You are so right Kathy, if we don't stand up for ourselves we certainly can't expect many of our fearless Leaders to do so. Many of them are the ones trying to slash our throats and I'm grateful that the Democrats in Wisconsin did what they did and stood beside the workers and the people for a change.

An interesting concept, this virtual march and I'll give it a go. My feeling is tho that if the 'Publicans are getting this brazen about stepping on the middle class that it's gonna take something with a lot more impact to make them change course. I have long said that there are many, many more liberal leaning folk in this country then conservative, but that a lot of us just sit silently on our hands while the Conservatives do all the shouting. Let us hope that people have awoken and we "won't get fooled again" because now it is clear that Republicans/Conservatives DO NOT Stand with/for the people.

I signed this yesterday.
Dave C., you are absolutely correct. If they are successful in Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio and other states by greatly weakening unions they will only be embolden. Next.....they will pass laws and change the Constitution to make it easier to control this nation. Some of the law changes they will pursue:
The only people allowed to vote will be those owning land.
Do away with - or rolling back - the minimum wage laws.
Privatize Social Security.
Privatize Medicare.
Repeal DADT.
Repeal hate crimes legislation.
Repeal discrimination laws.
Repeal all Federal gun background checks.
Rewrite the history High School text books. These will make no mention of contributions of minorities.
Make scientific facts only theories in the High School text books.
Friends, you may think that some of these ideas are extreme and will never be pushed into laws. Let me remind you that each of these has already been mentioned by candidates on the right. The references about the High School Text Books are due to the hearings that were held by a state board in Texas. The "conservatives" wanted to eliminate the names of Thomas Jefferson, Cesar Chavez and others from the history pages. The State Board of Education in Texas even considered having a rewriting of history about the "Civil War" and the fight to end segregation in the U.S.
My hope is that we can withstand this assaults by the republicans until the 2012 elections. Hopefully, a lot of democrats will defeat the far right from the Courthouse to the White House. BUT this will mean a lot of time and effort.

On the writing of history Robert T. you are so correct, the victors get to write the history. Just as an American Indian that fact, they'll tell you. I so agree with what you said, this is an outright onslaught onto the very lifestyles and lives we have come to enjoy and appreciate. If we do not take this stand, we will finish our lives living in a very different world and our children and theirs will loose all that our ancestors fought for.

Let this incident in Wisconsin be an awakening call for all Americans. The Republican Party is the enemy of the people. Throughout the years they have attacked everything from social security to minimum wage to planned parenthood to workers rights and benefits. The list is endless. I SO PRAISE THE GOOD PEOPLE OF WISCONSIN. Let their dedication and commitment to the human rights of this great nation be an inspiration to all citizens.

Politicians do not listen until people take to the streets, it seems. Or in this case, the virtual streets which is the Internet. Reminds me of the protest days of my youth: anti- Vietnam War, race discrimination, women's rights were some of the issues that needed street airing. Many complacent American citizens need to get up off the couch & become activists again. The "American way of life" is being taken away by those who already possess more than they need for many lifetimes. Are we going to put up with this or are we going to do something about it? I signed gladly; at least I STILL can!!!

I have been on both sides of the fence. I was amployee, belonging to a union, and a business owner with employees. No one should ever have their bargaining rights taken away.

Non US. Usually I would sign this on your behalf but someone at my 'US address' might wonder why they received a bumper sticker. :-) This is not only for Wisconsin, but for the entire US and hopefully followed with a global uprising for the betterment of 'we the people' and not before time! Once a pessimist, now an optimist.

Gladly signed! I come from a family who were proud union members. My father began as a child laborer in Southeastern Missouri during the Depression. He went on to becme a well-paid mechanic at Kellogg's as a result of being in a strong union. My maternal grandfather was involved in the birth of the union movement, and became business agent for one of the unions for the rest of his career. My mother remembers her family being threatened kuring that time, having the family's phone tapped, and being called Communists when the corporate interests were trying to suppress the unions. My grandmother was a union member as well. evenI remember attending some union meetings when I was little. My family didn't purchase anything made by nonunion companies. Both of my exes were union members.

Seeing what has become of the unions, starting with Reagan crushing the Air Traffic Controllers. makes me sick. The unions are the only answer to keep some power in the hands of the workers. Thanks Dandelion, and all you supporters of ths cause!

Thank you and your family for helping the American workers around this Nation to make a living wage, have vacation time, and a host of other benefits that the owners of business do not want to share with its workers willingly. They would have us all as complete slaves if they were allowed to do so and that is a fact.

I do remember Reagan and the Air Traffic Controllers......that was the wake up call then that not enough people seemed to understand at the time, or care enough to understand.

We sure do have to stick with the Americans of Wisconsin. They were the first state to pass the 40 hr week and workmans comp.
That Gov. Walker is a big fat Rat. The state had money until he gave it away and then said it had a deficit so he could must the unions. That was really what he was after.

Ever wonder why the only leadership direction taken by Republicans is to retreat into the past? Petition signed with gusto! Dang right I'll stand beside the public workers of Wisconsin -- and I'm a small business owner, not a union member. I value and revere what unions have done for this country. It's one of the positive influences on our ability to have a strong middle class. Without unions, we'd still be just 2 classes: rich and poor.

These Republicains that keep trying to take and take and take have to be stopped. I have been saying it for about a year now and I don't think anyone has picked up on it. I know I have yet to hear any media interview ask them. That is; Why are you not cutting from the top down? Why are you not taking a salary cut as you are asking us to do? Why do you turn in your "company credit card", "company car", etc? Why are you our elected officals not setting the example you want us to do. Instead you just take away necessary services to most of the American people. Your supposed to be a government that reflects us the people not a job that makes you rich for the rest of your life. Cut the BS and do your jobes. Stop making things like what is happening in Wisconsin political. You could not be more clear as to what you are doing. The Dems. get their monies from hard working people and the union not from the greedy corp. and pork like you the Reps. do. SO BACK OFF AND BALANACE THE BUDGETS THE RIGHT WAY AND THAT INCLUDES AND NEEDS TO START WITH THINGS THAT EFFECT YOU FIRTS!

What’s happening in Wisconsin is straightforward. Left alone, Wisconsin would have ended 2011 with a budget surplus of $120 million. Then Governor Walker signed two tax break bills for business and a health-care bill that reduced state revenues. Governor Walker then used the artificial deficit of his own creation to attack state workers.

State workers in Wisconsin have already accepted 16 unpaid furlough days a year and received no pay increases for two years. But they see the attempt to end their ability to negotiate contracts as an act of war. The threat to bring down the National Guard on protesters was not well-received.

In the end, this is more about union-busting and repaying campaign contributions than about balancing Wisconsin's budget.

Enthusiastically joined and shared! I am proud of the people of Wisconsin for standing up for the unions, and for the rights of all of us. It's interesting that Scott Walker received a lot of campaign money from the Koch brothers.

There are many great comments here. To Robert T's list of what the Repugs will attempt, I would add
1) Shut down public education
2) Repeal Roe v Wade, or restrict it with new legislation, as in South Dakota.

Thanks Dandelion! So many great comments here, so many "stars" I could not send. This is of the upmost importance and we cannot let Walker and his minions win this or it will continue state by state. According to Reader Supported News, Walker was heavily funded by the Bros Koch and of course, Murdoch. Ohio sounds like it's next up, stand together everyone and don't let them cross this line of freedom. You go Wisconsin I am there in spirit!

Collective bargaining: a great socialist idea. Odd that the unions did not come out to fight for the uninsured during the healthcare fiasco. Where was all that collective bargaining power then? Selfishly looking after it's own. We have our healthcare and the rest of you are not in our collective. Odd politics for public servants don't you think? Also odd that most Americans have to work until their 65 to collect pension benefits but not our collectively bargained public employees. How did we ever get into this situation? Who created this tiered benefit society for workers? Is the hamburger flipper of less worth? Is the fireman, teacher and policeman not paid enough? Do they work harder and therefore should retire earlier? I suppose I would be more generous with my support if they were less selfish with theirs.

Odd that your concern is only for those who are doing reasonably well within whats left the middle class but express no outrage at the excesses of those who wish to crush that middle class. Mr. 0, I assume you are a one hit wonder but if you have more, we would love to hear it. Such as where you got you info on Union involvement or lack of it in the health-care fight.
