Springsteen wrote the song in response to the 1999 shooting death of Amadou Diallo, an unarmed man who was killed by four New York City police officers who said they thought Diallo had pulled a gun on them.

Since Bruce is white, I presume he wasn't physically attacked for the dedication? (Did that sound snotty? Aw gee.)

I think it was nice tribute /a nice thing to do. I don't believe he did it to gain more popularity because he is too old. ..... TY for posting

Thank you for this Nancy.

You know it's possible that George Zimmerman was given a sentence severe as death. His face is recognized by all of the people who followed the trial. If he goes into a grocery store, he'll be immediately recognized. If he walks down the street he meets with anger and probable violence. His family is not safe so he can't hide with them, He doesn't have the money to get plastic surgery.

He has the hatred of many directed right at him,

The DEATH VIBES are getting him!

He wouldn't survive in prison except in solitary confinement.

He would not be able to commit suicide,

There would be no escape.

In prison he's dead.

Out of prison he's dead.

And there is no escape.

I commend anyone that is standing up to this injustice. Please check this story out below, if anyone can help or know of anyone who can. Again, another with no medical care in this Country.

Lester Chambers was assaulted on stage at the Russell City Hayward Blues Festival after dedicating his hit, "People Get Ready," to Trayvon Martin.
Lester Chambers Musician Age 73

The 73 year old singer made national news last year when he spoke out during the “99% movement” about not being paid royalties for the majority of his career and, after making music history over a decades-long career, has yet to be paid.

Truthfully, I would have had more respect for Springsteen if he dedicated the song before the verdict was announced.

Thanks to Bruce Springsteer and Stevie Wonder for what they've done in memory of Trayvon Martin hoping that others artists around will do or say something in his memory too. Thanks Nancy for sharing.

Half of America must be heartsick by the mental sickness of some of the rest... and sick to their stomachs as well, as are so many around the world, looking on with horror at the bizarre attitudes displayed in too much commentary and too many legal decisions.

America needs to bring back media laws which demand that anything presented as news must be truthful, in order to prevent such a large percentage of their population from being filled with corporate propaganda and blind, mindless hatred, from being misled into voting against their own interests, and from behaving like rabid attack-dogs trained to savage the vulnerable to order.

The internet is more than enough on its own to propagate lunacy - public airwaves must not be filled with the toxic excrement of those who wish to tear the country apart to more easily pick over the corpse for fun and profit.

And the concentration of the media into very few corporate hands - vulture capitalists being more than well-represented among investors/owners - is a thing to be recognized and fought with the return of the anti-monopoly laws intended to protect the people from such imposition and propagandization.
