Increase Federal Minimum Wage in U.S.

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: Raise Minimum Wage US )

In the U.S., if you work full time and are paid the federal minimum wage, it is still possible for you to qualify for governmental assistance programs. A better solution would be to pay these people a wage they could live on. Please sign my petition.

The real buying power of the Federal minimum wage is at the lowest point it has been in decades. We need to at the very least raise it back to the buying power it enjoyed during the 60s. Great petition! Signed & Noted

Raising the minimum wage is only a stop gap measure in reducing the amount of assistance given. When I started working, minimum wage was 3.35 an hour, and the poverty level for a family of 4 was 10,650. Now, the minimum wage is more than double that, and the poverty level has also more than doubled, to 23,850. Raising the minimum wage raises the poverty level. It also raises the price of goods, leaving the beneficiaries no better off than before. But it also makes those earning MORE than minimum wage worse off. It's unlikely their salaries will increase at the same rate the minimum wage was raised, so they watch their buying power decrease.

Lastly, raising wages HURTS employment overall. Raising minimum wage often means cut hours or jobs lost, so those that get the increase might be worse off. Again, that doesn't get people off assistance...

Antonia Cabal, you could not be more wrong. This petition is right on point as to why we must have a raise in the minimum wage and it does a very job explaining why it must be raised and what will happen as a result.

Antonia Cabal you are completely wrong on this one...just my opinion. Your reasoning is flat out wrong, and the past 30-40 years of working in America proves it...unless you've never worked for minimum wage, then this petition won't make any sense and you probably don't have a clue.

Let's see, now.
Who doesn't want the minimum wage raised?
Could it be the wealthy?
Could it be the Teapublicans, even those who aren't wealthy?
How dumb can you be?
