this is so sad. I wonder why the problem is more prominent in Memphis with the police? I cant imagine coming home to find my puppy shot --and no one contacting them to tell them what had happened?? tragic--I am glad it is being investigated. Thank you Jeanette.

Thanks Jeanette for this story!

Franky, two of these shooting happening in Memphis is quite disturbing!

When I leave my house I leave my little rescue in my room and close a hall-door then set the alarm. Should a fire happen, or the alarm gets triggered it is always a FEAR of mine that she will get out, never in my entire life would I think that someone who is coming to take care of the alarm would shoot her! YIPES...now besides putting animals inside, I have to make sure that these people know DON'T SHOOT! The fact that my rescue was abused and if the alarm went off would really upset her, then someone coming through the door would make a disaster in the making.

Needed this story for myself, so sad for their pet, and what happened to the other, article said it ran off...frankly, I know they both wanted to run off after hearing all of those loud bells it upsets anyone.

Gotta wonder though, what is wrong with trying to tazer or handle these dogs another way in Memphis rather than just shoot them.

UPSET, YES!!!

Super news, thanks again!!! If I can green star for this one....People with alarms would be smart to take notice and be aware. Frankly, I used to put my "best friend" in a crate then leave and set the alarm, after this story, that is what I will be doing, that way, if something happens, my best friend should be protected, in fact, I have a better idea, set the alarm, put the animal in a crate, take a photo and if this animal is loose you have the time, date etc...if they say had to shoot the animal, gotta know I would fight them over that one with photos!!!!

Sadly, can't send you another star right now...you deserve it for this story...this really woke me up to what can happen when people are gone and pets are "home alone"...Totally Upsetting.

There just isn't any rationale to shooting pet dogs. Alarms going off or not. Ever heard of mace or a steak sandwhich? Gun happy badge wearers!!
Tks Jeanette
Lilith, petition already signed.

Thank you for this;

How sad. Guns are nasty. I don't care about the "It's the person who is bad, not the gun" bit! I've heard it a thousand times!

Thank you,
Nick

The dogs in this article are mine. Luckily, they are now recovering nicely. If you think the Memphis Police Department needs increased and improved animal control training, please sign my petition:

Can there possibly be anything else we should have to worry about!!! Such a sad story, a true one but sad.
You like to believe you can feel comfortable in your own home and your furry friends are safe at all times, well I guess this proves me wrong!!
Reading this made me think about when I would take my Jessa Bay into stores with me, I would tell them she was in training, she was working on being a hearing dog. A hearing dog hummmmmm, never did I have any manager say no you can not bring her in here. They really believed me… My baby went everywhere with me even work. I considered myself very lucky and I was grateful, even though I was the General Manager..LOL
Thanks Jeanette
