Thanks Charles M.for forwarding, my friend. TY Lill for the article, as I did not know he passed. Yes, he was an excellent actor and a really nice person, I actually got to be his waitress once in the Hilton Hotel. He was with a table of 8. He ordered steak & wine..lol..that is memory of him...lol..he was still great & I still respected him. {not a good tipper though..lol.}
May he rest in peace, his movies will always run, and he never be forgotten.

I could care less if Heston died, he was a gun obsessed, republican apologist. He was old and had alzhimer's-however you spell it. And what was so GREAT about him?

Oh, please. the man was not a great actor. His mannerisms were studied and his choices overwrought. Just because he won an Oscar didn't make him a great actoreither. Plenty of hacks have won those for being in the right role.

He was politically correct in an era of great conservatism. Good looking perhpaps, but not a great actor.

Personally, i can't think of a single performance, including Ben-Hur, that holds up as anything more than over the top in an era of over the top acting.

It's no mistake that his star diminished over the last thirty years of his career. From the seventies onward he was no longer a major player in the entertainment business.

Great actor has gone..I have seen almost all his movies, and Ben Hur was watching so many times that can not even count..
But one curiosity
He was also big gun lover and had firm attitude that everybody has right to have weapon at home. If saw movie from Michael More - Bowling of Colombino, can see interview with C. Heston and his weapon collection at home..
I was so sad after sseing this..

All honor to dead..Yes, but still what we do till we live can not be changed by out death!

Honor to C. Heston, it is ok and I honor! Let him rest in peace!

But, generally can not agree with that so often used saying- Honour the dead. For should we honor than Hitler, for example..or some serial killer, or war and civilian criminals, and whole the bunch of bad people were living on this Earth..?

Well its an obituary, we aren't debating gun rights here, Its about the passing of a man many loved for many reasons. I don't block nor do I flag but please be kind and appropriate. Charlton Heston is deserving of honor and isn't in the catergory of a criminal. Please be kind and respectful, Most people who note this story would really appreciate that. None of us are without tarnish so its better not to talk to hastily of anothers shortcomings while they lived, I am sure we are all going through different levels of learning and growth during our lives here on earth and we will all pass away from here as Charlton Heston has, so now lets just note that hes gone, and many will miss him. If theres other things on your mind I am sure that theres a time and a place for that discussion too. Of course all opinion is welcome in any forum of mine, but please, once more use have good manners and be graceful.
Thats all, thank you, Lill

He was great favourite of mine and will be missed.
There will always be people who pass nasty remarks, old yes, it comes to all of us, but life is precious whatever one's age.
He was a lovely man and my thought are with his loved ones.
Thankfully due to those films we will still be able to see him.

Heston was a great actor, no doubt about it. Convincing in his roles, he will long be remembered. There are too many so-called stars today who will not have that privilege. Rest in peace, Charlton.

IF you 'could care less' Shawn k. olsen, then you should! Here are a few of 'what's so GREAT about Mr. Heston' by using the same technology you used To Be Rude, courtesy of Wikipedia, The New York Times and others, via Google.

In the 1950s and 60s he was one of a handful of Hollywood actors to speak out openly against racism and was an active supporter of the civil rights movement. During the civil rights march held in Washington, D.C. in 1963, he accompanied Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. calling him “a 20th-century Moses for his people.” In later speeches, Heston said he helped the civil rights cause, "long before Hollywood found it fashionable."

Initially a liberal Democrat, Heston later supported conservative politics and was president of the National Rifle Association from 1998 to 2003. Mr. Heston was always able to channel some energies into the public arena. In his speech at the association’s convention before his election, he trained his oratorical artillery on President Bill Clinton: “Mr. Clinton, sir, America didn’t trust you with our health care system. America didn’t trust you with gays in the military. America doesn’t trust you with our 21-year-old daughters, and we sure, Lord, don’t trust you with our guns.”

Call me old fashioned, or just call me old, but he was married to the same woman for 64 years - which used to mean something. Yeah, I know, today it just means 2 old people are miserable together! Okay, I'm done.

Almost! See what Charlton Heston had to say about the "Culture War" 10 years ago here: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Fighting_the_Culture_War_in_America

This man may have brought a lot of pleasure to people through his films, in which historic figures were Hollywood-ized beyond recognition, but he did a lot of harm as president of the National Rifle Assoc. Even after the Columbine shootings, he continued to rally the gun lovers. I remember the poor dad of one of the victims, holding a rifle, and telling the press, while fighting back tears, that the weapon was responsible for the death of his teenage son. Heston did a lot to prevent meaningful gun control laws from ever being passed in the US.

At least, he supported the Civil Rights Movement when he was younger.
