Slaughterhouses are some of the most controversial industries in the United States. But whether you are an animal lover or just enjoy eating chicken, cuts to the number of slaughterhouse inspectors will result in drastic problems, from animal rights

Thanks or sending this to me Jim.
This is outrageous!
We have to work toward stopping factory farming....not making it easier for the USDA to poison us while continuing with the cruelty!

Promoting local organic humane farms will help...but we all have to keep screaming with all our might!
I'd rather see the government make cuts to grants for stupid research about the sex life of frogs and ridiculous things like studying brain freeze and realizing that people who have migraines get brain freeze from gulping cold substances too fast! ......how useless is that?....... and there are plenty of other excesses and wastes that could be cut.

DON'T MESS WITH OUR FOOD!
To help clean up our food supply....here's a link to my petition:
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/clean-up-our-food-supply/

Petitions don't do any good unless people sign them so they can be heard!

Much of the problem with American slaughterhouses could be eliminated if all the slaughterhouses were required to be open for inspection by the public on demand. In countries where anyone can walk in a slaughterhouse and inspect the facility, slaughterhouse owners get quite motivated to make conditions for the livestock as humane as possible, to make the processing into meat as efficient and quick as possible, and to ensure that their facilities are extra clean and sanitary.

Unless they're going to quit slaughtering animals, they certainly don't need to lay-off slaughthouse inspectors!! We're having enough problems with foods that are poisoned for one reason or another, we don't need to cut-down on about the only safety-net we have!
Thanks Jim.

The food industry from the importance of treating animals humanely in this most vulnerable situation and also from the perspective of the health of the consumer cannot afford to fire inspectors at such a cost! This isn't an area to cut corners- food safety is very important and so is animal welfare!

Thank you for posting this important alert. There needs to be total and complete transparency when it comes to slaughterhouse procedure and how the animals whose lives are taken get treated when they are killed.

Glass walls....are what we provide here in the Care2 global animal welfare community...

Glass walls...are what citizens deserves when it comes to learning about and understanding the fate of their food...the fate of slaughterhouse animals.

I am sick to my stomach at the cruelty in factory farms. It is just disgusting. I cannot believe that on top of the cruelty, they are also sexually abused. MY G*D!! What has the human race come to!!! And now they want to fire the Inspectors. NO, THIS CANNOT HAPPEN. We need these Inspectors and in fact we need the cruelty of putting these animals in confined cages to stop and go back to the way it used to be and let them roam free. STOP, STOP, STOP IT NOW. I know there are other countries that do horrific things too, but everything I seem to read is happening in America. I am digusted by it all.

USDA = Agri-business' TOOL and PATSY for decades now, signing off on any approval Big Biz wants for GMO crops, poisons and toxins to kill other species, and it even acts as exterminator-for-hire when Biz complains about wildlife as "pests" by cruelly trapping or poisoning animals by the MILLIONS each year. This agency, regardless of which political party is in party is and has always been a JOKE.

Yes Ben, it feels good to be a vegetarian. However, I fear that everyone else will be sickened and not only will the livestock be fed who knows what and filled with pharmaceuticals even more so than they already are, but the medical insurance companies and big pharm will have a hay day with human illness as a result of their insanity. See a connection anyone???

Thanks Jim.. Noted and signed. When you think of how hard people try to stop people seeing what is going on behind close doors, you realise the extent of the horror that is they are trying to cover up.! So much of the public would be more outraged if they knew what was going on, as most meat eaters have no idea what cruelty has brought that meat to their plates! That is why it is SO important to make sure that there are as many inspectors as possible and that undercover activists should not be penalised by the law, as they are stopping so much digusting cruelty and exposing this horrible trade to the public We MUST do all we can to stop this form of animal abuse My heart is heavy as I write this, knowing that at tis very moment, there are animals out there suffering in the most terrible manner.

Firing the inspectors has to be the most insane thing I have heard of.. These animals need someone to be their voice and at least the inspectors were trying to do just that.

If anything, we need more inspectors to tell the world how cruel the animals are treated and to check the lines for problems the employees miss.

"Studies by the USDA itself have shown that employees at slaughterhouses miss signs of fecal contamination ninety percent of the time. Sixty four percent of the time, employees miss signs that carcasses are defective in some way, meaning that oil, bile, lungs and trachea parts would still remain on the birds if inspectors didnít catch them. In one case, one hundred percent of turkey carcasses found were defective, and none of the employees bothered to take notice."
