Repeal Big Oil Tax Subsidies Act ACTION

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: republicans, big oil, tax payers, government, corruption )

This bill is a no-brainer. It saves taxpayers a lot of money and won't hurt an industry already raking in record profits. We just need a big show of public support to convince our Republican colleagues to do what's right for America.

Thank you... but we also need protections in the form of CAPS that dictate how much big oil can charge the people. Otherwise they will retaliate by gouging the hell out of us. Where's RICO when we need it?

I'm not noting or signing because of the Republican comment in the description. The world will never move on because we constantly have ignorant people pointing the fingers at parties, and not the PEOPLE making the choices. Maybe this should be aimed at Democrats, seeing as Obama is democrat and is the one who issued out the bail out for all the big oil companies. AND our national price of gas has more than DOUBLED while he has been in office.
YES we need to put a stop to big name oil companies raking in all the money. We need to lower our gas prices and get back on track. But that will never happen when people won't take responsibility. Our political officials need to be held responsible for their choices. NO MATTER what their party affiliation is.

The intent of these subsidies was to support a fledgling industry to enable it to become profitable--no one can argue that those reasons still exist and so it is time to stop fueling corporate profits with tax dollars.

Thank you for standing with Senators Ben Cardin and Bob Menendez to stop the $24 billion taxpayer-funded handout to Big Oil.

Ben and Bob are up for re-election in November and they need the help of grassroots supporters like you to be able to continue fighting for common-sense solutions like The Repeal Big Oil Tax Subsidies Act.

I just watched a program on the Sundance channel, about automobiles and the oil industry. It was most informative. It, clearly, explained why the oil industry is against electric cars, which is obvious, and the reason that auto makers don't want them, either, with very few exceptions.

It is only, a matter of time, before all this evidence makes itself known. The 2012 election, will most adsureedly, slow down the process, for obvious reasons.

Much to my dismay, I do believe, that our planet, revolves around the oli industry, in ways we will never be made aware, and those of us who could comprehend it, would be in the minority. Mind you, I'm not suggesting, I wuld be in this group.

To Tiffany Caler: Excuse my generalization, but your comment is typical of the attitude of most people.
The President of the United States, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Reagan, or any other, does not set the price of oil. The price of oil is determined by OPEC, _not_ Obama.

You can haggle over the bail-out, but not the vacillating price of oil. If you are looking for someone to blame, put it in the right direction.
The subsidies are permitted, due to contributions from the most powerful lobby in the world. There in, lies the problem.

Nancy L (141)
Monday April 23, 2012, 12:46 pm
They don't receive "subsidies", they receive the same tax breaks all corporations get. If you stop them for one you have to stop them for all.

These people should not be allowed to make such huge profits while charging so much for gas. They are obviously creating gas prices, rather than making it seem like that is the real price. Such a scam.

Q: Does the government really make more in taxes from the sale of a gallon of gasoline than the oil companies do?

A: Possibly. Both taxes and profits account for a large share, but which is larger depends on too many unknown factors to allow for a clear answer.

Try looking at some FACTS as opposed to making assumptions based on hate for the rich.

Do any of you realize what will happen if the revenues to the states and government go away???? What about all the people who's 401K's are all tied up in those "Evil Oil Comapanies". Do some research before you follow along like blind sheep.

Maui Gal (68)
Tuesday April 24, 2012, 11:11 am
Exactly Nan L. And obama and company wants to tax the 1% more.....well they will just reinvest their money overseas....which makes your 401K's drop big time. Does anyone ever stop to think who keeps this country running with their money invested here in America? Have you ever been offered a job by a poor person?

Instead of going after big oil who pays 43% corp tax, why don't you go after Apple that only pay like 9%, or google that pays ...I think it was like 12%, can't remember the exact amounts but Amazon only pays 5%. You are vilifying the wrong corporations. I'll try to find those numbers I saw earlier today.
