Researchers attending one of the world's major academic conferences 'are scared to death of the anti-science lobby'. This year there has been a palpable chill to proceedings.

Big Business only cares about money ..and if that means destroying whatever stands in the way and then it's ravished! Lobbyists make me sick ...and sicker are the Congress members who line their pockets ..courtsy of the lobbysists!

Does not surprise me. Now add this to the right-wing nutjobs refusal to fund public schools and real higher education (not that crap religious themed education), we have a public that are ignorant of their history and of their rights. Perfect drone lemmings for their corporate masters.

scientists are being muzzled by both big business and govt. they need to be able to share their research and findings. that's one way progress is made, through sharing.

If the original reports would be published, business would have to change that would cut into profits, so it's cheaper and easier to change research findings to much favorable reporting, and ignore the effects on the environment, wildlife, flora and people, profits are more important.

It really is alarming to see that people are totally oblivious to what is happening. It's even worse to see people who are actively trying to suppress and deny the truth!

It baffles me how all these idiots cannot see that their "now" actions will not allow all their families in the years to come to live without all the beauty and magnificent things WE have now that are slowly being taken away by THEM. All countries are to blame. They are too blind and stupid to think that what will their DOLLARS do for them them when there is nothing left to spend it on. How can they live with themselves!

If they have the big bucks to advertise, it's always important to ask the 5W's of Journalism: Who is it and who will it affect? What do they stand to gain. Why are they doing it and why now? When does it happen? Dig deep. Don't rely on the media, biased blogs and AstroTurf fake front groups.

Here in Canada, scientists who work for the federal government are not allowed to talk to the media until they've been given permission by the Harper spin doctors. By then, the journalists have missed their deadline, so it's effectively muzzling the scientists.

A sad state of affairs...

Please do not forget the anti-intellectual; movement too. Banish the thinkers among the people, that is the goal of big business.

OMG, how rotten can you get? That's what I mean when I say that Big Business has taken over the country. They are destroying everything meaningful in this world, and now they're working on science. They would keep us all in the Stone Age if we don't stand up and fight them. They are monsters and killers and polluters of the worst type. They care for nothing natural and decent, only for money and power. Now, you can see what they're doing with it. Will we let them keep this up?

You guys have made some very good points. Michael O., I didn't know about Harper's rule to suppress science journalism in the Canadian media. Suppressing truth, however, doesn't ever make it go away.
