae Thank you so very much for posting this I know this is a piece of history that needs to be put back where it belongs. Artifacts such as these should never be removed, it is disrespectful to the country which they come from just to be taken and displayed in another part of the world without permission from the country from which they came. It would be like a some one coming into your home and taking just a small thing and not telling you. Not right. I do hope that the artifacts are returned to their rightful place.

Under international law, all stolen goods must be returned to their rightful owners.

I wonder if this applies to all the Inca gold that Spaniards stole and equip their cathedrals with???

Signing gave me great pleasure. When I lived in London, I worked for the British Museum. I had a group of tourists from Iraq. I was overhead when I told them to come let me show you what the English have stolen from your country. I was fired. Did not belong in that setting anyway.

Signed and noted 805 more signatures. Marbles they were larger than a bowling ball. Destruction seems to be the way of the world these days sad but true. We just had some hellions destroy a whole mass of grave stones dated back to 1800's things that can't be replaced, they even pryed off pictures on the stones, just hateful. Sad

Stephen Fry has been an advocate of this & has argued eloquently for the return of the marbles. They were obtained when Turkey was an occupying force & compared it to buying stolen art works from Hitler's occupying army. The marbles did not belong to the Turks & were not theirs to sell.
