Ban Plastic Bags in Favor of Reusable Bags ACTION

Green Lifestyle  (tags: plastic bags, sustainable, eco-friendly, conservation, environment, greenproducts, recycling )

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says plastic bags can take 1,000 years to decompose, thus permanently taking up space in landfills. Plastic bags are made from polymer and polymer resin which require oil or natural gas to produce.

I dont like the fact that they dont hold glass bottles well (usually they break so you must double or triple bag) and they arent strong or reusuable. Why not ban them and use canvas (bring your own) or use a store's for environmental and economial concerns.

380,000,000,000 for 250,000,000 people (approximately) - surely equals more than 1,000 plastic bags each per year for every man woman and child!! Yikes - what a waste of resources! We should ban them everywhere.

What is sad is that too many people won't walk out of a store without having their purchase in a plastic bag! Since when does an gallon plastic milk jug need to be put in a plastic bag?

Your signature has been recorded. I've been using my own canvas bags since back in the mid seventies. Where is everyone on this? Talk is cheap as they say. This is an easy one to deal with, carry your own reusable bags.

Signed and noted thanks Nancy. I agree Dandelion it is up to us as consumers. Plastic bags will no longer be manufactured when we stopped buying the damn things. We are absolutely part of the equation - part of the problem.

Signed. We've been using reusable bags for years and it has never made any difference to us. Except that we don't have bags to throw away any more.

I live next door to Frys. I try to drop in to check their bargains each day. Sometimes, I shop on the spur of the moment without my bag. So, I carry the groceries home in my arms! Most people seem to be aware of the peril of plastic bags in the environment. So, I'm sorta preaching a sermon when I carry several items in my arms rather than using a plastic bag.

One of the clerks told me it makes her sick when people stuff two or three plastic bags together for their
groceries. I can get smiles by saying, "Let's protect our planet."

Where I live, the local grocery market discounts a nickel per re-used bag at the grocery checkout. I would much prefer to see this sort of incentive based bag promotion than put up with a stupid and counterproductive ban. I bring one or more bags with me to the store when I shop and don't mind an occasional plastic bag for overflow groceries when there's more than will fit in the bags I brought, though I dislike using plastic for everything and despise seeing someone's discarded bag kiting its way towards the coast.

Signed gladly! I have a collection of reusable bags I carry around to various stores, and usually, everything fits. We need to cut down on landfill space. Of course, I'm preaching to the choir here, as they say...
