This news was so sad..My heart goes out to his friends and family..I think the death of Walter Cronkite really put an end to an era I so fondly recalled..He was a true gentleman..a wonderful anchor man..And we will not see again someone as special as he was in the world of news reporting..He was a true icon in his time..

Thanks June..

I agree with that Dee! He was loved by all and a 'real person', not somebody with phony airs about them. He was a real American icon who is sadly missed in the world of TV news and those who listened to the knowledge he brought. RIP Walter

More a mentor than an idol, Walter Cronkite taught me more how a real journalist reports the news than all the classes I took in college to become a newswoman . He embodied the watchful eye of his CBS network logo and with, rare exception, spoke the facts as he knew them. I recall the moment he confirmed the death of President John Kennedy; for a split second, his voice quivered and he glanced away from the television camera as he composed himself and made ready for the media madness he knew would follow. I also remember his boyish enthusiasm when he witnessed that "one small step for man" left on the surface of the moon. And, yes, he will forever be the most trusted man in America because no matter how ugly or painful, Walter Cronkite spoke the truth.

Just as sad as Walter's passing is the death of American TV journalism that occurred around the same time he retired.

A great loss. RIP. Probably the last news reporter alive who reported the news instead of sensationalized it with his commentary, opinions and emotions. We will miss you...

Noted. You are right Ralph, Walter Cronkite brought the news as he saw it.

: And That’s Not the Way It Is

What matters about Walter Cronkite is that he knew when to stop being reassuring Uncle Walt and to challenge those who betrayed his audience’s trust.
