Thank you Beatrice and thank you Ria for creating the petition.Signed about an hour ago.Shame on my country for the gassing the geese.Thousands died already on the isle of Texel. They must stop the gassing immediately, the more humans mess up nature, the more nature loses it's equilibration.

And what are "gruesome wild geese?" "But do you know how gruesome wild geese are being handled on Holland? Honestly - have someone read your posts before you send them out into the world....

Wow - I'm sure I'll get slammed for this - but you all are really uninformed. First of all, CO2 gassing is the humane Veterinary-approved way to euthanize animals. CO2 gas is the same thing that we emit from our lungs as waste, and it's what trees use to respire. It doesn't hurt the environment. Geese populations are on the rise world-wide because of human activities - habitat modification, increased agriculture, and extirpation of natural goose predators. Large goose populations are a danger to aviation, destructive to agriculture, and crowd out other species (including threatened and endangered ones). So rather than signing some uninformed petition, why don't you focus on trying to fix the reasons that got us in this mess in the first place? Also - relocating the geese is pretty much out of the question - it's cruel to the geese and it is how massive disease outbreaks (such as avian influenza) occur. Relocating animals or signing petitions only makes you feel better, it doesn't actually solve anything.

Maggie dear, check Partij voor de dieren, page also in English, there you will find how well informed we are, and before you comment check your facts, because there were 6000 geese killed 3 months after the breeding season, they could have done that before geeslings were born. AND WHY ISN'T YOUR PROFILE ON, if you expect a slap on the wrist for being nasty, don't hide.

Maggie, focussing I would say get the intensive farms away from Texel, those farms are grazing fields for cows, that get slaughtered to feed people.
That is the issue. Texel is a very small island, sanctuary to birds. Aviation, carbon footprint. Crowd out other species, inbalance human made. Avian influenza, again men made by intensive poultry farms.
We are talking about the same issue, and that is why I think your reaction is nasty, humans first and animals last?.
Holland kills first and talks after. One of the worst animal protection policies I know of. A huge agricultural political lobby and all animals lose out all the time, fur farms, test animals, bio industry, pets, wildlife. No sanctions for animal abuse whatsoever, just a fine, that is liberal Holland, where money talks, not the likes of us.
Therefore get informed before you boycott this issue, because it is you who doesn't know what your are talking about, if you would have taking the time to read upon this problem in Holland you would have beeen informed, but you are not.
Buddies with people who put themselves first would be silly, because I put animals first.
We need votes, not a boycott.

Maggie, not to have the last word, because I don't mind a fair discussion, there are some people in Care2 who love to destroy what we are fighting for, and I will keep track of those people and inform Care2 accordingly.
I hope you are not one of them, but I will befriend the enemy to avoid people upsetting hard working petition writers for a good cause.
This little hobby of ours is costing lots of research and time and upsets. I don't gain anything with this, only the hope that we can save what is still alife, in all fairness, this world sucks.

Hilke: go ahead and inform Care2. If you think that people disagreeing with you will destroy what you are working for, then it seems that you aren't very confident in the issues.

If you are against agriculture on Texel or elsewhere, I assume you only consume food you raise yourself? And if you are against killing animals, I also assume you are a strict vegan, don't wear leather at all, and also never fly in airplanes (those kill a lot of wildlife too). I also assume that all the coffee, spices, tropical fruit etc. you consume were raised on shade-grown organic rain forest farms. Good for you.

I'm also glad to know you spend your time researching my on-line activities. You never know what I'll do next! Who knows who I'll disagree with!!

you still miss the point Maggie. You are not the first who tries to undo what somebody is trying to build up. I don't care about your on line activities, didn't you expect somebody to react, you said so in your 2nd message. You are part of Care2, your comment made me want to know who you are and why you came out like that. If you don't like that why are you with Care2. I'm dutch and know what is going on on in my country, and I protect all the votes we can get, it all adds up for a bigger picture. Maybe one day we can put dutch animal abusers in jail after bashing a beagles head in with a hammer because it was shedding fur, instead of a fine of 500 euro's. In the states these people go to court, in Holland they don't. And that is what we are fighting for. And as long as the dutch government chooses to look away, we will be there to gather votes and hand in signatures from all over the world to expose them. Is that so bad, why are you so angry when I try to talk sense into you. Or do you agree with animal abuse full stop. Tell me, I'm curious now

Am not going to pay attention to it,anymore.
Heard enough crap from the "rulers" of the world, didn't came here to listen to some more!!

Maggie, are you one of those people for whom fighting for a good cause is no good unless itīs all or nothing? Do you have to live in a cave and only eat naturally-growing grass in order to do SOMETHING for the world? So if someone writes an important, urgent letter to someone to do something about cruelty, for example, you have no right to do it if youīve written it on non-recycled paper? All or nothing? Cause then letīs all sit down and watch cruelty and wash our hands, cause the simple fact of turning a computer on makes us guilty of contributing to global warming! Iīm a vegan, I like to do as much as possible to avoid the suffering of ANY creature, but that doesnīt mean that I will shun my vegetarian friends because they eat dairy and eggs and perhaps wear leather, as at least theyīre doing SOMETHING, better than nothing, at least they donīt eat meat or fish, and to me thatīs worth something, and this applies to many people, Iīm only giving the vegan/vegetarian example but there are many other examples of people whose grain of sand is contributing to something good, so please donīt reply with more examples cause weīll be there till the cows are free (my version of till the cows come home). I donīt see why you have to knock a petition to try and save animals when whatever the situation is (geese being dangerous for planes or whathaveyou) has been caused by HUMANS to start with. And please donīt knock someone who communicates VERY WELL in English and who speaks more languages than you could ever attempt to (Hilke is multilingual and very well travelled), just because something sheīs written might not be perfect. Weīre all in a hurry here, and are more interested in getting the message across than in writing in perfect grammar or spelling. And believe me, Iīve seen many, many messages from native speakers of English written appallingly, but I wonīt knock them, as thatīs not what Iīm here for. We all try our best to help here, no matter what country weīre from or what are mother tongue is.

I donīt really know why Iīm wasting my time with this to be honest, but it got to me that youīre knocking Hilke for trying to help animals.

So, I've been looking at the site from the above link that is supposed to give me all the answers to my questions. The site is translated into English by a computer program (bablefish). It could really benefit from having an actual person proof-read this site, because it's fairly incomprehensible. I was looking to see if they suggested alternative methods for dealing with goose problems, and they gave this solution:

"He calls as an example the ganzenproble
matiek in Giethoorn. There race-delicate must
the geese weghouden from the farmer country.
In April as the kuikens not yet are possible vlie-
gene, follows the geese massively from
tuurgebieden the farmer country.

There they with eiwitrijke the grass country bald and
to trample on it.

The agrariërs around Giethoorn suffer there
by, just like at the Texelse farmers,
increasing degree damage.
For the of 60 centimetres high offers
Giethoorn the solution."

I sort of understand what they're saying, but this really doesn't help your cause. This website seems to want the rest of the world to weigh in on this goose issue, so why don't they make it comprehensible to the english-reading population? Hilke encouraged me to look at the website to see how well-informed this group is, but I can't actually find any scientific backing to their claims. Did anyone else actually look at the website?

And Hilke, why are you now Michael Eitner?

Also, Alicya Lima, you made a comment that I don't have the right to have an opinion on this issue because I don't like in Holland. But you seem to be fine with people from other countries who *agree* with you signing your petition....interesting.....

Maggie, since I cannot translate a whole website, the alta vista translater was the best I could do.
Don't you have anything better to do than argue in here?
If you don't like my petition, or geese, get lost please and go fight somewhere else.
All I'm trying to do is stop the horrible killing of geese that's taking place all over in my country, I'm here for the animals.

maggie, when you read the letter of the petition the link at the bottom of the page gives you the information in english. Furthermore, I'm only with care2 until I've solved a couple of things concerning animals wellfare. After that I will cancel my account with care2.
This will also be my last public message.

I'm glad a petition to help the Greylag Geese went up and I hope the Dutch responsible for the massacre listen up and listen well because many in Holland are angry about this and opposed it (my aunt and many others). I also sent a scathing letter to the municipal authorities in Texel as they were the most egregious killers of the Geese. Disgusting.

Petition signed, article noted!
