Now, in response to the bombings, cities everywhere are beefing up surveillance. But isn't it far more likely that this technology will be used to curtail law-abiding citizens' constitutional rights instead of deter terrorism?

Are you sure we didn't get captured in some science fiction writer's attempt at a best seller?

Times are so scary. We need something good to happen. The Russian Intelligence warned us two times and each time was ignored - I want to know why! Were the Americans too egotistical, stupid or both to LISTEN to the Russians? Why did they ignore Russian Intelligence? Because they decided to ignore the Russians we now have two dead young women and a dead child. Why is there not more of an outcry over this? Why are we brow beating the IRS over asking too many questions of tax dodging conservatives? Why are they hell bent on finding blaming Benghazi solely on Hillary Clinton? Who dropped the ball at the Boston City Marathon? Because they dropped the ball people have lost loved ones, limbs and happiness. They were failed miserably. We all were failed miserably. The people that were hospitalized for their injuries should not have to pay a penny for anything. And I guarantee their recovery will take years if not a full lifetime. Homeland Security should pay every cent for their recovery plus compensate all families who suffered from this tragedy with a very heft sum. I don't want to hear another thing about an IRS scandal I want to know what idiot or group of idiots let this happen in Boston.

The only way to stop terrorists is for us to get the heck out of their countries. We should never have gone there in the first place. We need to rephrase the words on the Statue of Liberty...we don't want any more people from other countrys...we are full up and need to take care of our own for a change!

This article was somewhat disjointed and erratic in its approach to the issue. The real problem here and throughout the terrorist threat counteraction is this administration and all its agencies is deliberately placing emphasis on pointing attention away from islamic terror threats to anyone else it can. This is becoming more apparent in the "training" being given to all national security agencies from the military through the FBI/CIA and other agencies to even the TSA in their airport "screening" procedures. Most focus have been on what the administration and even the locked in media call "right wing groups" where there is zero merit in experience. Every incident including the Boston bombing started off as 'TEA Party/tax resisters/militia/gun rights/etc caused and then the power structure ends up with islamic egg on its face. We still have the fiction that Ft Hood was "workplace violence". As to "getting out of their countries" you need to look at the history of the alleged 'religion of peace" from its inception in the 7th Century and its violent and aggressive actions!

This is exactly the sort of thing that the DHS supposedly exists to prevent. If I recall correctly, law-enforcement and intelligence-gathering services were gathered under one agency, the DHS, in the wake of the report on the 9/11 attacks which found that they might have been prevented with better cooperation and information-sharing among agencies. A failure of this sort suggests a failure in the central mission of the DHS.

Thanks so much for posting, Nancy....wish I weren't out of stars for you today.
The news wasn't as surprising as the fact that I'm able to read it from the wonderful group speaking truth-to-power. What would be truly wonderful, would be this article appearing all over the media and calling out those DHS Fusion Centers. Talk about a boondogle! As I understand it, the biggest Fusion Center is presently under construction in UT and is costing us taxpayers Billion$. DHS needs to be completely dismantled and de-funded. We could use that money to fund education, among other priorities.
I agree 100% with Amy's comment: that DHS should pay for all recovery and compensation to the victims and families. TSA is also a horrible joke that needs to just go away quietly...rapescans and all. I haven't flown since they implemented those horrendous patdowns. Metal detectors, air marshals and reinforced closed cockpit doors, along with better informed passengers works.

Of course DHS doesn't prevent terror they are terror. They do exactly the wrong thing and treat us all like criminals while breeding more radicals and planning more false flags.

Easy to comment and make judgment when you watch from the sidelines. Harder when you have to make choices such as a persons rights.

Welcome to modern society. No matter how much things change the more they stay the same.

DHS is like the SS. They have wat too much concentrated power to run roughshod over individual rights
