A 64-year-old woman is being held without bail, accused in a horrific animal cruelty case. Officials initially thought there were just 20 cats. One reason: the hair of two of the cats were so intertwined that everyone thought the matted

I'm glad they are taking this seriously and that she is being held without bail. I'm sure the prison wardens won't make her sleep in and eat from her own urine and feces the way she did to the cats.

My question also Mick. Will those poor babies have to pay with their lives? That horrible woman must never be allowed anywhere near an animal ever again. What a monster.

No one should ever take advantage of a weaker or more vulnerable living thing...each living thing has such beauty and we can learn from them instead of abusing them. Im so glad the cats are not longer experiencing that and I hope their energy will be restored to what their energy was meant to be as beautiful Persian cats...

"There were flies and fleas pounding at the window, trying to get out," said animal control officer Susanne Beauregard.

Investigators say they found cat after cat with hair, feces and urine all matted together.

Some of the cats were taken to the South Bay Veterinary Clinic, where the animals lost inches of matted hair. A bag full of hair from just four of the cats weighted 2 pounds and 15.5 ounces.

Each of the cats is expected to survive, but it make take a year before all the fur grows back. Meanwhile each cat is being handled extremely carefully.

"Each cat must be treated compassionately but as if it were a crime scene of its own," said Beauregard.

Prosecutors on Friday said they have reason to believe this same horror may have happened seven years ago in Bellevue, where Lawson lived at the time.

They said Lawson's former neighbors called and said when she moved out of her Bellevue home, its floor and walls had to be ripped out because they were contaminated with cat urine and feces.

Never mind no bail ... pass the gun, I'll shot the bitch myself!!

Oh my dear God.
Jesus Wept.
I couldn't even finish reading
the story.
It's certainly bad enough that
she was abusing the cats, but Persians?!
I was proudly-owned by a wonderful Persian
named Casey, and he was with me for 10 yrs.
prior to his passing from cancer in 1999.
Persians are such a sweet, loving, loyal
breed, and it moves me to tears to know
what this cast-iron bitch did to hers.
Held without bail?.....good damned deal!
THIS is the kind of reaction that ALL
courts and judges need to have when dealing
with EVERY animal abuse case!

Thanks, June, and thanks also
to Brenda for sending me this.

Noted! I hope they jail this insane woman for life. Actually she belongs in a mental instituion. This was horrific and apparently not the first time she has done this. There has to be something wrong with people like that because it sure as hell isn't their love for animals. I hope the judge can find it in his heart to commit this woman for the good of all animals, not to mention the people who move in after her. Thanks Dave for the story. Upscale neighborhood? I wonder why the stench didn't alert some of the upscale people who lived around her? Apparently there are advantages to living in the "hood".

This is despicable. I'm glad these kinds of crimes are being taken seriously - and I'm glad this woman is being held without bail. I hope they prosecute her to the hilt!

Thank You June for posting this...Unbelievable...These poor cats. How was this finally brought to the attention of authorities? That was never mentioned. In a reported upscale neighborhood why was it not found out/reported sooner? So many questions.
On the other hand there does seem to be an increase of seeing more and more animal abuse issues and the tragic events. Perhaps because people are aware when something seems amiss AND are doing something about it. Thank God people are getting involved and speaking up.

Dave, this is heartbreaking. I watched this on the news and could not believe how a person could do this to helpless cats. I understand that two of the cats were conjoined by their matted fur. I am discusted and sickened by this heartless treatement of these wonderful animals.
Patti R, as to how the authorities found out, a repair man came to the house to repair something and turned her in. She was reported to be a very quiet person and not at all social. I think prison will be very good for her for the rest of her life.

Oh my goodness!!!! This is really horrible. When do people start acting like people ? It hurts my heart, how this woman treats our furry sisters and brothers. This woman should be in prison for life.

Thanks for posting this here.
