Remove Genetically Modified Ingredients From Infant Formulas - TAKE ACTION!

For years, Abbott Laboratories, a major nutritional products company, has been selling Similac baby formula products laced with Genetically Modified (GM) ingredients. The shareholders of Abbott are considering removing GMOs from Similac baby formula.

GMOs are prohibited in organic infant formula, but widely used in conventional formula. Many of the ingredients used in conventional infant formula are derived from crops that have been genetically altered to resist herbicides, so that weed killers that would normally kill or injure the plant can be sprayed more frequently. Many studies, including the recent 2012 Gilles-Eric Seralini study, show that GM products and the chemicals commonly applied to them are dangerous and caused cancerous tumors to develop in more than 70 percent of laboratory rats fed a steady diet of it. Regardless, GMOs continue to be used in American food products, including in baby formulas produced by Abbott under its Similac brand. This puts the long-term health of millions of babies at risk.

Gladly signed. The smallest and youngest among us need to be protected from the dangerous effects of GMO feeding. I hope GMOs are banned from being used in ALL infant formulas.

Thanks for signing and commenting, ladies. Mary, There's no doubt breast milk is best, but breastfeeding is sometimes just not possible for a number of reasons. There are milk banks in some areas, but I don't know how these are accessed, cost, etc. For infants who must consume formula, it is imperative that they are not being fed some experimental GM concoction.

I nursed my second two, but the doctors pushed me into bottle feeding the first. He was born early and small, and the doctor told me I could be killing my baby if I insisted on nursing, because we couldn't tell how much he was getting. I was young and naive, and scared, so I reluctantly went along. As it was, no formula they tried would make him gain weight for nearly a month. What a nightmare. He turned out fine, fortunately. Back in those days, doctors were really pushing formula.

Gladly signed. Noted. Many thanks, Judy! As a former La Leche League Leader, I believe "breast is best," but no infant should EVER be subjected to genetically modified ingredients.
