Iran is so well patrolled and under constant surveillance from our Aegis cruisers, they could never shoot a missile out of their own territory. Thank you, Frank for the story. It is a situation that is good to stay abreast of under all circumstances. But I feel safe because I know just some of the unclassified capabilities of the Aegis cruisers.

Reminds me slightly of the situation in Iraq when no WMD could be found but the invasion happened anyway. They justify attacks even if they are unjustifiable. I remember Blair saying that if we knew what he knew we would understand the need to invade Iraq. Supposed to be Iraq could within 45 mins wage nuclear war on the UK? Er, no. Would they have wanted to even if they had the capability? They would have had to be mad considering the amount of nuclear weapons possessed by the US and the UK. What nonsense. And here we go again with Iran. No one with an iota of intelligence was brainwashed into believing that an attack on Iraq was justified. No one will be brainwashed into believing that Iran is a threat. The Iranian govt is not stupid enough to want to be annihilated. But if the US wants to do it, they will. And just as with Iraq, it won't matter what sane people think. Sad but true. My feelings can't be printed because they involve disallowed expletives.

There will be no nuclear weapons in Iran, they just want electricity because they have to get it from Europe. The whole thing is being worked out peaceably and for the best good of the whole world.
People are people , we are all one and we have to help each other. That includes the USA , Europe, etc. not exploiting counties for resources. Sharing is the order of the day :):):). There is enough for all. The race for solar and other renewables is very important.
The people of Iran seek the change we all do WORLDWIDE , as humanity enters the Golden Age..... REJOICE!:):):)

Thx Eleanor

When it all boils down, Frank, the US wants to control the world even more than it does already and it tries to terrorise every and any country that does not kow-tow. And if you have oil or are of strategic importance, well, tough. But all empires crumble and America will go the same way as every other one day. Speed the day.

Excellent point Yvonne..the whole yellow cake fiasco, reflected a determination to make the evidence fit the pre-determined desire to go to war..I hope Obama's government respects the information gleaned by the intelligence community..which as you may remember was sidelined under Bush..or stepped into line ie George Tenet head of the CIA.
Iran has no desire to create nukes..and as Betsy points out, they are heavily surveyed.Almadinajad may be an odios right wing, holocaust denying hardliner..but the country's quest for nuclear energy is valid..
I do beleive that if the Repubs would have won power, then America would either be at war with Iran..or more advanced in it's preparations for war.

The problem for this country AND the World is: For the Cheney Cabal's last year in Office there was an ongoing massive transfer of their political puppets (criminals) being embedded into civilian government jobs in DC. They are now in all branches.... thousands of them....and they can't be fired!! The worst 'helpers' of the Great Decider and his Dark Devil.are still hard at work on their and their corporate backers' behalf.... doing all possible to stall the correction of the disasters created over 8 years.

I have absolutely no doubt that Iran has nothing but the best of intentions...I don't really know (do you?) but why not err on the side of reason?...

Nuclear power is a threat?...You and I are fully aware that if Iran attacked the USA they would be obliterated in retaliation...Is Iran as stupid as that?...NO...Israel would like to take out Iran and the US is its greatest 'friend'...But it is sad times when the US backs a proven mass murderer (Gaza) in the government/media inspired frenzy under the guise of protecting the US nation from non-existent weapons of mass deception once again?...Been there, done that. (Iraq) Time to stop?...

Iran is not a threat to anyone and certainly does not need or is asking for a war with the worlds self appointed policeman!...

Are aluminium tubes the only evidence of Iran stepping up its nuclear threat to America?...C'mon buddy, you've got to do better than that if you seriously want to retain any credibility at all in the eyes of the world...

Maybe if America stopped their outrageous monetary contributions (the largest sector of their 'foreign aid' program to any country in the world (to hell with the starving millions in Africa) and arms to Israel there would be no problem?...

Hoo nose?...I don't, do you?...

The US will never criticise Israel or stop funding it. They don't care about atrocities or war crimes. They are of the same ilk. And they care nothing about hunger in the world - they don't care about hunger in America far less Africa. If Capitalism cared a jot about humanity it would abolish itself. But it won't because it doesn't. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. That's the way they like it.

David I realize you and Ahmadinejad both either missed history class or are competely delusional - perhaps both. Just this week:
TEHRAN (Reuters) - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called the Holocaust a lie Friday, raising the stakes against Israel just as world powers try to decide how to deal with the nuclear ambitions of an Iran in political turmoil.

"The pretext (Holocaust) for the creation of the Zionist regime (Israel) is false ... It is a lie based on an unprovable and mythical claim," he told worshippers at Tehran University at the end of an annual anti-Israel "Qods (Jerusalem) Day" rally.

"Confronting the Zionist regime is a national and religious duty."

Of course old Ahmadinejad is just a sweet pacifist who didn't actually torture, kill, and imprison hundreds of people who happened to point out that he stole the recent election. He just sent them on a vacation cruise.

Speaking from a Nation that has rejected Nuclear Weapons (New Zealand), my two cents worth - USA, Israel, Britain, France, India, Russia all have Nuclear power and Nuclear Weapons (It seems that One follows the other only in the minds of those who possess the weapons themselves). There are a few countries that manage to NOT have Nuclear Weapons even though they have Nuclear Energy -

And YET the paranoia of the "cold war" lives on in a new form (It's called "Terrorism") - But most of the nations that already possess Nuclear Weapons would probably have been called "Terrrorists" at their own inceptions -

They mostly all carry on clandestine international acts of sabotage (read "terrorism" , , subterfuge and propaganda) by their own "Intelligence Agencies".
Then they wonder why other nations feel they need to arm themselves as a desense against them...

Betsy Reiss, was that the same Aegis system on the USS Vincennes that shot down the Iranian Airbus and killed 290 innocent people in Iranian territorial waters? Ooops!!! They said. We thought it was a jet fighter. Great capability! Or was it shot down deliberately? Well, let's see. The Commanding officer and other officers were promoted. Doesn't sound like a mistake. So if it the capabilities are as good as you say then they must have known they were committing an atrocity; one more to add to so many the US has committed since it was founded that it would keep the International Criminal Court busy for a hundred years. The greatest threat to world peace is Israel followed by the USA, according to a survey about a year ago. So take that sponge out of your head and start thinking. Why does the US need 11 aircraft-carrier task forces? Why does the US impoverish it's citizens by spending more on weapons than the next 25 nations combined? Why does the US maintain 1,000 bases in 130 countries around the world where it has strategic interests? The USA is an Imperial Power that exploits and oppresses people anywhere it sees resources it wants. Democracy or dictator? Never mind, as long as they don't interfere with American interests.

"Of course old Ahmadinejad is just a sweet pacifist who didn't actually torture, kill, and imprison hundreds of people who happened to point out that he stole the recent election"

Many Iranians of the opposition made this claim, which has not been proven. Some also incited or participated in massive protests/riots that were sometimes violent. Under these circumstances, there was a need to restore order, and evidently arrests were made (rightly or wrongly) for this purpose. But what evidence is there that hundreds were tortured or killed, just for 'pointing out that Ahmadinejad stole the election'?

Just a quick question pertaining to the quotes attributed to Ahmadinejad:

Who translated his quotes?

Let's not forget the mainstream press continues to print a distortion of what he said a couple years ago about Israel, every single REPEAT EVERY SINGLE MAINSTREAM NEWS AGENCY along with all the people that quote things without researching never once questioned the fact that it was mistranslated by ONE person.

They all parroted one single person without making sure it was translated right and without making sure the translator and the people that person was connected to didn't have an agenda.

So, for all those people pointing fingers at Iran (or anywhere else for that matter), please realize these are huge issues and require RESEARCH and careful consideration before labeling someone as bad or dangerous.

Iran is a threat to no one...The U.S.A. is a threat to EVERYONE!...Who are the terrorists?...The country with the greatest nuclear weapon stockpile in the history of mankind and constantly at war with someone, or the country without nuclear weapons and is not at war with anyone?...

"Confronting the Zionist regime is a national and religious duty." I think this is a wonderful statement. If only the Arab world felt likewise instead of colluding with the Zionist terrorists. I have no truck with the Iranian government and the way it treats its people. Same way I have not truck with the American government that keeps men on death row for decades, executes in cold blood almost as many as does the Chinese govt.,keeps children hungry, denies people (mostly black) health care, lets people lose their homes while rich bankers whose greed has caused an economic collapse and all the other mega-rich of the the country live high on the hog and spends billions on arms and military bases and invasions and occupations of other countries - you know all these kind of things. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. No American has the right to criticise anybody under the sun. Read your history and not your mythology.

The US supports a government that has decreed that women can be raped by their husbands. Please don't give us any humbug about concern for Iranian women.
