And interestingly, Kraft, Coca Cola and Wal-Mart have already removed these artificial food colors and dyes from the products that they distribute in other countries. They've reformulated their product lines in other countries and no longer include these

I think it comes down to the fact that corporations will only do as much as they must, and no more--unfortunately, the US government has shown that it's people are disposable--just my opinion.
I'd rather make my own SAFE dyes anyway--thanks for the info Nancy.

Posted. It's like I always say; no market = no profit and if that is the case they won't manufacture that product. That is the power of consumerism. The problem with Canadians and Americans is that we're lazy in this respect.
All my friends are using this so it must be good. That kind of reasoning always makes me question the intelligence level of "friends". It's time we all stood up and told these corporations to take a long walk off a short pier.

..."Link between the introduction of GMOs into our food supply & the sudden epidemic we were seeing in the number of American kids with food allergies. Financial ties between doctors & agrichemical, food & pharmaceutical corporations can play a pretty important role in what these doctors are willing to say. So when people get heated up around the science of food dyes, I find myself asking the same questions: Who has funded the research? ..."

The American food supply is a disaster and the government is complicit in a great deal of it. Distressingly even more so is to find that some organic food companies that some of you may be familiar with as Cascadian, for example, paid (at least I believe that is what I read if I recall correctly) money to help defeat Prop. 37 in California. Can anyone say Monsanto?

i'm with you Deborah..
Ben and Jerrys parent company, Unilever, dumped a fortune into defeating prop. 37..and when they decided to use no GMO's, WA. State asked for some funding to get it passed here.
The reply? Ben and Jerry's wouldn't do it, and oh so conveniently announced they were "getting out of politics".
No doubt, i'm sure counting money without having to share it has a certain companies i no longer wish to patronize...and just last week i was looking forward to some chunky monkey, now gone for from my freezer forever.

Corporations will do what ever people want them to do, but they will not make higher cost products that no one buys. Personally I like for foods that use thinks like maple syrup for coloring, but I also pay more for that. Most Americans should realize that food cost more elsewhere, there is a reason for that.

Thanks for the info, Nancy. I signed onto the Just Label It campaign because of stuff like this. As more people get involved, and share info with even more, we can have a lasting impact on this industry. Don't give up the fight.

From the article:

"When I first learned about this in the spring of 2007, I was stunned. Our American companies had removed these harmful ingredients from their products overseas—but not here?

When I first learned this, I found the information discouraging. But then I realized that we aren’t asking our corporations to reinvent the wheel, we are simply asking for them to place the same products on our grocery store shelves that they are selling overseas.

Because Kraft, Coca Cola and Wal-mart are living proof that is possible for giant corporations to make and sell kid-friendly, family-friendly, and healthy processed foods so that we can give our kids some special treats—like the U.K. versions of Starburst and Skittles, for example —without necessarily exposing them to a chemical cocktail that might also give them brain tumors, or leukemia, or the symptoms of ADHD, as the Center for Science in the Public Interest recently highlighted in their report “Rainbow of Risks.”

It's time for us to start making noise! Why is it that these U.S. companies would remove harmful ingredients from their products sold overseas, but not here? Who's protecting them? And why? It has to be about MONEY. It always is...
