STOP THE SELLOUT OF OUR COASTLINES U.S. CAMPAIGN OIL DRILLING

Dear Congress, Oil drilling off our coasts is just another Washington gimmick. Drilling won't help us with high gas prices -- it will only help Big Oil make more money. Congress must stop Big Oil's drilling plan. Sincerely,

Ocean Conservancy's Ocean Action Network
Tell President Bush how dangerous and short-sighted his plan is to start drilling in the ocean by lifting a 27 year ban. Our ocean drives the planet's climate and is the first victim of global climate change -- more drilling only guarantees its further destruction while doing nothing to solve our energy crisis. President Bush says America is addicted to oil, but his solution is more oil!

Call the White House now to tell him NO: 202-456-1414

Any oil discovered by drilling off our coastline will take 7-10 years to get to the pump, and it will not relieve the pain we are feeling. Even the U.S. Energy Information Administration agrees that opening up vast new areas to drilling will not likely affect prices until a decade from now, and then by just pennies a gallon. It is clear that we cannot drill our way out of this problem. Why would we open our coasts to drilling, putting our environment at risk and continuing our addiction to oil all while increasing the threat of global warming? It is up to you to tell the White House: NO DRILLING IN OUR OCEAN FOR OIL.

The oil companises have the gun pointed at our head - let us drill or we will raise prices (and we will anyways, but we are not telling you that now). Given the obsine profits they are racking in, it is niave of anyone to think that they will pass any savings along to us - any additional profit will go driectly into their bank!!!

This is no surprise to me at all for I see where he made a comment that he only had a few more months left, but a comment was made that I'm not done yet. So this must have been it just one more way for him to cause discruction to animals and peoples lives. I hope they get him and all his little cronies for war crimes, and they will wait and ss. Thanks Sophia I will sign as soon as I note this.

By contract the USA can never just stop [importing] and use domestic oil. If they back out, Iran will flood the market with next to free oil, causing the USA $ to crash.

I am disgusted over this farse of having to lift this ban. Hogwash. They are doing it, again. They are going to mess up our oceans more and release more gasses, that shouldn't be..., for greed and profit. I am going to need another cases of white candles with action on this one. Noted, and thank you Sophia.

Sophia,

Did you know that there is a petition out to drill ANYWHERE in America? Check out this news at http://www.care2.com/news/member/469277529/774632. The number of people who have already signed up is alarming. It may not matter what the next round of politicians are saying and doing if over 800,000 people have already signed a petition to "Drill Here. Drill Now".

Please note, comment and cross-post this article too. We need to initiate environmental solutions before it is too late.

I astounded that people are so blind. Yes we need to lower our gas prices, yes we need to become independent with our fuel sources, but drilling offshore thereby polluting our oceans and speeding up climate change, is not the way. We need to seriously fund fuel alternatives. And thanks Lyra for the link to the story Drill ANYWHERE. All people think about is their own personal pocketbook to fill their own vehicle. Why can't they see it's just a ploy to make more money for the oil companies???? We need a revolution in America. The people need to take back this country from a corrupt government as the Bill of Rights clearly state. Thanks Sophia.

No problem Karen. Newt Gingrich (sp?) is heading this petition and if you read his letter it reeks of government overthrow to replace it with a center-right-wing government. This is the state of things. Sure, it would be great to completely renovate our government, but to put in its place a government still bent on the oil industry is simply too much.

I hope that we can create a governmental body which relies on the basic principles of humanity. The glitch is that every human looks at this differently. No one want to loose their freedoms, but they are not educated enough to protect themselves and the land on which we all depend upon.

It is my hope that this community can brainstorm a way for everyone to get what they really want without destroying our country, or the planet for that matter. Please join us in the many discussions about how we can create a sustainable future for all life on this planet at the Earth College group http://www.care2.com/c2c/group/earthcollege.

I recently received a letter from my Congressman (who is Republican). He is not in favor of offshore drilling. He states in his letter that drilling in the ANWR would only give us 0.2% of the oil this country needs. Drilling is not the answer.

And to Sophia....sorry for the typo!!

Several here seem to be calling for a revelution. Well, maybe we need to get Obama in the Whitehouse?

Obama Criticizes McCain on Offshore Drilling

Barack Obama said Friday that presidential rival John McCain's proposal to allow offshore drilling "makes absolutely no sense at all" as he headed to Florida to put the Republican on the spot over the issue
