The behavior's of the police speaks volumes of their concerns about a rape & assault victim .
They should charged with dereliction of duty !
I hope things change there for the good .

The Indian police often look the other way or do nothing for victims of the violence of rape.

The laws in India needs to be changed and the perpetrators of rape must be brought to justice
and sentenced into prison. Rapists should have their names published.

Apparently the crime of rape is a very common occurrence in India with many rapes going unreported. This is a shocking case and my heart goes out to the male friend and the young girl's relatives;More has to be done to stop this and those guilty must be made to suffer for their crime and made an example of, so justice can be been seen to be done by the rest of the world..

This is very sick. In all cultures, we need to respect all members of that society. Those that we disrespect are those that commit violent crimes such as this as they are telling everyone that they don't want to be part of this society. These 5 deserve death.

This was a sad day in Dindia. The laws need to be immediately changed so this type of violence doesn't continue.

May all that were involved in this violent act rot in Hell. No one should be subjected to such acts of violence. I wonder how these police that didn't act very quickly to the scene feel?...To me they too should feel like criminals to allow the victims to lie there like they did. They need to be punished for their slow acts of protection. How would they acted if it was their own sister, girlfriend or mother was lying there? I'm afraid of what I 'm thinking....I hope I am wrong. Thanks Judy

Since this rape incident, many others have occurred and reported by the press, some of the statements made by politicians are appalling, blaming the women for these incidents. Its the attitude that has to be changed, education is the answer, and the problem also lies in corrupt state and central governments and police, who until now got away literally with murder. Most hold public offices to serve themselves rather than the people. Thankfully, people are waking up and stirring things up.

Sadly, like many Middle Eastern countries, India is a male dominated society and women are often treated like second class citizens.
Hopefully the outrage this terrible crime provoked both in India and around the world will force Indian politicians, police and the judiciary to change their attitudes towards the abuse of women.
It's past time.

May Damini rest in peace :( Not a day passes without me sparing a thought for her. In church today, I prayed for her...
The worst crimes in the world are always committed by men. Why??

Still a long way to go, men and women are not equal yet. You can see that everywhere. One silly example is women's shoes; they make a noise (men defend that as sexy), just like game to be hunted. I don't think the "hunters" would agree to wear such shoes ! Or compare the ad's for cosmetic's, for men and women.....NO, WE'RE NOT EQUAL, YET !

Being a frequent visitor to India I have the following comments to offer:
The Police in India are the most corrupt on this planet
That this can happen brings shame on the whole of India: the goverment , and the patriarchal society and culture that predominates Indian life.
This got publicity because it happened in a major city. Rape is a common everyday occurance in rural India, where the police turn a blind eye for a pocketful of cash.

Give all six a fair trial then life in prison, after they're castrated. Oh, and fire the idiot cops.

women get raped on the street in Delhi, they get raped by football players in Steubenville Ohio....nothing is done about either by the police. A code of silence among observers ( "non physical" PARTICIPANTS!!) who do nothing but take pictures of the event!!!!! Where is the justice? Life inprisonment for rapists!!! At least castration...why should rapists be able to retain their sperm production when the women who have been raped are often disfigured, maimed, traumatized and exposed to disease during the rape????

It really seems like some men are functioning at a subhuman level, and this is prevalent in some cultures. I can't understand it. Thanks everybody for so many good comments.

India is just another misogynic society. Rape is a sport to many (not all) of the men there.
Because of public pressure maybe these animals will get the death penalty otherwise they would have got of with a slap on the wristI hope all 6 DIE.

Absolutely sickening! The laws needs to be tougher, mindsets need to be changed and all those involved in this horrific attack, even remotely, need to be punished to the fullest extent. Thanks Judy.

Also the fact that nobody stopped to help them says a lot about how cold, cruel and indifferent society there is and can be. And the police? Arguing about how to deal with the case or where to assign it? Give me a break, if that's the case then there should be a complete and thorough overhaul of ther criminal justice and police system. It's probably not likely that will happen but think about how much better their society would be for it.

The death penalty for beasts like this is the first step to stop rape in India and I don't hesitate to say, they should be tortured before and then let them die slowly. This is exactly what they did to this poor girl. And these bastards want to call themselves men!?!? No, they are the scum of the sewer.
My wife (for 40 years) is Indian and we feel very strongly about justice being done here to prevent this sort of barbaric crime is ever repeated.
