It appears as though because this guy is now an ex cop, he is about to get special treatment! Garnett contends that he has not prior record, but, it is well know that he has been disciplined for excessive force and a wildlife officer stopped him from poaching a deer!

This crooked cop was convicted of 9 counts, 4 of the felonies, and he should receive a penalty just like anyone would! The trial and convictions were nice window dressing fore re-election, but, THE PEOPLE OF BOULDER WILL NOT BE VINDICATED WITHOUT PUNISHMENT!

Please e-mail Garnett sgarnett@bouldercounty.org and tell him that felonies deserve jail time even for disgraced cops! Get justice for this magnificent Elk, Big Boy, who was illegally and cruelly slaughtered by this arrogant cop who used the power of his badge to do this and now may get away with it!

Is this the US? Or Animal Farm?
Abuse of one's status and role in Law and Order is totally unacceptable. That life for a cop in the penal system is particularly dangerous is cause for concern - but falsifying evidence is criminal, pay the price of abusing the system.

I hope everyone will submit these comments to DA Stan Garnett sgarnett@bouldercounty.org. There may be a petition coming, but, for now, we need to let Garnett know that this is unacceptable! Political window dressing at the expense of the public is wrong as is killing this animal!

Troubling facts emerging here, With no jail time this could have been plea bargained. AND why wasn't it? Why the expense and trouble of a trial? Because it is a high profile case, evidence overwhelming, and DA Garnett is running for State Attorney General!
So - a big conviction that Garnett says is for the people - BS, but not consequences for the criminal cop and nice window dressing for a run for the AG spot.

Also at some time in the future, these charges could be withdrawn, Carter's record expunged, and he could go on his merry way and be a cop again. Maybe in Wyoming, Montana or Idaho! NONE of this was done for the elk or the people!

Noted and email sent. Most prosecutors hesitate to send ex officers to jail, because they view it as a virtual death sentence, since prisoners already there HATE policemen. However, if you do the crime, you have to be prepared to do the time.

Great News! Like the commenter in the article said, it is rare that an animal gets such justice in court. I would also add that his name must be Officially changed to be forever deemed and monikored....Bubba Burpwad, the Village Idiot of Boulder. I awill write that he deserves maximum sentencing, no special treatment for being an ex-cop....If anything, they should pile on extra time for his abuse of power.

Thanks so much to all who are e-mailing DA Garnett! I have posted another article from ABC News and if you read the comments there they are also most for jail time. In addition, DA Garnett could have plea bargained this if he was not going to recommend jail time, but, he has political aspirations and that is the only reason he took the case - and trials are expensive too. So, indirectly, Garnett abused HIS power for his political future!

There is also a possibility that eventually those felony charges could be withdrawn and Carter's record expunged. Carter has a history of bad behavior and has never gotten much because "he has no previous record" because he keeps getting off! The elk did not deserve this. It was magnificent, bothered no one, no one bothered it, until Carter came alone. And Carter tried to use the power of the police to do this deed and get away with it, apparently which he has done before.

If you could Tweet this, put it on fb, that would be great! E-mail Garnett sgarnett@bouldercounty.org and tell him to recommend jail time for Carter! Let's overwhelm him! Get justice of Big Boy the Mapleton Elk!

Heartless...Carter shot "Big Boy" the bull elk as it grazed on fallen crabapples! He sent text messages to his buddy announcing "he dies tonight" He has been found guilty of nine charges (4 felony) and could face six years in jail at August sentencing. Carter abused his power as a police office and he knew the laws...he deserves jail time!
