Tiktaalik, Shubin has observed, was a fish capable of doing a push-up. It had both lungs and gills. In sum, it's quite the transitional form.

I've heard for years that we are descended from fish, but this is the first picture I've seen of our great-great (etc) fish--a really great article--thanks Nancy!

Thanks, Nancy. Noted. What I found interesting about this article was the researcher stating how the climate in Northern Canada was noticeably changing. The same has been true in my neck of the woods since the '80s, when I first remarked upon it. At that time, I don't think climate change was widely discussed, and I don't remember attributing it to any specific cause. It was just an observation.

noted & shared with some delight ... although the believers in "intelligent design" aka creationism are entirely capable of ignoring truth, reality, evidence, etc.

Thank you Nancy, for a very interesting article. Each day another missing link is dug up somewhere on the planet that validates evolution once more. Not that the creationists will lose any sleep over it, nothing can penetrate that steel plate called delusion in front of their heads. Thus does ignoring reality lead to (blissful) ignorance.

Recently on the internet, I watched an octopus crawl out of the water and walk on land.
It was most amazing.
You could call me it, watching evolution in progress.

You must remember, that no matter what convincing facts you show people, who refuse to believe in evolution, they just are not capable of accepting it.
It frightens them to their core. It is a fruitless exercise. It's all about FEAR.

This is such an interesting article. Thank You Nancy. Can also see now how climate change has changed the Northern Canadian Arctic. Climate deniers take note. Climate change is good for the paleontologist. What a great discovery this has made to evolution.
