Since 1973, at least 144 people have been freed after evidence revealed that they were wrongfully sentenced to die. That's almost one innocent person exonerated for every ten who've been executed.

Interesting numbers, yes, it is true that if someone is executed and then is later on found to be innocent, it is impossible to bring them back to life and then apologize for the error.

My country abolished capital punishment decades ago, which was a good idea.

Noted, Signed, Commented. I know of at least one case in the South, where an innocent man was framed by at least one officer and who was murdered while waiting for a stay of execution to allow for DNA testing of the “evidence".

Death-penalty is not fool-proof, doesn't stop crime, is expensive and in reality is no more than state-cautioned murder.

S&N, thanks Nancy!

I FIND THIS VERY SAD!! THE INNOCENT DIE,AND LOT OF GUILTY ONE'S GET OFF.I BELIEVE A LOT HAS TO DO WITH WHO HAS THE BIG BUCK'S. THE JUSTICE SYSTEM IS SO SCREWED UP. *O J SIMPSON* FOR EXAMPLE. MONEY TALK'S BULL SHI. WALK'S. I'VE SEEN MOVIE'S TRUE STORIES WATCHING INNOCENT PEOPLE BEING WRONGFULLY EXECUTED. VERY SAD. AND ALSO THERE ARE SO MANY CROOKED JUDGES,AS I MENTIONED MOST OF THE TIME IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY. VERY SAD. Theresa R.

The death penalty has never been a deterrent to crime. It is disproportionately handed out to minorities and or the poor.Which is everyone who doesn't have a few million, to many millions to spend on a "fair" trial. The cost is prohibitively expensive to prosecute. The US is on a short list of countries that include Iran, and north Korea that still have this barbaric act sanctioned by our government. That alone should show us we are doing the wrong thing. Finally it's just plain wrong and uncivilized. It needs to stop but we can't even get 5 minute background checks for all gun purchases, so I'm not holding my breath. JMO.

Been there and signed that. In my prison volunteer work a know a couple prisoners whose death penalties were commuted to natural life during the hiatus in executions in the late 1970s. They will never get out. They now spend their time helping other prisoners learn how to break they cycles that led to their own downfall. I have no doubt that their efforts have saved lives, and while that does not excuse what they did, they contribute more to society than those who would have strapped them down and murdered them under cover of law.

The Death Penalty is immoral and illegal.
Ever hear of a millionaire on death row?
Ever hear of a way to undo a wrongful execution?
Ever hear of people being framed by crooked officials for murder?

The Death penalty DOES NOT prevent murders. It only serves as revenge.
It is only used by idiot politicians to get votes.
A Death penalty case costs MORE than a life sentence.
The Death penalty is nothing more that a self-serving knee jerk reaction and solves nothing.
