Good grief, who thinks this is sport?? Arrrgh. Sent an email with love for Ireland but regrets about this - yeech. I hope we have helped bring this to a screeching halt. Sheesh.

Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I've been to Ireland several times and the beauty of your country and kindness of the Irish people were so overwhelming that I carry them with me still. I expect to return to visit over and over as I've made many friends there and have simply fallen in love with the place.

I would like to take just a moment to share I concern I have about an activity called Ferreting. It is so brutal, cruel and vicious that it not only seems completely uncharacteristic of the Irish people, but entirely out of place in this century. Ireland has become a focal point of new technologies and high tech production; I remember the Intel plant and also the Intel and Ireland joint efforts to clean up a river there. I would hope that the perception that Ireland wants the world to have is one of progress and goodness rather than one of violence and brutality. I am respectfully appealing to you to please ensure that a ban on ferreting is included in the new Animal Health & Welfare Bill. I hope that the viciousness of this unjustifiable blood sport is never again a blight on the face that Ireland presents to the world. In addition, cruelty is not a trait that any society can afford to tolerate, much less condone. When cruelty becomes acceptable, cruel behaviors only escalate and the most vulnerable are those most at risk, but everyone is in danger from people who have learned to enjoy the brutality and violence.
