Prosecute Female Genital Mutilation in the UK ACTION

World  (tags: FGM, humanrights, freedoms, UK, women, ethics )

Since it was outlawed in 1985, not a single case of female genital mutilation (FGM) has been prosecuted. According to research by FORWARD, the leading UK charity working against FGM, approximately 66,000 girls have been mutilated in the UK, and 24,000...

66,000 girls have been mutilated in the UK, and 24,000 girls under 16 in England and Wales could be at risk of FGM.

Why is this happening in the UK of all places? I can understand it in some of those other Countries we read about, but in the UK! At such large numbers?!?!

The UK is slipping horribly in this area. I suppose if it was penis removal it would be getting high attention.

Petition signed.

FGM is outlawed in the UK. Prosecution must step up and start taking action.
Give prison terms for those who would force and harm those girls with FGM.

Ty, Nancy.

If it's been outlawed in the U.K., why isn't the law being enforced? I would imagine that this procedure is done very secretively, but If a charity has statistical information regarding the incidence of of FGM, why isn't the government aware? Or are they aware and just not prosecuting? If so, why pass a law against the practice?

Gladly signed and noted. Thanks, Nancy!

Disgusting. And what do those feminists have to say? Nothing, zilch. nada. That old trooper Germaine Greer mumbled something about 'custom' and 'culture' and shuffled some papers when she was asked about it. Truth is those old Marxist hags would rather let their sisters suffer and even die lest they be labeled 'racist'. The world is quite insane at the moment when real suffering and evil is permitted and real people are sacrificed on the ego soaked alter of political correctness.I need to vomit now.

Why isn't the law upheld? Fear of violent reprisal.

Signed. I read many years ago that Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries were buying up land in the UK and building their own hospitals there and I would guess this is the reason for these terrible statistics.

This still occurs in the US also. As long as families & the male culture believes this is worthwhile & values those women who have undergone this procedure, this will continue despite the severe suffering these young women go thru in order to be properly married & even after. Those who practice this & their families need to be prosecuted. Such a terrible act of violence again women, yet again.

noted, tweeted, signed, tweeted, shared, and commented. I was totally shocked to see this happening in the UK. It's just another example of men wanting to control women and keep them in an inferior position. At least we don't have to worry about such a thing happening in Michigan because Republican representatives are unable to even hear the word "Vagina," or at least Rep. Cellton can't. He said the word was so offensive he couldn't discuss it in mixed company. Just another example of men hating, fearing, and trying to control women.

Please note how CAREFULLY this petition is typically "politically correct" fashion, nothing is said about Muslim "culture" and "religion." We all know from where this disgusting mutilation comes...but we don't mention it, do we?

And why is that?

The numbers are frightening. Why is the UK government allowing this to happen and on such a large scale?
Pam W. Unfortunately your point is very valid.

I saw a documentary from Egypt some years ago which I cannot forget. A tiny girl- no more than 4 years old- trapped in a room with her mother and other women chasing the poor little thing around while the girl screamed 'No,no,no" she was eventually caught and mutilated while screaming pitifully.
I found it most traumatic to watch and still think about it and wonder how the little one is faring.
I don't give a hoot in hell what the 'custom', 'culture, or 'religious' motivation- it is barbaric, backward, cruel and sadistic. Mad as hell about the 'multiculture' and 'political correct' BS that allows and condones this abomination.Savagery has been elevated to 'culture' the world's gone insane!
