The Commission on Presidential Debates sponsors all mainstream presidential debates and executes debate contracts drafted by the Republican and Democratic campaigns.

Debate contracts contain secretive provisions that sanitize debates, disregard viable third-party and independent candidates, and prohibit participation in other independent debates.

The four confirmed candidates represent a balanced blend of left and right leaning ideas to engage, educate and enlighten a worldwide audience.

Questions include foreign policy, the economy, civil rights, and other critical policy issues that affect not only Americans, but the rest of the world as well.

Free & Equal and our sponsors are here to build inspiring and real candidates with fresh ideas to guide us towards a free, peaceful, and prosperous future for everyone.

Al Jazeera will also be broadcasting.

Please see Judy's story where one can ask questions for the Candidates:
Free and Equal Presidential Debates Link to ask Your Own Questions to Candidate

Larry King will be the moderator.

Whether you already feel you are locked into one of the two main Parties, as an American it would benefit you to hear and learn of others viewpoints. Also for those of you still undeceided please listen maybe one of them speak your heart, and for those who would rather not vote than vote for either Romney or Obama, perhaps one of these Candidates speak more clearly to your heart.

I just saw this Swedish poll:
"If you could vote in the American election, who would you vote for?"
Result: Obama 90%, Romney: about that!

Well if the people even KNEW there were other actual Presidential Candidates they could choose from they may have picked a different name. Please people I'm just asking you to listen and LEARN that you have even more to choose from, but CORPORATE media doesn't want you to KNOW that.

Sorry Sheryl, I just happened to see that Swedish poll, and Obama and Romney were the only options...

I, as an American, am really ticked off when we have 4 other Candidates who have something to say and can't be in the debates. These elections are so RIGGED it's beyond Pathetic. YOU ALL SHOULD CARE DEEPLY!

Read Brian's story how The Green Parties PRESIDENTIAL Candidate and her Vice President were LOCKED by the police in handcuffs to metal chairs in some remote warehouse by the police for 8 hours! Not able to speak to their Lawyers.

Americans THINK THINK THINK......

Why is that allowed to happen?

Even if you would never change you vote from one of the main parties, don't you think other viewpoints should be allowed to be heard?

Why were these women treated this way?

Is this the America you Want? Is this acceptable?

Is this not telling YOU something?

What are the Elites so afraid of?

That we may ACTUALLY be able to make a true change if we went with other Parties NOT beholden to them?

If you will not go to one of these other candidates this time. Please please pay attention to how the two Parties operate. You must "see" your own parties for what they truly are and stop pointing the fingers back and forth. If you still vote for the major two Party this time, and you are still not satisfied with your party of choice....don't just flip to the other side, get out from under Both of them and the Coporate hold that is with both of those Parties. If not this time, think for later, if we have a chance later. I hope that no matter who wins that the people in Washington do the right thing for the people and not just the few; I have my gravest of doubts but I want to believe, because I frankly can't take much more of this crap that BOTH Parties have allowed and or contributed to be done to us.

Anderson / Stein 2016! These are the ONLY candidates talking about REAL solutions. Come on America! We have 4 years to fix this system of a 2 Party monopoly. If it can't be done then I'm afraid America is doomed.

Thank yo so much for posting Dandelion. Let's hope that people will listen, for America's sake.

Still trying to use C2, hope you see Sheryl I am here and receiving your mail. Had to sign in over and over to respond here. Wanted to say the main problem as I see it is money speaks. The supreme ct. dealt use a terrible blow and now the pacs rule. . Then of course the majority of people are ignorant, sadly they believe what ever the likes of Fox news throws out. Since Fox has become so popular they have added to the terrible divide. Calling them a news channel is ridiculous. All are corporate run but that one is down right dangerous.

thanks for posting this dear Dandelion, I did not know that. In Europe they say everywhere that there are just 2 candidats but as I have readed from you there are more, they never speaks off them in Europe and certainly not in my country Belgium.< When I hear speak about the poitic in America I was always wonder that such a big country have ony 2 cnadidates and in Belgium nearly 10 for such a little country.

As a Progressive, I am often VERY disappointed with the Democratic party. I am most interested in the other candidates; I like both Rocky Anderson and Jill Stein.

BUT until a third party I like emerges with a signficant presence on the federal, state & local levels of government, I simply won't use my vote for a candidate who isn't on all state ballots & hasn't a prayer of winning. I can't let the fanatics with a medieval mind-set take us back to the bad old days. I will vote for Dems, across the board - for both my own self-interest & those of my community who are hurting.

I understand it is very hard for some to leave the main two Parties, but at least watch this debate. You might learn something, and then use it to light a fire under the one you will vote for butt.

But for those who are like me, I'm glad to be able to present this so we can hear our Candidate. You get prime time for the Republican and Democrat debates, we as Americans want to hear our Candidates. They should of been all shown at the same time IF it truly was a fair playing field.

For those sitting on the fence and not knowing who to still vote for, give these Candidates a listen.

And yes, there are more than Two Parties so if I've enlightened even that much then I'm glad I put this on here.

We will pause the video after the 2 major party candidates answer each question to include real-time responses from the Green Party’s Jill Stein and the Justice Party’s Rocky Anderson. Libertarian Gary Johnson has declined to participate. Ask your public radio or television station to air our special, or tune in right here at

I don't know about Belgium but here in Germany media HAS MENTIONED other third party's candidates. However, there was hardly anything more than just the mentioning of them and introduction what they represent. The main news coverage is naturally about the two only.

Angelika R (143)
Saturday October 20, 2012, 1:25 pm
Thanks Sheryl. you know I am in full consent with you and MjM on that but I have also expressed my concerns on here before. Concerns of worries that if too many votes are taken away from Obama in favor of a third party's candidate you may end up with Rmoney in the end and THAT would most definitely be yours AND OUR WORST CASE scenario. I do hope there will be a chance for fixing your declining democracy and country in total.

Angelika R (143)
Saturday October 20, 2012, 1:43 pm
Your whole system is so rigged one could cry. If a public TV station here would dare giving more ad time on air to any party's candidate over another during campaining it would be fined. But that won't happen thanks to media watch which is a public agency here.

Sheryl G (363)
Saturday October 20, 2012, 1:56 pm
I understand that Angelika, but this has been the same story for the last 40 years, if we don't vote for______it will be worse. And they have been correct, it's been worse, and worse and worse, and we have gone back and forth in this ping pong match getting worse and worse. I'm done, I as well as a lot of Americans have finished playing this back and forth and getting nowhere. We TRULY want to prevent a worse case scenario and if everyone would turn their back on these Corporate Owned Parties we have one of the better 3rd parties.

When I talk to Republicans many say, I don't really like Romney nor what is going on in the Republican Party but I won't vote for Obama and a vote for a 3rd Party is a vote for Obama. Then when I speak to the Democrats I get the same story, a vote for 3rd Party is a vote for Romney. So if so many are not liking their own parties, all I'm getting is FEAR and so due to FEAR everyone stays with the same crap. Fear has the people of this Country paralyzed! I hope if Obama gets in, that it's everything that those supporters hope for, but I lost hope a long time ago with the other two Parties.

The Justice Party with Rocky Anderson hasn't existed for even a year yet, and we got him on in the State of Florida in such a short time. He is also on the ballot in a lot of other States as well. When people work together and expend the effort it is amazing what can be done in a short time. We hope to get at least the 5% then his Party will get matching Federal Funds and that will help for future efforts. As we do not take Corporate donations over $100 this matching funds is very important.

If the President isn't re-elected it will be because of voter suppression, not because of a 3rd party spoiler.

That's something else we must do before the next election, get all the goddamned money out of politics! If we can't then Rocky's Justice Party better change it's policy of not taking more than $100 from any donor.

Sheryl G (363)
Saturday October 20, 2012, 4:14 pm
I agree with you on the voter suppression not the 3rd Party. But as for Corporate donations, I know it's tempting, but how does one claim a viable party to truly make the change when they too have Corporate dollars going into their pockets. The only way that might work is to promise it they win, the election rules will change, that they are to get in to make the changes as the other two parties seem unwilling to do so. But would Corporate donate if they knew that this would be the end game? No special interest to them? This isn't going to be easy folks but it remains hard until the masses get together and throw off the yokes of red team blue team.

The "change"... the promise of "transparency in government"... the assurance of a Fed which is rightfully honorable, forthright, and responsive directly to the citizens of this nation will NEVER happen as long as people remain deluded by casting votes for the status quo i.e. the traditional two party candidates. We've seen it time after time, and we've all watched in despair as this nation has crumbled before our very eyes. What will it take for people to wake up and realize that the existing system is totally rigged? What will it take for people to realize that both Dems and Repubs are going to continue delivering more abuse, more deceptions and lies, more losses of the precious few remaining rights that we have left? What will it take for Americans to awaken before they find themselves engulfed in a Police State with no rights left? I fervently hope and pray that the people of this country will wake up quickly... before this current election process, and realize that a vote for either the Dems or the Repubs is a vote for the ultimate demise of everything that we have come to love and cherish in this once great nation.

Carrie B (306)

Voting Green or any third party in this election means voting for Romney!

The theory is if you live in a state that is solidly Red or Blue and you vote Green party, it won't matter. I beg to differ.

Considering how many of US there are who are worried about GMOs, climate change, energy, corporate influence, and the environment in its entirety, voting third party is taking away a vote away from Obama. Those who say that those third party voters would "just not vote" are really very sad indeed because if one chooses not to vote at all if there is not a candidate who agrees with all of your particular views, it is not only apathetic, but also selfish.

Just imagine what will happen to this economy, environment, and influence of corporations if Romney is elected. Jill Stein will be a distant memory and a regret of many who threw away their vote to make a point.

Those who say Obama will win regardless of third party votes are only touting a new (third) party line, but also doing what they dislike most about the two major parties. They are being dishonest so as to solicit more votes!

No one is trying to suppress Green party ideas, but instead present an honest assessment of what throwing your vote away in this election could do to our already fragile country, world, and environment.

Voting third party is a vote for Romney. I just can and will not believe that there are so many of my generation who are so naive and idealistic as to believe that a third party vote won't ultimately hurt your beliefs, but also hurt the entire planet.

Contrary to what many have said about me and my opinions, I am not trying to suppress freedom of speech or rights. I just want everyone to realize what a Romney presidency would do to this country. A vote for ANY third party candidate is a vote for Romney! Please consider that if you have not already voted.

Carrie B (306)
Sunday October 21, 2012, 1:01 am
I am hoping one or two rational people are reading and listening to what is happening in our world and not holding on to unrealistic idealism. Who among you are really willing to throw your vote away and ultimately have Romney as president?

Regardless of what anyone who is promoting Jill Stein is telling you, There is NO CLEAR VICTORY FOR OBAMA! Vote Obama - Biden or vote Romney - Ryan. Voting for Stein is the same as voting Romney- Ryan.

I believe that all candidates should be heard before the election, but since your democrazy and press is rigged I don't see much hope for that in the foreseable future and don't forget that money play a big part of the equation.
Since you mentioned a Bananarepublic I can tell you that I know what you mean living in Portugal.

I always end up voting 3rd parties. Don't think you will dilute your vote, especially if you vote in a state that is probably red or blue, it sends a message more clear than someone, somewhere thing they have a mandate. Otherwise, you are part of the problem (sorry, but it's true).

Sheryl G (363)
Sunday October 21, 2012, 6:56 am
My vote will NOT be thrown away, as with Robert H. above I feel my vote is to try to SAVE this Country, and that those who vote either Democrat or Republican is not only throwing a vote away but throwing us to the wolves.

As I have said before, the statement a vote for a 3rd Party is a vote for Romney isn't the case as I've heard the same from the Republicans that tell me a vote for 3rd Party is a vote for Obama. Both sides FEAR their Party loosing and I don't vote along Party lines. I've been a LIFE long Independent voter and I vote for who I feel is BEST for this Country, not the lesser of two evils which both Parties are at this point.

Thank you for keeping us so informed, Dandelion. I'll be watching the debate on the 23rd, but I have to admit that I agree with Pamylle and Carrie and Evelyn and so many others. Personally, I happen to like President Obama. I think he's a brilliant and decent man whose had more obstacles in his path than just about any other president --the first one being that he's the first black president and hasn't gotten the respect and cooperation that he might otherwise have gotten. In all honesty, I haven't seen any president spoken down to and treated in a less presidential manner than this one. This country needs to move beyond prejudice, accept that all men are created equal, and then choose the best person --man or woman-- to lead this country.

I'm happy to hear the views of other candidates, and I admire and respect them for putting themselves out there because they'd have to be very determined, dedicated and courageous to do so, but with our Congress being what it is --totally partisan and controlled by corporate interests and wealthy benefactors-- I fear for a third party candidate at this point in time. There are still too many Americans who can't accept anyone but a WHITE MAN in the Office of President --and that's a mindset that needs to be overcome for the sake of women and people of color.

Bless you, Dandelion, for all you do.

And if you truly like the Democrat Party and are happy with Obama then by all means you SHOULD vote that way. I just know too many who are voting for him or Romney simply because it is the lesser of evils or they do not dare. That should not be the main reason for voting for someone, and I say, there ARE other options, so please check out those options.

I fully feel as you say, he has had roadblocks, some due to racial reasons and others due to the fact they wouldn't want the Democrats to accomplish anything despite who was in office. I do not hold him accountable for what has been beyond his control, but he drew a line in the sand with me when he did several things, one being he signed on the NDAA.....NO ONE gets my vote that signs MY rights away.

He is also moving forward with the TPPA and he is NOT a leader in the environmental causes that will destroy us all. We don't have time for foot dragging and a man that talks of "clean coal" is not an environmentalist. He also pushed to have more nuclear plants even after what has happened in Japan. These things were and are in his own control, and also there was no reason to bring MORE troops into Afghanistan, in light of the way he did go after Bin Laden.

But I certainly can't vote the Republicans in, they of they two parties have attacked the poor among us, they gave us the Patriot Act which took away rights, they show little to no compassion, their stand on Womens issues is astounding and backwards, and Romney has been on all sides of all the issues.

Frankly if I was a true Republican and not the registered Independent I've always been, I don't think I could vote for him. How could I trust he would keep to the Republican platform? Who knows with him. I personally think the only thing he has in mind is what is good for Mr. Romney, and he WANTS the White House, he wants the prestige.

He has all the money in the world, he has traveled the world, he has been head of Companies, he has all he could ever want in material possessions, he has run the Olympics, he has been Governor, the only thing he has yet to get is the Presidency, that would give him current prestige and historical fame. He has bought everything he has wanted and he wants it badly so he will take care of his buddies who will throw their money at him to get what HE wants as he will then give them what THEY want. That is no person to have at the head of any Country!

I also appreciate the way everyone has conducted themselves on here with their various views. May the Great Spirit bless us all with the Highest and Best outcome. We ALL certainly need it, and I mean that for all of our relations, the non human ones as well. And thank you for the blessing, I will take all the blessings that are so heartfully sent.

I've always called it as I see it MJ M.....and to me, it is extemely clear. And that Courage I am not seeing with the vast majority, I'm not sure how low this Country and the people in it must sink before it arises. Many years ago as I was speaking of the writing on the wall, people just laughed at my words, and though I didn't want those things to be true, I was in hopes the people would never allow it to get this bad, but it has happened. I don't want to live in worse, I do not want to see it.

Noted & thanks, Dandelion. I subscribe to Democracy Now and was so glad that Amy had this. I also read about Jill Stein and her running mate being arrested. So brave--they have my deep respect for their courage. Not even a "gun to my head" could make me vote for Willard. But, I'm still considering Obama or 3rd party...depends on how it looks in my state on election day. Info tells voters that we have gone from "red" to "purple"....but not blue, so I'm still unsure.
After considering the 3rd party issue, it just seems to me that these various parties will need to build local structure first, before being able to assert themselves strongly nationally. 3rd parties in my area are still pretty much on the sidelines, although their voices are louder at each election...and they haven't disappeared, but do appear to be gaining some traction with the population who's sick to death of the two Corporate Parties.

On the issue of national debates, it's clear that many are truly disgusted with both parties and would welcome more, too! It's a sham and travesty that we're not allowed to hear them, (locally, many are included in debates here). I hope this can be a "wake-up call" to more and more that the system is broken and the results are already fixed.

BTW, the media spent so much time dissing the 1st debate and moderator Lehrer....making fun of him repeatedly asking the question, "What's the difference between the 2 of you?"....and that Obama had such a hard time answering. In fact, that WAS the best question....noting how little difference, in fact, exists. Why wasn't THAT brought up my MainStreamMedia? It's obvious that Obama took his marching orders from Dem. party Corporate Blue Dogs....who very often vote in Congress with their Republican counterparts, rather than their own Dem. party. Although in Obama's defense, I will say that he does "live in a bubble" and the spoonfed info he receives are probably given with a pro-Corporate slant. Especially since so many of the Progressives that were in the Admin. initially either "got railroaded," fell out of favor, or just got depressed that their voices were silenced, and left. There are many, many of them.

Sunday October 21, 2012, 5:09 pm
Purple eh? Well we sure are colorful at least in this Country if nothing else. lol Thanks for your comment, and I too thought Mr. Lehrer was hitting on exactly the "point" so what is the difference between the two of you. I know I hear it all the time on TV, from each side, a BIG difference, oh really.....oh really. Some social issues yes, but both got a stranglehold on the people.

I agree with you Dandelion. If we want real change to occur for this country, we must get rid of the b.s. from the old 2 party system.
We must allow new ideas flow in from the unheard from candidates.

Thanks, Dandelion. Noted and with much dismay my stomache has been churning over these very topics for quite awhile. I agree with Pamylle and Carrie - and unfortunately a 3rd party vote would be a vote for Romney which in my opinion would be the worse of the two options. I will watch the debate. I get RT, Al Jazeera, JHK Japan, France 24, DW Germany, Galavision (I even listened to part of the first debate in Spanish just for a break), Southeast Asia, BBC and so on. I am an addict to all of this and I can say one thing for sure: the Americans have no idea what is going on here and if you want a whiff of what is then turn to some of these broadcasts. I think that there is no reason absolutely for this to be a two-party option for voting in this country. Democracy? Here in the State of Illinois I have to DECLARE a party - Democrat or Republican as I sign in to vote and they will not accept my 'INDEPENDENT' request so I am handed a ballot with nothing but Democratic candidates on it - in other words you cannot vote just for the candidate regardless of his/her party and just narrow down the circuit court judges from 10 to 6, as an example. And they are all Democrats. And this is a republic with the electoral college voting system. A democracy as we all know is one person one vote and whoever gets the most votes wins. Spending billions of dollars in swing states where the electoral college votes will determine the outcome. I, too, pray for the day when this system wil change and all that makes this one big corporate run system - money rules and the people don't matter. Green Stars all around to you and those who have commented as such above.

I wish I could convince all of the like minded idealists from my generation to be realistic. Most of us grew up in the past 40 + years. That means, we realize change is slower, and cutting of our nose to spite our face is nothing short of an exercise in futility.

Sheryl, I was surprised to read that you have republican friends who say a third party vote is a vote for Obama. Quite honestly, I have do not know ONE (1) republican who shares this view. In fact, the ones I know are laughing hysterically at all of the progressives willing to VOTE third party.

That brings me to, what I think is a serious question - Just exactly what do all of you are willing to throw your vote away on someone who has NO chance of winning, going to do do with a Romney presidency?

Romney means Rove and money. Just exactly what chance do you think ANY candidate has outside of the republican party? I am quite serious. Please read and note the following:

By the way, I think Obama is an excellent President and all who would vote against him are voting for more corporate control and corruption in our government. That is what I have the most difficulty understand.

Monday October 22, 2012, 5:42 am
Carrie i too am amazed WHO WOULD POSSIBLY VOTE FOR ROMNEY!!!Every word that comes from his mouth is a LIE,He is a BULLY, disrespectful, cant wait to start another WAR,At the other debates he was telling the moderators, when to talk, doing exactly what he wanted, im afraid for the country if he gets in office, and woman should also be scared.

Carrie as I said before in this thread, if you are happy with Obama and think he is an excellent President by all means you should vote for him. On some issues I have liked his stand, I think he makes a lot better figure head in his ability to speak on TV and with foreign dignitaries than the former President, and for this Country overall I'm a very delighted person that someone of color has finally filled that position. I hope it means we can move forward in getting beyond the color of one's skin in all things we do in this Country among ourselves.

That being said, I personally can't vote for him no more than you could vote for Romney, it is as clear to me as it is clear to me I don't want Romney. Let me remind you, this is MY vote, you had yours, and this is my opinion and feelings on the matter. I put this on here so those who wanted to hear the other candidates could, for those who did not know there are 3rd Parties to learn there are and what they represent, and for those who still can't make up their mind these are other options, and for those who think along the similar lines of myself and many others in this Country we are going to move elsewhere with our votes.

I am an idealist I feel the Revolutionist who formulated the Declaration of Independence were Idealist, if not we'd still be under the UK. Thank goodness for Idealist, in fact we still may be living in caves if not for those who had thought, gee maybe there is a better way to live and do things. But I am also a Realist, I realize that if this Country sticks on the coarse it is, with the pollution it causes from many areas, and that as the largest polluter with our mass consumption waste and usage of resources we are going to regret this and we need to change this quickly.

With the two Parties we have I do not see either of them setting the tone and challenge for this Nation to move to a greener and cleaner future, "clean coal" that Obama speaks of is not green. I do not see that either of these two Candidates taking a serious move in the environment and we should be the Leaders and the example to the world in this, for we have other growing economies like India and China that will tear the very fabric of our eco system of this planet if they follow suit in the damages that we have done thus far around the world and at home.

Frankly if we don't it will not matter the names of the Candidates, nor the Parties, if we do not have clean water to drink, good air to breath, if environments around the world are destroyed, if our foods are full of chemicals and toxins. Our children being born into this world, their little bodies are bombarded with this crap and others who live in other parts of the world are suffering from our out of control Capitalism without attaching environmental controls to what these Corporations do in making their monies.

No wonder we have so many children who are in stress, this is a stressful planet from many angles, and we owe it, being the largest economic engine to not drive this planet into the abyss, we owe it to the children being born today and the future children, they need a planet as well. How dare we not be Realistic and fail to see what we are doing!. If people can't see that, and that is being REALLY REALISTIC then I don't know how else to say it in a short manner of time on this thread but a quick stroll around the C2 newsroom will inform you this is urgent.

BOTH Rocky Anderson and Dr. Stein are true Environmentalist and I'd be pleased with either of those two Parties if they would win. I'm not too sure on the other two Candidates that will be on this debate but I'll listen to them, I like to know all of my options. I am pretty set with Rocky, I worked hard here in Florida to get him on the ballot for the Justice Party and I'm not going to turn my back on him at this stage of the game. There are a lot of people who do feel like I do, they are either too afraid to toss their vote for 3rd Party (and believe me Carrie there are Republicans who feel a vote for 3rd Party is a vote for Obama just because you haven't heard one say so) or they had not even realized they had an option.

I also had spoken with people who were not even going to vote, they didn't like either Candidate, guess what, they are now going to vote, they had other options, at least here in Florida. They now can feel like a part of this Country and caste a vote, not all are so delighted as you are Carrie with who is running and what the Parties have done. And Deborah I do realize some States you are locked in, I know Kit has explained the same for Texas. So those are State issues that you all need to be working on.

You keep saying I'm throwing away my vote, and I keep reminding people that I feel you are throwing away your vote. I think I and many like me are trying to pull this Country into a better direction and get out from under the Corporate stanglehold. From the green stars I've been getting from people wanting to remain private or those who do not want to stick their necks out, I know there are a lot of readers who are in agreement with me. The tide I do hope is turning, or these two mainstream Parties better get on the ball. There are MILLIONS OF US who can vote in this Country......all we each need to do, for those who can in their States, is do not vote the two Parties in again that got us to this mess. It is that simple and no one has a gun to your head, yet. How many years of NDAA can we tolerate?

But you all keep coming onto the threads, or speak to each other about how a 3rd Party can't win and you doom things before it is even finished. Everyone in the main two Parties hates it when the election is called before it is finished, well I feel the same way on this. It only doesn't happen because you all allow it not to happen by sticking with what IS and complain when things remain the same or get worse. Some of us have stopped being part of the problem and are moving towards a solution, and yes, I realize things change slowly, but they can move faster IF we get out from under the two Parties.

People tend to forget how QUICKLY many things took place with the New Deal with Roosevelt who took a lot of heat and under Eisenhower and his highway system. Things can move a lot more quickly, but not with these two Parties that are beholden to the ones who truly control them......and it isn't We The People.....they just give you a 4 year window to vote on who will keep the boot at your throat.

In addition to the various input from Carrie and some others, plus my own previous comments here and elsewhere, I will throw in another piece here from Daniel Ellsberg as more food for thoughts for possible undecided voters. Sorry Sheryl, despite your commitment and belief I do want you to read his article, thanks.
Defeat Romney, Without Illusions About Obama
It is urgently important to prevent a Republican administration under Romney/Ryan from taking office in January 2013....
"If I were a person in a swing state, I'd vote against Romney/Ryan, which means voting for Obama because there is no other choice." ...
In the eight to twelve close-fought states -- especially Florida, Ohio, and Virginia, but also Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin -- for any progressive to encourage fellow progressives and others in those states to vote for a third-party candidate is, I would say, to be complicit in facilitating the election of Romney and Ryan, with all its consequences. ...

That means for progressives in the next couple of weeks -- in addition to the rallies, demonstrations, petitions, lobbying (largely against policies or prospective policies of President Obama, including austerity budgeting next month), movement-building and civil disobedience that are needed all year round and every year -- using one's voice and one's e-mails and op-eds and social media to encourage citizens in swing states to vote against a Romney victory by voting for the only real alternative, Barack Obama.

Those Progressives that are worried about a third Party spoiler affect can take solace in knowing that Gary Johnson stands to take as many votes from Willard as third Party candidates will from the President. There are loads of republicans that could never bring themselves to vote for the moron. Excuse me, morMon.

So far so good, BUT you must understand that any 3rd party must build up a reputation first, they need to get big enough to be recognized - and THEN it makes sense to vote for them.
As it is now, voting is like a game of poker...and I'm afraid the choice will be between those two well known parties. I would be pro Obama, because he's decent, intelligent and able to do the job - but most of all I'm pro Dem's, because they are not as evil than the Rep's. For the following four years it's important to build up on the 3rd party, so that they are READY for the NEXT elections. I wish that they by then are well known to a broader public...!!, the rest follows.

But do read the full article, as in no way it means favoring Obama. It rather means-and that is also my view- being realistic. None of the 3rd party candidates has even the slightest chance of winning, but would have the hardest time in their lives to pick up the pieces of what's left of America in 2016 to rebuild from there on, should Romney win. They must and should use the coming 4 yrs to build grassroots movements nationwide and get financial support from there. This is just not the perfect timing and obviously there weren't enough Sheryls in the entire country to give those candidates the lift they undoubtably deserve.
But never before was there a teaparty and never before have the republicans come out with such a radical disastrous candidate, that's why I feel arguments referring to past experience are not that valid at this time.
HOWEVER, and I want to point this out, Sheryl and those others here going her way deserve our utmost admiration and respect for their pioneer work being such "warriors" for a true freedom and democracy.

MJM, I just read the complaint the Johnson campaign filed 2 days ago (a bit late)with the DC court and I wonder how long it will take for any kind of response from there. THIS case seems to be a real matter for monitors to intervene. The OECE states: "The mission will assess these elections for their compliance with OSCE commitments and other international standards for democratic elections, as well as national legislation. Observers will follow campaign activities, the work of the election administration and relevant federal and state institutions, implementation of the legislative framework, and the resolution of election disputes. As part of the observation, the LEOM will conduct comprehensive monitoring of the media."
Clearly, national legislation.was breached in the Johnson v CPE case, or do I misunderstand something here?

Angel, I must confess I haven't been following Gary's campaign very closely, so I haven't heard about this filing with the DC court. Something tells me the the Courts are going to be busier this election season than anytime in history.

I understand all the arguments against voting 3rd Party. I've been talked out of it for the past 20 some odd years. It is ALWAYS a critical election, I get that every time. The last time I voted for the main Party I said this is the final time, unless I see some real changes.

And what do I get? The NDAA! Was the Patriot Act not bad enough? Drones! Clean Coal! A push for more Nuke Plants! Bush's Taxes Continued! More War! More troops into Afghanistan! The slaughter of our Wild Horses! The voting in the Pipeline (partial) for the Canadian Tar Sands! We now have the first President to KILL an American citizen WITHOUT due process! The list goes on. Sorry, I sign on to that then I HAVE BLOOD ON MY HANDS. No way, not doing it, not going there anymore.

Others keep saying that we need to build up the 3rd Parties, well how do you build it up when you all keep voting for the other mainstream Parties or do NOTHING to help the 3rd Parties between elections. If we get at least 5% we get matching monies to help build up the 3rd Parties.

I am VERY VERY concerned about this Country and our going into Iran, I see BOTH main Parties heading that way. Do not be Party at least tells you point blank they are a bunch of idiots, they are wolves in wolves clothing (sorry wolves) but the other is a wolf in sheeps clothing.

I am TIRED AND DISGUSTED of war after war after war. No need of it, too many suffer, too many being killed, not just our sons and daughters but others where we have no business being. They pushed Ron Paul out too, and he was a Republican! But the Profit Makers from the War Machine, that OWN BOTH Parties didn't like what he had to say, as he was against the WARS. Wars that are economically crippling this Country, causing hunger in children, our schools are in shambles, they want to take from the Elders the little they have.

I'm SICK AND TIRED of going to funerals of people who have NO health insurance or the means to pay for care, we got RomneyObamaCare, to placate the For Profit Insurance Companies, not the Universal Health Care. I just could SCREAM, YELL at the top of my lungs if I must one more time watch someone in pain, includes my own daugther just because they have no health care to obtain. Have you had to watch someone suffer because they don't have medical care? Have you buried someone you care about because they had no health care? Have you watched while your children's friends are being buried in their twenties because they have no health care?

Maybe some of you have the luxury to mess around with these two Parties, many many do not. It is VERY Real to a lot of people who are being abandoned by BOTH Parties. Too many years of broken promises that have only led from bad to worse.

So go vote for these Two Parties that have ALLOWED......Yes ALLOWED this to continue on year after year. I'll not be a Party to it any more. Maybe I'm taking the wrong road but at least it isn't down the same road to insanity.

Sometimes you just must stand up even if it is going against the grain to take that stand. I just be further along the road when you all get sick and tired of being sick and tired. As us natives say, I have thrown my spear into the ground. That is it. Now go vote according to your own convictions, this is mine.

Oh, and this is another reason I don't support the Republican nor Democrat Parties anymore. The U.S. government is now a “Wall Street government” because of the revolving door between the financial services industry and those that regulate the industry. This means that those in power are on the side of Wall Street.

The same can be said for Monsanto, which is really a chemical company. Key figures in the regulatory bodies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have, according to, “held important positions at Monsanto” before working in those regulatory bodies or have held them “after their biotech related regulatory work for the government agency.” As a result, the government has become one with Monsanto in terms of favorable policy.

Following an explosive and controversial French study indicating a link between Monsanto's controversial genetically engineered corn and cancer, Russian authorities have suspended all imports and use of GMO corn.

And it's not just Russia that's appalled by what's been learned. The French government asked European authorities to "take all necessary measures to protect human and animal health, measures that could go as far as emergency suspension of imports" of GM corn in the entire European Union.

All 15 nations in the European Union already require labeling of foods containing genetically engineered ingredients, and many countries in Europe restrict or ban the planting of genetically engineered crops. But U.S. diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks show that the U.S. government has been conspiring to retaliate against Europe for refusing to use GM seeds, by engaging in aggressive trade wars against reluctant nations.

The cables showed that the U.S. GOVERNEMENT, working with biotech firms, has planned to "retaliate" against those who attempted to stop the spread of GM crops. They recommended causing "pain" in the EU and to be prepared for a prolonged battle.

Causing "pain" to the EU. Talk about making more enemies. But hey what does the Coporate Ones all know the ones who truly RUN OUR GOVERNMENT. Allowing the Monsanto's to rule what we are eating instead of our Government truly protecting us. With a few exceptions with Both Parties, most who sit in Government has sold us out. So go have another ear of corn, but remember to vote.

This just came in to my personal email from MJ M

I love your courage and your comments on the ‘Free and Equal Presidential Debate’ thread. I’ve been trying to leave a comment to back you up but apparently I’ve been suspended for something I might have said on another thread.

This is what I’ve been trying to post on your thread:

I’m encouraging Progressives in solid blue States to pull the lever for the TRULY progressive candidates on their ballots. This message MUST be sent! As for you ‘swing state’ voters, you MUST vote your consciences! It’s true that Supreme Court appointments are of vital concern, but I’ve also heard from people that say it will take a Rmoney in the white house to smash America at the bottom of the cliff before Americans pull their collective heads out of their butt and see what really is going on with our democracy.

Although the thought sickens me, there is a case to be made that the healing will only begin once we’ve hit rock bottom and see exactly what we’ve let America become. With the Dems, the move to that fascist plutocracy and total corporate takeover of our government is slower and less obvious, but just as real. Prolonging what is inevitable is not preventing it.

Since the powers that be have kept Rocky off the ballot in Calif, I had to write him in. This won’t be the case in 2016. Short of nuclear annihilation, he will be on the ballot in all 50 States, and everyone will know of him and his message. Question is, how will they view the urgency of that message at that time? I happen to think it’s damn urgent right now.

We must all vote our consciences, whatever that may be. After all, that’s the definition of democracy. Let’s not let them take that from us.

He then included this link:

Thx Sheryl for providing us with MJM' s post. The idea expressed there is neither new (quite popular attitude in Germ. before)nor is it all wrong, only problem with "throwing Americans at the bottom of the cliff" is that this smash may well include a nuclear war from which they nor anyone else could hardly pull collective heads out of their butts anymore.
So far Obama has withstood Netanjahus urge and the two are known not exactly to be friends. Entirely different with the close buddies Bibi and Mitten. The latter made no secret of his intent and before we know it the whole Middle East and likely much more than that will be burning, most likely more US soldiers included..
Yes, its true, sadly also Obama is a war president but I think -and hope like hell-he is much more thoughtful about backing Israel for striking Iran. The current ongoing wars in the region (with US aid) are certainly enough and need no additional oil on the flames.

Thank you for this information and you are right about the corporate ownership of the main election candidates, however, I don't want it on my conscience that the vote thrown away to a third party allowed Romney to win. This is just too critical to play with protesting votes this time around.

As I've said before, that is the same excuse not to vote 3rd Party at every election for 20 some odd years I've paid attention, "this election is too important or too critical". It always is, it always will be, and all we have done is go from bad to worse. Sometimes one just has to take the plunge to get off the sinking ship and head for shore, as it isn't helping moving the deck chairs around on the Titanic.

Did I just read that the UN is going to monitor US polling places? I hope that is true. I am very concerned that the ReTHUGnicans will steal the election. Please, folks, get out and work and VOTE for Obama. Mitt has no concern for womens' rights, climate change, the poor and elderly, Early Childhood Education, etc. Life will be just so awful with Romeny as president. There will be no going back--only two weeks left to decide the fate of this country, probably forever. Think of all the good people who worked hard and smart; we can't let Romeny take it all down the drain.

Wow, what a good night! I didn't write more last night as I was getting tired (Angie what a trooper you are!) and I did want to savour it all in. These people were a breath of fresh air. They were all very respectful towards each other, I like the looseness of it, warts and all, it seem REAL not polished like some Corporate event.

I also liked the hour before the debate where each Candidate got to sit with a 4 panel of people, the woman who is in the charge of Free and Equal, Theresa Amato, the woman who wrote the book Grand Illusion The Myth of Voter Choice in a Two Party Tyranny, Thom Hartmann a progressive Radio Talk Host, and I'm afraid I can't recall the last man. Each Candidate got to sit at the table for 5 or 10 minutes and just speak freely on a variety of topics but the discussion certainly revolved around the way are elections are handled.

Whether you are voting for 3rd Party or not, or had no idea who you wanted to vote for this was an educational and certainly needed program for the American voter.

Oh yes, for those who watched, you can vote online for the for the top Candidate, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and the tally will be taken and the top 2 will go on to the next debate on October 30th. Please check in and watch.
