Tootsie" was one of the most successful movie comedies of the 1980s, but it left a serious impact on its leading man, who dressed as a woman for the role.

I saw this on TV. Very special. I don't want to give it away. Please whoever comes across this do watch. There was another post on C2 about a Dr. who came to a true empathetic moment that has stayed also with him.

I wonder if he had talked about this in the 80's if any one would have listened? We do it still and probably always will, we prejudge men and women by their looks, not who they are, rather what they look like.

Timing is everything, I too saw this interview and was very moved by it. So much truth about the unfortunate attitudes, that have prevailed for far too long.~ Many Thanks Judy!!!~

Thank you ladies, for reading and for your comments. I, too, thought this was an especially good article, on attitudes and values that are very deeply-rooted and harmful to people in our culture. Dustin Hoffman is very high on the empathy scale, and I do remember that story abut the doctor, Dandelion. Kit, if he would have talked about this in the 80's it probably would have had less effect on people, and some won't be open to it now, either. Dustin Hoffman, as a man is pretty brave in letting us see his inner thoughts and feelings. As you say, Laurie, timing is important. Lots of people seem to be under the manipulative spell of the advertising industry. Vast sums of money are spent making sure we feel unacceptable as we are, because then we will buy more products.
