With over 2,000,000 workers receiving poverty-level wages, the federal government is by far the largest employer of low paying jobs in the country. It exceeds McDonald's (600,000) and Walmart (900,000) combined.

Those silly people who are still enamored of this unresponsivePresident should watch and count the number of "tell Obama, Ask Obama, Tell the White house, etc" petitions we see daily on CARE2. They are all indicative of an administration that has failed us, the environment and the country. I am so sorry I was once one of his supporters!

Signed and noted. Thanks for sharing, Nancy. Obama really needs to help the people that work in the government instead of ignoring them.

American workers need and deserve something much better than a minimum wage; they need a livable wage that ensures their ability to participate in our economy and to achieve financial security. Only Dr. Jill Stein and the Green Party of the United States have proposed the creation of a livable wage as part of the Green New Deal.

Gladly signed and noted for the workers. It is in my opinion that the average worker has to pay for what the Big Banks & Mortgage Companies did to cause the near downfall of such a great country. There is more money tossed around during elections to those running, that would help many, many people live a decent life, and perhaps be able to put a roof over their heads too...one that has a mortgage held by only one bank, and not moved around from one bank to another, to another and perhaps to another country. To me it is CRAZY what has happened...and we never hear anymore of people who lost everything and were living in tents...I for one would be interested in knowing what happened to them.

Thanks for signing the petition.

Gee according to the GOP these Government workers are rolling in the dough.

Oh, they must of been thinking of themselves who work for Government.

I recall how they said that Government workers were paid so much higher of wage than private industry.

It wasn't fair the GOP said and some CEO's, highly paid Government workers at the lower paid private workers expense. The old divide and conquer and have one set of labor at the other set of laborers throats, instead of at the real culprits in all of this.

As for your question Elizabeth, hope you are still tracking. This is a list of notable tent cities in the United States.

A tent city is an encampment or housing facility made using tents or other temporary structures. Such cities have proliferated in the U.S. as a result of the 2008 financial crisis.
Tent Cities In the USA

This doesn't take into account those living in smaller groups in the woods, or under bridges, in their cars, living in abandoned homes, living in the shelters, or a host of other places that the poor and homeless try to find to lay their head down. Can you imagine never feeling safe while you sleep?
Let alone a place to eat, prepare food, store food, to have toilet facility or wash up in. The very basics of life.
