To Syd H - NOT YOUNG HEALTHY ANIMALS OF ANY KIND! There are many sources of meat from the slaughter industry to feed the lions! Do, then advocate culling exotic zoo animals to feed lions? That is Very Very sad!

So Maggie S, you think cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, and perhaps even horses should be raised (in ways that make them sick) and then killed/slaughtered to feed the lions?

What do lions eat in the wild?

You don't kill a young, healthy Giraffe because there's too many at a zoo and there's something else to feed the lions.

Well Syd H - what do zoo animals eat in the zoo? Usually leftovers from slaughter houses! You seem to have a very warped idea of zoo life and what animals eat there@! Lions in the wild act like lions in the wild. YOU DO NOT KILL HEALTHY ZOO ANIMALS TO FEED ANIMALS BECAUSE THE ARE "SURPLUS." Lions in the wild DO NOT TAKE THE HEALTHY - the prey on weaker animals and that is how healthy herds are maintained. There are many articles on natural balance - you should educate yourself! I am a wildlife biologist - with an MS and working on a PhD so I can guide you to some educational resources on ethics of animals in captivity as well as the dynamics of wild ecosystems if you would like. You certainly could use some of them!

This animal IS NOT SICK! So where are you coming form re raising horses, pigs, cows, etc. to make them sick? That is really nuts! AND if you look at factory farming, most of those animals ARE raised in ways that they are very ill when slaughtered!

You have no idea what I know or what education I have (nor anything else about me other than your quick ASSumptions from only one sentence) so it's really quite cheeky of you to tell me that you believe you know so much more than I do. Some mighty ego there.

Certainly you are the one who advocated for feeding sick animals from slaughter to lions as I asked what should the lions be fed. If not healthy then what?

That's speciesism.

Just thought you might want to think a little.

Really, how natural is a zoo?

Lions & giraffes in Denmark? Seriously?

But I cannot make you think when you refuse to, nor can I apparently get a respectful answer to a serious question.

Carry on...

Poor guy - this inexcusable - they could have shipped this giraffe to another zoo or better yet shipped him to his native country and set him free. What a bunch stupid jackasses!

Noted! But can only now be used as a boycott to this terrible place called the Copenhagen zoo. as this poor baby was slaughtered after all. Sadly, even with many other zoo's offering to take this precious soul to their zoos /sanctuaries. This demands a just punishment for the individual who allowed for this to take place and this zoo most definitely needs to be shut down so A petition should be started for both actions!

Apparently it's too late. There are news items out there that state this has already been done. Or, is there another young giraffe they want to kill?

It's too late, the zoo director was hellbent on having Marius killed so they could feed him to the lions & other carnivores. What a jerk.

This healthy, young giraffe HAS been killed, and following a public autopsy, he was then fed to the large cats. His mother was only bred in the first instance, so this zoo has a money-making baby to show off to the public. He was destined to DIE before he had even been born. Just another profiteering, money-grabbing exercise exploiting the innocent and voiceless. What will this zoo do next for publicity and greed, breed elephants and rhino and sell their tusks and horn to Asian countries for quack medicine, breed tigers and bears so their bones and body parts can also be made into bogus potions, how about breeding fur-coated animals that can be skinned alive and their coats made into fur garments. Utterly despicable, but hey, lets put money, greed and profit before animal welfare and treatment. Shame on ALL the heartless, soul-less cretins that work in this place.

Such a shame, a young beautiful giraffe, something has to be done about this place, they had offers from other zoos to take him. This is just heartbreaking!!
