Don't you realize that the almighty dollar is all that matters to "Hollywood"?

3D animals should be used when there is a situation where an animal might be put in danger. In many cases they are indistinguishable from the real animals. In O Brother, Where Art Thou? the scenes were realistic enough that PETA filed a suit against them for animal cruelty. The suit wasn't dropped until the studio responsible for the effects and animal animations proved to the Director/President of PETA that the animals where completely digital.

I just saw that "Vampire’s Kiss" was on the list because the character ate a roach. It's like a joke, they are angling for any material to ad and this is only discrediting to the cause. That's disgusting but it's not animal cruelty. They are BUGS not animals, and I kill roaches whenever I see them. Bugs should not be compared to animals, they are NOT the same as a dog or horse, etc.

Beyond belief!!! - not different though to the cruelty in what they call "factory farming". If we eat enough of these poor creatures, we might end up becoming immune to animal cruelty in film.

We just saw a promo a few days ago for the latest in the "Buddies" series, and I commented to my husband that I always wonder what happens to the many puppies that have to be used in the making of these movies. They grow out of the rolls immediately, and only a few of them are promising enough to be trained further.

I envision most of them landing in a shelter -- and why, when an "Adopt a Buddy" program could surely find homes for all of them? Poor puppies. How many of them from the first movie are even still alive?

About the "Buddy" movies - how can the director NOT tell when a puppy is under 8 weeks old??? How did these little ones get fed, if the mother wasn't there? In my opinion, any director involved in a movie where animals are used should be required to take a mandatory course in the basics of animal health and behavior.

Sad and insane. The abuse also happens to animals in circuses. Animals usually do not jump stairs, do not balance on top of balls, etc.. unless they are forced to do these stunts with threats of physical punishment. The solution is to boycott such shows.

noted. We need to cease using live animals in movies. What they do now with computer animation is the way to present animals when needed. It makes me sick to see commercials still using live animals to push their agenda-money!

Another one to boycott: 'The Grey' misrepresents wolves. Real wolves avoid fellow predators, including humans, entirely, only getting hostile if humans threaten the denning mothers with pups directly. Only diseased wolves will attack humans without provocation. A donkey in the herd or herding dogs on patrol will deter wolf predation on livestock. Thois sorry movie has imitation or goaded wolves attacking humans unprovoked and other misrepresentations. Scrap it for Disney 'Never Cry Wolf', Kostner 'Dances With Wolves', London's 'Call of the Wild', and Kipling's original 'Jungle Book'. Those four give more accurate representations of wolves.

I HATE TO HEAR THAT PUPPIES DIED AND WERE INJURED WHILE MAKING THIS MOVIE. THERE SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY NO WAY THIS COULD HAPPEN. I HOPE THAT THOSE RESPONSIBLE WERE PROSECUTED AND THAT THEY WILL NEVER BE ALLOWED TO WORK WITH ANY ANIMALS OR BE INVOLVED IN ANY WAY WITH ANY PRODUCTION IN WHICH ANIMALS ARE USED EVER AGAIN. OUR ENTIRE FAMILY LOVES THE "AIR BUD" & "BUDDIES" MOVIES, AND THAT THIS HAPPENED TO THOSE SWEET INNOCENT PUPPIES IS HEARTBREAKING.

I'm convinced that many movies are shot outside the US not just to save money, but so they can do whatever they want without any federal guidelines or the likes of the AHA or snooping around. These movie people are not to be trusted on their word alone...ever.

Trust movie people? You're joking. They're in it for the money and ego merit. I think all animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures like dolphins used in movies should be strictly monitored by on-site team of animal welfare people. No movie is worth pain or death of other living creatures.

Even if no animals were hurt or killed during the actual filming, all the poor things would have to do is watch the movie once the inane "voices" and stupid dialog is added, and they'd keel over dead of embarrassment. I would certainly boycott any of these movies except for the fact that I'd never consider watching them in the first place.

The "Buddies" movies are among my daughters favourites. It is so sad to hear that an unethical animal dealer/trainer would put unhealthy and underage puppies in a situation where they would be not survive. It should never have happened. I can't say as I expected expected much better from Disney however. At least the animated films can't harm any real animals. I will have to check out the other "Buddies" titles to see if they got the AHA approval rating.

People who knowingly hurt any other living creature for "amusement" are less than human and should suffer the same type of abuse as they dole out.

There should be a member of the Humane Society assigned to any movie that has live animals. It should be part of the contract as well as the Humane Society being paid for protecting those animals from harm. That is such a shame about those pups. Disney has enough money to protect any animals that are used in their films. whoever was the trainer in the Buddy movies should lose his license as well.

And now for something completely different: I am disappointed that Winter the Dolphin wasn't recognized by the Motion Picture Academy in the animal actor category. She was a natural! There would have been a problem w/her acceptance speech, though.

When I was a child in the '60s and '70s, any movie or nature show made by Disney was pretty much guaranteed to be wholesome family entertainment that was above suspicion. Granted, some were tearjerkers because an animal died as a part of the story, but there was never any hint that the animal was really hurt. I'd like to think that it really was true that animals were treated better back then, before Disney became darker, grittier, and smuttier... but now I'm not so sure. :o(

Any movie company that allows a horse to be blown up or other living things to be mistreated should be shut down permanantly. No excuse for this kind of behavior just to raise money and fool the public into thinking that animals are not harmed. Shame on Disney. This is very disappointing.

Orangutan beaten for 20 mins with ax handle by trainer, besides other days of abuse is really no joke. And still got to keep the smile and laughs with Clint Eastwood. Mental torture and a very very sad life... And they primates are like us humans... That is really sad... I think just stick to cartoons...

THIS IS A VERY SAD HAPPENING. Our family loves the "Buddies" movies. We've rented most all of them. -That this happened to the puppies because Disney Studios was defrauded is UNTHINKABLE & MUST NEVER EVER HAPPEN AGAIN TO ANY ANIMAL ACTOR ON ANY SET OF ANY MOVIE BEING MADE BY ANY STUDIO OR PRODUCTION COMPANY.
