Underground Sensation Earthquakes Related to Fracking

So now its not just our water supplies being permanently contaminated forever that we need to worry about, it is our homes being destroyed by earthquakes. Toxic lubricants from new wells free up and lubricate fault lines so they will slip.

Rachel Maddow does a nice job explaining this new environmental threat with fracking that communities face. I can now see the future of homeowners insurance going up for fracking insurance in addition to or now for the first time for needing earthquake insurance.

Rachel Maddow is telling it like it is - and I wish more people were paying attention. Here in NY our governor still is considering the possibility despite all the evidence of potential disaster :-(

Sorry Terry but we are not murdering our planet-our government and corporations are murdering our planet. I am really curious to see what happens after they have destroyed everything and want our help because their money won't be able to buy them help. Too bad all the good people have to suffer the aftereffects of their stupidity. Bless all who love Mother Earth.

Fracking is becoming the main cause of earthquakes.

We all need to get out there and tell these moronic corporations, companies that they are responsible of
the killing of our Planet.

Ty, Dandelion.

People in Longmont Colorado have it on the Ballot to Ban Fracking there.

Fossil fuels are not worth any of the destruction they bring on. Natural gas is not "cleaner" with fracking being used. Coal, NO. Oil in any form NO. We need not lose jobs, all workers in the fossil fuel industry can be retrained to work in GREEN technologies, like solar Both professionals and tradespeople. Also wind technology has some problems, they can work on solutions. Hydrogen technology, etc. etc. Let's move past that old argument of jobs being lost as the reason to continue destroying our Blue Beauty.

Noted, Thank you Dandelion.

Fracking has become a worldwide problem and must be banned. Was there something to sign here as some comments lead to believe? Here in NY the cuomo express is about to tell us to bend over and accept fracking. I am so tires of this Denocrat and this Obama administartion. They could kill fracking with one simple Presidential order!

Note how cautious Rachel is: the focus is on the injection of wastewater, not fracking itself. But as with nuclear waste, where to put something so foul & toxic ? There is no harmless place.

Sorry to be so late, I just read the abstract on this. May I say, "tell me about it...." I live on the Barnett Shale and now have a gas drill almost within site of my home. The rancher was FORCED into allowing the drillers onto his property. Most of these quakes are not large enough to cause any sensation of earth drift. They do cause nausea and building damage. My neighbor is an architect and has told me about many of jobs he has to do to repair office buildings and homes split and damaged by the quakes. This was, may be that should be repeated WAS a geologically stable area. We are just as ill informed about the possible health damages as the rest of the country. It seems logical to me that if the drilling is causing quakes then the FRACKING is not safe. Far too many home owners sold the drilling rights actually believing they will be wealthy from the royalties, DUH! If the drilling company is paying each of the home owners thousands a month in royalties who is paying the GAS bill?

We are stupid people. Instead of beginning the change over to sustainable energy we are still willing to kill ourselves and our children for OIL and GAS. Stupid can not be fixed.

I thought of you immediately Kit when I watched this air on TV. I felt it was very important to place on here. I don't know if the American people will wake up in time, they see the $$ and believe or want to believe that it's safe, no harm done, the Country needs you to do this. blah blah blah. And from what I understand, once you have a certain percentage of people sell out on this dream that will turn nightmare to them, then the rest of the people in the area have no choice, it is forced upon. So I assume that is what happened to the rancher you mentioned about, it being forced. One more of your rights flushed down the toilet. Yup, we keep getting Fracked, that is for sure.

Thanks for posting, Dandelion. This is beyond unconscionable. I first learned about it from the movie, "Gasland" and have seen Mark Ruffalo discuss this on many different shows. Also signed every petition against it that's come my way. Cheney got this type of fracking solidified during the Bush Regime because his company, Halliburton, had invented some new "thing-a-ma-jig" part to make it more cost effective to the company....while destroying the surroundings. Unfortunately, despite thousands outside the White House protesting a few months ago, the people's cries are unheard. Bill McKibbon and his group 350.org are the biggest group against fracking that I know of. They continue to forge ahead, and we should all support them.

Taking the large amounts that man has from the earth..oil,gas/shell,coal,water just to mention a few..it is only logical that in time, less than most now think probably, will most certainly do great damage to our planet earth systems. They are there..in the ground, for a reason..and making money from them wasn't the reason is what my bet goes on. Sooner than later the effects of all these abuses to our earth will cause us..mankind.. greater problems than the so called 'positives' for the good of mankind...by removing them in such huge amounts daily that we've been doing so ..especially just since the industrial revolution/age began .

I don't know how much more of this removal of each of them it will take before we see a multitude of major crisis happening all over the world ..related to 'nature'.,,,via mans doing. What I do know is that Mankind has become a cancer to our earth. We're killing the very sources that are a vital part of the maintenance/continuance of/for life on our planet.....
All the things I've mentioned aren't even necessary today..in our so called modern world. Many types of alternative energy available for each of them...and the only thing that keeps us from using them 100% are the Corporations that are behind the removal of each of the others...and of course the best way to help with their doing is is with ,none other than their bought and paid for Politicans.

That being said I close with : We have enough earthquakes here in Ca. as it is...so..... 'F' Fracking ! The frack'n insanitea of it means nothing but big trouble for our planet Earth !

Every time I read another post about the already proven hazards of hydraulic fracturing, it reminds me of the many commercials being run by Exxon Mobil assuring us that fracking is the wave of the future --technology to safely and responsibly unlock natural gas, an incredible energy resource. Perhaps these small earthquakes are earth's way of warning mankind of the dangers to come. Will it take a disaster of epic proportions before Big Energy stops trying to pull the wool over our eyes? How can these people live with themselves?

UK Fracking Firm Admits They Are Causing Earthquakes - "The hydraulic fracturing of Cuadrilla’s Preese Hall-1 well did trigger a number of minor seismic events."

Fracking causing earthquakes in England and Oklahoma
By Sarah Laskow
Natural gas fracking caused an earthquake in England. And a spate of quakes in Oklahoma. And while the idea that fracking for natural gas causes earthquakes has been floating around, these quakes offer stronger proof that fracking seriously messes with the environment.

Why worry about it. These Big Companies can be Trusted to do what ever is best to satisfy their Greed!

Ohhhh yes Dandelion thanks so much for this.... Ever since I heard of Fracking it sounded scary to me... My internet was down all week and I was glad to watch Rachel Maddow's show as well. This needs a lot more publicity. This is a very dangerous thing that they do. They will keep it up. It will take a lot to dent this dragon. But it must be stopped because it's insane.

I'm just waiting for them to frack the hell out of the New Madrid fault region of MO......they do that and everyone can kiss St. Louis goodbye and every other town or city along the faultline and the Mississippi river will change direction again. IDIOTS.

They are doing this for the sake of GREED and nothing else. Fossil fuels are finite and they know it. They do not CARE what the people of the nation think or feel or want. The politicians do not care either.....good luck writing to them, I've been doing that for years to absolutely no avail. Their palms are well greased by these greedy, envionment-killing, water-killing, air-killing corporate fascists and the people no longer matter.

So what if 'you people' can't breathe, can't drink the water or your homes fall into the ground.....we got ours and we live well away from the problems....they all make me furious and quite ill.

GREED!!! A piece of the American dream?

Seems to me that we heard about earthquakes in Ohio many months ago related to the fracking! Now these related to fracking! One of these days, mother earth is going to fart in a big way, and it won't be pretty!
