Alzheimer's was discovred by Dr. Alzheimer...then forgotten for over sixty years. At the turn of the century, people were not living beyond their early fifties, and a disease that struck later was considered a waste of time to research. It was not until sixty years later when life expectency started reaching into the Alzheimer's age that doctors began taking notice.

If people had begun studying the disease when it was discovered, we would have had a cure decades ago.
