Documentary explores the perilous state of our planet, and the means by which we can change our course. Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio contributors are well versed for the importance of a universal ecological consciousness. There is no other Earth for us.

A nicely done Documentary I hope people will take the time to view and please, if you have not yet signed the Petition that Chief UN Negotiator of the Philippines has made please add your signature to it, most critical we all join in on this.

"I’ve taken a rare step as a public servant -- I’ve gone beyond the usual conventions to start an Avaaz petition. I’m appealing to Avaaz members to stand in solidarity with the people of the Philippines and all victims of climate change worldwide. Together our voices can push the governments meeting at the UN climate summit happening now to ratchet up pollution controls and help poorer communities with funding.

The question that will determine our survival is: can humanity rise to the occasion? I still believe we can. Sign the petition today, and forward it to everyone, and I will deliver it personally at the talks". Jeb Sano

compared to "The 11th Hour" (2007) "An Inconvenient Truth" seems like child's play

" What if we choose to eradicate ourselves from this Earth, by whatever means?
The Earth goes nowehere.
And in time, it will regenerate, and all the lakes will be pristine. The rivers, the waters, the mountains, everything will be green again. It'll be peaceful. There may not be people, but the Earth will regenerate. And you know why? - Because the Ear th has all the time in the world
and we don't. So I think that's where we're at, right now. " -- Oren lyons in THE 11TH HOUR / Fünf vor Zwölf (2007; 95 min)

> There is no other Earth for us.
AND we have messed this one more than halfway up, for centuries if not millennia. Something we can really be proud of!

Industrialism developed in a different world from the one we live in today: fewer people, less material well-being, plentiful natural resources. What emerged was a highly productive, take-make-waste system that assumed infinite resources and infinite sinks for industrial wastes.

Industry moves, mines, extracts, shovels, burns, pumps, and wastes 35 truckloads for every 1 truck that is used which means disposes of four million pounds of material in order to provide one average, middle-class American family their needs for a year.

Sheryl of course I have signed this petition with prayers rising for Yeb Sano on Day 9 of his hunger strike. Humanity must rise up in solidarity or perish for lack of trying!

Thank you for this as always, much love.
David C.'s links appreciated and yes, it's got to be " all hands on deck " !!!!!

We are supposed to be superior creatures of our planet? Why do we kill Mother Earth then? Dandelion, thank you very much for this touching and very impressive video. I was not able to finish watching it, but I will do it later.
It is said that we can change our life with our mind. Maybe we have to spend more "Dreamtime" in order to dream up a perfect future.

Here is the link:

The questions remains, what happens when the worlds expanding powers like China,India and Brasil catches up to the way of life we take for granted in the USA and Europe??
The second question:Are we willing to change our way of living and pay the bill to reverse the damage that we have done to our world??

Thanks for posting this Sheryl.

Thanks Arild I've been reading about that too on various articles and frankly that has me even more concerned than the rising seas and big weather events, which are horrific enough. Once enough of the Methane gas is released into the air it has the potential to eradicate all life on earth.

The article Arild left is hot linked here.

If you've followed the UN's COP 19 you know that the perspective for change by governments is near zero..
If ALL PEOPLE won't stand up and change things, no one else will. For a summary of the Warsow events as of now this is a pretty good + informative site > A climate for coal
Unsurprisingly COP-19 may be the most coal friendly meeting yet.

And in the end,all will know what Chief Seattle had said for decades
"the earth does not belong to us,we belong to the earth"
and she would rather we kill ourselves than become man's slave
(we know how well humans treat their slaves)

Sheryl, I am not so sure that it is too late for us on this planet. I think the planet will survive and be well in a matter of a few years, Earth time. We on the other hand are still not listening. Al Gore was made fun of, the right still thinks it's ok to pollute and fight the EPA, stupid Romney even said he would get rid of them. I hope I am wrong, for our families and future descendants. Love to u girl...

Kahlil Gibran
Trees are poems that earth writes upon the sky,
We fell them down and turn them into paper,
That we may record our emptiness.

Rachel Carson
If having endured much, we at last asserted our 'right to know' and if, knowing, we have concluded that we are being asked to take senseless and frightening risks, then we should no longer accept the counsel of those who tell us that we must fill our world with poisonous chemicals, we should look around and see what other course is open to us.

Thank you Penny for your comment..it reminded me of a University Lecturer I was listening to back in the 1970's and a young student got up and asked him.."Will the earth survive major natural disasters or nuclear wars?" to which the replay was "fear not our planet will definitely survive" Huge sigh of relief on behalf of the students..
"But mankind won't" he added.

Indeed Ros and Penny, native people's say the same thing, the Earth will replenish even if it takes her thousands of years to get rid of the radiation and other pollutions, she has that long we don't.

“Extinction is the rule. Survival is the exception.” Carl Sagan

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." Albert Einstein

No apologizes needed SJ J.....I hope your little boy is well soon and that it's not too serious.

I disagree, if there is a WWIII the planet will be rid of us, over time new life will evolve. We are not trying to Save the planet, we are trying to save ourselves, and doing a very poor job. We have produced some very bright minds, those minds have shared with us generous ideas, humans are now over populated, overly concerned with self indulgence, and remarkably greedy.

Remember Einstein died in 1955.....I don't even think he thought it would get like this. The premise is the same even if he is off by a number in a war, we will be back to the stone age if our species survives at all. I can't change a quote someone said to suit the uptick in our own destruction.

Thanks to you both Kit and Dandelion........I was taught by my father from a very early age..that we will live in caves again..if we don't stop taking from planet and give nothing back (Steiner-Education back in Germany 1930's was teaching him this)..he predicted that it wouldn't happen in my life time, possibly not in my children's lifetime but definitely my grandchildren...that was in 1960...when I was 6..my grandchildren are now...12 and 7 yrs old..and they all thought he was crazy...stark raving mad...

great comments here, and the poem you posted Kit by Gibran ~ perfection. Our emptiness. What a perfect word to describe the compulsive needing to fill up the big empty hole of our spirits. I grieve not for people, I grieve for the other species who will be the first to always suffer for our incredible ARROGANCE and indulgence. We need only to look back at history to show that we fail to learn over and over and over. Tragedy always has that fatal flaw of blindness.

Noted and shared the video. Petition previously signed and shared.

The documentary was excellent. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I don't hold out much hope for mankind. I don't see the movement and the massive coming together of the entire planet, all working toward one common goal of healing Mother Earth, which is what it will take. Sad.
