This is a temporary mandate ("shall") for the Secretary. It has to be temporary since Congress and the president cant' get away with permanently barring court action to protect the public or permanently denying scientific input.

I dare not say anything here for fear that it could be used against me in a court of law! Thanks Nancy.

Like Ive been saying..just another part of a huge conspiracy for the govt to get us and keep us sick..Whats strange though is they want to kill us off, (thats what war is for as well) yet half of them want as many children born as possible, with no support for the poor since wallstreet and govt got together and destroyed the they are starving programs while giving free money to their friends who dont need it.
I KNEW Obama was in bed with Monsanto..and it proves they are out to KILL US ALL. How much you want to bet NONE of them eat that garbage?
This MAY change after 6 months but this 6 months is crucial for them to do some SERIOUS DAMAGE and thats exactly whats being done.

Gina C, you are so right on!

I've noticed some companies are proudly proclaiming (or lying?) that they don't use GME.

Just an imaginary glimpse on the other side.

Well, John, your new body is being prepared for you. It will have a variety of special accomodations for you.
The nerves will be in consistent pain. One eye will have little vision and the other none. Your thinking ability will be just enough to let you know what's happening but unable to do anything about it. It should suit you beautifully.

Why are you complaining. You put your money into Monsanto. These are your profits.

Their GMO crap is already responsible for killing off the Bee population. Who in hell will they be selling this s**t to after it kills off all the human population. Makes them one of the horsemen doesn't it.

Monsanto, and the anti-healthcare rally feed right into the culture of death. Shirley B. - you put it so eloquently comparing them to the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse (they come riding in using horsepower instead of horses these days). As long as what they do benefits them personally in the short term, they don't care about the rest of us, or the long term repercussions of what they do. I cannot say "forgive them Lord" - for they KNOW what they are doing!

"Off the hook" means that Monsanto put money into election coffers or directly into representative's pockets. Nothing new in America.

I am not too surprised - but that doesn't mean that I mourn for our efforts to keep this day from coming -- I don't know what money trail to follow, but there appears to be a motivation that I can't find that would allow Obama to do this - as well as I would predict - to follow through on the Keystone - we haven't the slightest idea what the ramifications of both of these will do to our planet! It will be changed -- "in a moment - in the twinkling of an eye - at the last Trumpet" -- sorry - the Atheist gets Handelian biblical for the holiday! Our food supply may be forever altered in that these GMO's will cross-pollinate - creating species of ingestible material foreign to science - and with Keystone we'll alter climate change and I expect my poor grand daughter's life will be facing a sorry and shortened end - but perhaps now it will happen sooner than I originally thought - don't know if that's what's going to do me in -- a few more super storms will tell!
I can only say we should follow the money, but then - what good is the inevitable at this point?

why all this complaining from you u.s. citizens about monsanto, tar sands etc. etc. it won't get you anywhere in the long run. what you should do is find where the ceo's of these companies live - shouldn't be difficult- and lethally eliminate them , as they are doing to the poor wolves.

I've registered my complaints with the White House through some petitions and letters. The key here is to keep up the pressure. I believe Sen. Mikulski is being targeted because of her position on this and helping push the bill through...other Dems who voted "yes" are also being targeted. We must be relentless. Just today, I've had at least 2 dozen various requests from members of the Dem. party for donations. They will get zero from me, and I'm "unsubscribing" from their mailing lists. I ended up on several prior to the last elections, and have just been deleting them when I see them in my inbox. But, now is the time to send a message.

I wish that the representatives WE ELECT would represent our interests us, rather than the interests of major corporations, like Monsanto.

Thanks for the article, Nancy--too much anger and despair to write anything--besides, I think the others have written most eloquently!
