Surface to Air Missiles Being Installed on Residents Roof to Protect Olympics

Residents, many of whom have young children, are upset that they were not consulted on the decision to install the missiles, which was made in secret by the government, the landowner and local counsil. They only knew of the plans when they got leaflets.

Don't know Kit, but it didn't come through on the back side so I can't copy and paste it here either.

This sends shivers up and down my entire body! Shaking my head at what we have resorted to!

This is also low income housing, so no wonder they were not even consulted. Only told by leaflets under their doors after the decision was made. I bet if it was filled with luxury apartments they would of at least been part of the process if they were even considered at all.

So, in the spirit of what the Olympics, air missiles have become part of this show of national unity.
Tell me again, why there could not be a moment of silence for peace, and understanding before they games start?

Very well stated Allan, we agree on this.

I haven't checked out the story yet, but I wanted to offer a suggestion. Create your comment ELSEWHERE, I use a floating "compose" from my gmail. Copy and paste. Then you haven't lost your work.

I swear by that suggestion Runatik. Write in Notepad..etc, rather than these windows, and save yourself some head/heart ache. I have wished in the past that I had followed this advise.

The nature of things to come? Does the UK have an eminent domain law? And, that's some pretty far out reporting Barbara. Hard to believe all that, but I know better than to disregard it as conspiratorial nonsense. I don't know if I'd feel safer with all that crap on my roof, or I'd feel like a target.

We need to send out love not more terror how can we ever think we can stop someone from hurting us by being ready to hurt them first. Let us all who want peace, to meditate on peace and love not bombs and more hurt. This buildup of military must stop. People are starving and sleeping on the streets and we take money to inflict more hurt instead of using that money to ease suffering.

Thank you Barbara and Parsifal for your additional postings. We need to all be FULLY aware, looking behind the curtain. If anyone thinks with all that has gone on in the last 10 years in particular, to be normal, for it isn't, the criminals are running the show, look behind that curtain.

It's madness. Has anyone considered what happens if you shoot a plane down over the centre of a city?

And the treatment of the residents of the tower blocks have been appalling..

I know Roger, is madness for sure. Save some people who are sittting in the stadium and kill a bunch more when the plane crashes over them in another part of the city. Or make the apartment tower a target and kill all the people that live there. I don't really see what their logic is, other than as Kit said, keep them fearful as a population can be told what to do more easily that way.

Same logic that they use to grope and radiate the American citizens at airport terminals. A bomber could just as easily stand in the line of the packed lobby and kill as many as going onto the plane. They don't have be at all searched before they reach the TSA employee.

Also they send our planes now out of Country for repairs, I do not know what standards they have for protecting our planes or who is hired to work on the planes. I think if everyone stopped flying until this foolishness was ended then the airlines would loose so much money that they would ask the TSA to stop doing this and bring our planes home to be repaired. But no one sticks up for their rights so it is crammed down our throats.

What a sorry and scary world we live in. I'm not surprised that they did not inform the residents. Hey, why should they? I'm sure by now with the way things are, they feel people accept all without question. No...they do not. Thanks Dandelion and Parsifal for the link and thanks to Barbara. I always thought the Olympics was about peace.

If there is any type of terrorist attack at the Olympics what is most perplexing is that it will be done in the name of whoever the group sponsoring the attack worships.

If the residents won't be in danger, why were the missiles placed there? Another instance of governments doing what they wish and letting citizens cope as best they can.

From what I've read, the same thing was done for security purposes at the Bejing Olympics in 2008.

According to an article that appeared in the Guardian in April of 2012:

"The air defence system will be manned by fully trained, professional soldiers. It will be securely protected and it does not pose any hazard to residents. The system will be used to monitor the airspace and will only be authorised for active use following specific orders from the highest levels of government in response to a confirmed and extreme security threat."

I don't know whether the information provided to the Guardian by the government will help the tenants sleep any better at night, but I agree with those who feel that the tenants should have been consulted BEFORE the SAMs were installed. The lack of communication is appalling. They undoubtedly had a right to know, and their opinions should have been heard.

Very interesting article and comments! Thanks, Dandelion!

I heard from the television commentators at the Wimbledon finals that the changing rooms of the tennis stars are protected by the armed forces! There is mainly one thing that comes to mind: of what and of whom are the political and economic elite so fearful? Whenever they have gatherings, be it political, social, or competitive, then they need heavy arms to protect their members - from what or from whom? If they are so very right, honest, generous, and kind as they present themselves, why then be so scared?

Thanks Dandelion for making aware.

Noted & read the comments. For years London has had to be on top of all the bombings that have been threatened with. This is an extra security for them. They have been living in awareness is a better word than fear. But this has been for many years. Thanks Dandelion. Hugs.

Now maybe people will understand what NYC was going to like if the Trial of those connected to the fall of the Twin Towers would have happen here in NYC. The Police were turned into a full military assault team - air - land and sea. What a Wonderful World we live in!

Its interesting to see what folk in other countries think. Amazed that some folk think the Olympics is about peace... or even sport. IT'S ABOUT MONEY. Cant believe that Americans didnt get it!
The security: Almost certainly to reassure foreigners especially Americans, that it is safe here! Unless "they" know something we dont. The reasoning behind the SAMs is that they prefer to lose a plane and hit some residents when the plane falls on them, than kill thousands in a "9-11" style hit on the facility. Especially as those would be the people with money! But hopefully no-one will call their bluff. I for one am glad I am not booking any flights anywhere near London (or anywhere else for that matter) during the Olympics "season". But, you may not be aware, there is always in place the provision to shoot down ANY plane-- yes even your holiday jet-- if it seems to be deviating from normal flightpaths and does not respond to warnings. This being the case in UK it must surely be so in the US as their decision-makers are a great deal more paranoid than ours.
Regarding the comment about the site being on a toxic site, no, it was a run-down piece of wilderness which had been used for warehouses etc in the long-distant past, and was one of the few natural places left in London. (Note to those thousands of miles away who do not believe me: I used to live a few miles away.)When the Olympic committee took over, they caused a lot of unhappiness when they were unhelpful about allowing the CHAT organization to rescue the feral cats which lived there.
Regarding the friking and "radiation" at your airports, I do not mind the security stiuff-- although it is very annoying when they seem to enjoy pulling all your stuff out of your bag and so on -- and I don't regard a public pat-down as a frisk-- this all seems preferable to being on the same plane as eg a shoe-bomber. If people don't like this sort of thing, they do not have to fly.

Thanks Susan for your comment as a citizen of UK. Glad to know it wasn't put on a toxic site and a shame they wouldn't let the ferals be caught. Not sure where those poor kitties ended up, just moved on I suppose? Anyways our so called public pat down are a bit more than that over here, it is more like groping and some feel very violated. They can put their hand right up into your crotch area and under your breasts. If you can't go through the machine they have had the Elders even remove their diaper garments, and those who colostomy bags have had them spill out urine on their clothes and shoes due to their neglect in the search. Is true, many have chosen not to fly, just not enough to make them stop the insanity over here.

Yes, I know John, some are on the ground, which I think all of them should be on the ground. In peacetime none should be on someone's roof.

Hi Dandelion. .. Cats: There was a lot of protests and letters written. "They" would not allow the women from CHAT (run by former model Celia Hammond) to enter the locked gates, so the women had to entice the -- very wild and nervous of humans-- cats to come for food outside the gates, to be caught. A lot were rescued, but no-one can know how many did not come out, so would almost certainly have ended being killed when the bulldozers started work. The whole wild area was concreted over, except for the very manicured and "landscape-designed" park.
Groping -- sounds extremely invasive and nasty. But I am puzzled now because I have been to the USA about 15 times, sometimes also including the annoying "layovers" when you have to check in a 2nd time when you change planes, and so far I have only ever had a "pat down". Maybe because the airports had the machine that is said to show you naked (who cares!) Or maybe I have just been lucky.
I have had the officer who had pulled the batteries out of my camera then jammed them in so I had to take them out again-- after I had missed a few photo-ops not realizing she had done that -- she also had left a zip open on the front of my bag, revealing a spare tampon to the world! I hadn't realized you have to check all your property after they have gone thru it. I also once had a really rude girl who was sarcastic and insulting and actually tipped all my stuff out on the table in as rough a way as she could. When she found my little box with bracelets and jewellery in it she just went "Oh" and shut up completely-- she had obviously thought I had a gun! ( I didn't complain to anyone about her bad behaviour.)

I think you were lucky, and if you don't have any metal in your body due to surgeries or intentional piercings that is also a plus in your life. Included here is a list of the "reported" most agregious done by TSA. Although not limited to these sole reports, as I even had placed some stories here in C2 that are not shown on this link.

How a woman sick with cancer and in her final weeks of life, was trying to fly to her children in the north so she could be buried in the family cemetary. She was wheeled to the airport by her daughter she lived with here in the south, and the TSA was simply horrible to that 90 year old, frail, and sick woman trying to get home to die. I am disgusted by the actions of my fellow Americans that would treat each other and those who travel here from other Countries in such a disgraceful way. There are also many other stories of people who felt humiliated in their airline travel who are too embarassed and will never speak of it, or who felt well although they reached under my breasts at least I didn't have it as bad as someone else I heard or read about. Gee, so that should be a consulation? Here is the link if you care to look.
Outrageous TSA

I'm glad some of the cats got out, but gee could they have made it any harder for the CHAT people to do so. Like what were they going to hurt by going in and collecting cats before anything was done to the property? Imbaciles.
