More than 100,000 people signed a petition on the White House website asking President Obama to take action. But while expressing his support the president declined to intercede with the FCC himself.

Ty Nancy ... Thank you for speaking out through http://www.peaceteam.net

...our rights are infringed on far more by profiteers and marketeers ie., "private corporations" than our constantly de-funded government. . . of course " We The People" cannot serve each other as well as possible when there are so many who constantly with hold the very resources that allow us to do so. . .could nonsense and confusion be any more obvious?

“Confusion now hath made his masterpiece.” ― William Shakespeare

"As long as our civilization is essentially one of property, of fences, of exclusiveness, it will be mocked by delusions." ―Ralph Waldo Emerson

''Even our commercial policy should hold an equal and impartial hand: neither seeking nor granting exclusive favors or preferences.'' —Adam Smith, "Father of Modern Economics"

“The government is us; WE are the government, you and I." ― Theodore Roosevelt, Fmr. U.S. Pres.

“Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us." ―Franklin D. Roosevelt, Fmr. U.S. Pres.

Noted. I have to research the law. Be careful what you wish for. Making the Common Carrier will ABSOLUTELY AND IRREVOCABLY give the government control over the content in ways people haven't thought through yet.

Can anyone tell me WHY providers should become Common Carriers?

Jordan, the internet service providers are common carriers as are the telephone and cable companies. That is they provide service to "we the people" and should not select what we receive. Thanks for the update and petition.

Compulsive fixers fixing themselves and everyone else into a morass of statutes, acts and by laws that always seem to hold more threat than the original situation. Much wider and deeper than most will admit to.

Sorry, Virgene. That was an ipse dixit argument and, respectfully, it was incorrect.

At the moment, they do not "select" what you can see. The issue was whether you could buy download speeds and certain other matters, which various carriers already have as tiered rates. But once they become common carriers, the content is up for control grabs as well.

I am not signing at this time because I don't understand. If I get it and think it's right I will sign.
