Help Protect the Next Aaron Swartz - YOU

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: CFAA, Aaron Swartz, Petition, protect, broad criminalization, online activity, usa, tragic, overreach )

Aaron was treated like a dangerous criminal because the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) gives absurdly broad powers to corporations and prosecutors to criminalize an array of online activity. It cost 26 year old Aaron his life! Are you next?

This was such a sad story. Thirty-five years for downloading those journal articles? A person doing that is just downloading items from a database that requires a subscription, and is free for your use if you are a student at a University library that subscribes to JSTOR. Such an offense should perhaps be punishable by a small fine, not this ridiculous response. This action is very ominous for all of us. Signed. thanks Dandelkion.

This was a case of negligent homicide by the prosecutor at the very least..
Thankfully because of it things may change, but i sure hope when we do get a law to stop this BS, it will be named after Aaron.
We owe him that for being the light that shined brightly enough to expose the dangers hiding from all of us..
Thanks Sheryl

This prosecutor should be held criminally responsible and sentenced to whatever prison time we can give her. Anybody else associated with her should be guilty of complicity to commit murder or manslaughter or whatever the case may be.

The most important thing Rose is you signed. I thank you all. Our Government, or at least the People who are currently holding seats in our Government care more for the Almighty Dollar than they do the People of this Country. They best start Standing up for each other, we don't need any more Aaron Swartz, Tomas Youngs, and a host of toxic disasters playing out in many neighborhoods as I write.
