The line of towering wind turbines stand motionless on the ridgeline above Interstate 70 in central Kansas, Y-shaped silhouettes amid the swirling snow.

Very interesting, Phyllis. The unemployment rate has gone nuts here, too. I hope that ehey pay a living wage.....

Last year, wind farms installed almost 3,200 turbines, boosting the nation's wind energy capacity by 45 percent and cranking out an additional 5,200 megawatts, or enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes for a year. The industry, which now accounts for a little more than 1 percent of the U.S. electric supply, expects to repeat that surge in 2008.

This is such great news!
We MUST find a solution to foreign oil
dependency before this country collapses.
The Bush mis-Administration has been spending
$12 billion every month in Iraq, but what if
that same amount had been spent on an emergency
program to find a renewable power source?
We'd have the answer by now, but for the fact
that George W., his daddy, and all those around
them are owned by Big Oil.
Wind power is definitely one way to go, and it's
wonderful to know the industry is growing as
quickly as it is.
Thanks, Phyllis!

Just wondering what ever happened to solar power? Wind power seems to require so much more, and as the news story mentions it threatends wildlife (esp. Birds). However sun power (solar panels, etc.) seems to be a better answer IMHO. I like bringing new jobs to our sore economy though. Would be nice if there were not so many lost jobs. FOr instance the meter readers of our area are no obsolete (LOST JOBS GALORE) due to the recent switch to COMPUTER read meters UPGRADE! :O( Seems a tad depressing for every 1 positive there are several negatives. So far Solar seems most postive though. Don't you agree?

I have noted and will pray for commonsense to prevail in the training up of students before they have looked into other career opportunities that are more fitting to their qualifications and will benefit them more longterm.
