Today, the United States Supreme Court dealt yet another staggering blow to our democracy by giving the green light for the wealthiest Americans to pour vast sums of money into electing their hand-picked candidates. Please sign petition.

I signed. But I see virtually no chance that my state reps are gonna do anything about it. I like my state reps but this has backed them to a wall. If they want to stay in Congress now, they will have to play ball with the ultra rich.
I'll keep signing petitions and writing Congress people as I'm sharpening my pitchfork because I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this much longer.

From the petition:

"We, the people, should not have to buy access to our own government. If you won't make meaningful anti-corruption reform a priority, we will elect new leaders who will."

With mid-terms coming up, we need to get out and vote. What else can we do? As stated in the petition, we need to tell our current representatives that "if you won't make meaningful anti-corruption reform a priority, we will elect new leaders who will."

THEY may have the money and the SCOTUS behind them, but we have the votes. Let's use them!

Have you heard about the Bilderberg Group, the Trilateralists, The CFR? All are part of a One World Governement/intra-nation cooperation toward a single currency and global capitalism where we are either -dispensible-wage slaved-soldiered-dying of under treated diseases-starved (see Africa, Phillipines, India, Bangledesh, etc) or poisoned by SRM; solar radiation management [chemtrails] or held hostage to weather extremes and unseasonable conditions through weather modification and manipulation; HAARP. Tearing our constitution apart is but one factor in this quest to rule the world, trim the population, and control every aspect of our lives. The Patriot Act was the single largest step toward the elimination of our personal freedom, and the advancement of the Police State. That the SCOTUS has taken this unprecedented step is proof our democracy is theater, not real. I have no hope our nation is anything but illusion now. Our voice is still our vote, and there is the only path for us to take.

I agree, it's been gone for awhile now......now it is only more in the face. They don't even have to hide or pretend anymore.

Lawrence Lessig is the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, and Director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University. Professor Lessig has written frequently about the Citizens United case, the First Amendment, and the issue of corruption.

He has been quoted as saying, "Our Republic is Lost, there is no question about that. Now we must figure out how to get it back."

Thank you Sherri for bringing up the June 20th action.

Not surprising, given the partisan corporate hacks appointed to the Supreme Court by the Bush Jr. administration. The next time a fellow progressive tells me that voting doesn't matter, and both parties are the same, I will point to this day. Petition gladly signed, but does it even matter anymore? The game is rigged, and we the people always lose.

Thanks for adding the additional petitions onto this thread Angelika. All have been signed by me and I hope that others coming across this thread will also take the time to sign the additional links.

Anne, the Democrats best get their message out there strongly. STRONGLY, for they too have laid in bed too long with the Corporations. Although they've been better on the social programs, even there they have tossed Social Security on the cutting board and have failed to speak up louder on a host of other progressive topics. Sitting on the fence or even siding with the Republicans have had many, including myself, run towards the 3rd Parties that do not have Corporate backing. Democrats take in as much Wall Street monies as does the other in many of the races, not all, but a lot of places, and have placated too long to the Big Money. Now unfortunately they are as beholden as the other Party to do so.

If they would fight harder and get a clearer message that they truly were on the side of The People, as our Alan Grayson and Elizabeth Walker then we might make some headway, but there are too few of those who voice out and speak up loud enough and vote that way. Fence sitting isn't what is needed, then we have the Democrats, 10 who voted to not protect women on rape issues in the military, so even on social issues some are failing.

Voting certainly matters, it's all we have at this point, and if people don't vote they will take that away too, as is already being done by the Republicans in many States making it harder for the Elders who will come out of the Social Security issues to vote, harder for the students or youth as they will vote on fighting for gaining rights to a higher education, protecting women's reproductive rights, are more advanced on gay issues, also keeping a lot of minorities out as they are becoming the biggest majority within this Country.

The Supreme Court, under whatever Administration needs to be accountable when it is clearly making solely decisions based on siding with the Corporations. Right now there doesn't seem to be any accountability for them. They are clearly in places that are questionable in social events, their spouses have positions that are of great influence for the Corporations.......yet nothing can seemly be done. They are like a diplomat which can't be touched. If our Democracy had loopholes and it appears it did, these people have taken advantage of each and every one of them.

Thank you dearly Dandelion and Angelica, for the many petitions which I gladly signed. As I have said before- I will use a razor into my car to preserve my original Credo bumper sticker saying Impeach the Supreme Court 5.
I am 'confused' as to the date of the protest while trying to sign up. Is it today or Dec.31 (which confuses me)? I've been extremely ill with the flu and am not comprehending well, although this is DEFINITELY a cause I feel compelled to attend.

This was just a petition for today for this thread.

Angelika had posted a post about an Occupy WAVE action at former Occupy sites around this Country for the 4th.....tomorrow.

To find a location or happening nearest you go to the news link she left at:
The Wave Through Occupy

On the 15th of April Represent Us is asking for people to take photos or video of anything they do so they can use it for an upcoming video to inspire more people to get out and raise their voices.

To view that video you can go to the link below.
April 15 is Representation Day

Sherri mentions a demonstration on June 20th near her that is Nationwide. Maybe she can leave a link to that on here.

I hope you feel better soon, perhaps tomorrow isn't anything you can do but maybe by the 15th and surely do hope by June you'll be fit as a fiddle.

I applaud what this group of young people are doing. We must get the FACTS, like they did, about EVERY candidate and not judge by Party affiliation alone. Next thing we know we will have people voting for a third party who cannot win in the climate of the two party electoral system and the Republicans will waltz on in to complete the corporate takeover.

Taking away Democratic Party votes is exactly what the Republican Party wants. Please do not fall into that trap. If you do, we will have the people who did to thank for allowing more Republican/Tea Party members into our government to strike the final blow to our democracy. It is not true that Democrats took in just as much corporate money as Republicans. Please look for the facts and find the numbers. Find out who supports the candidates and then ask the candidates why. And remember, Republicans will do anything to win elections, including allowing for the donation of funds from questionable corporate backers to Democrats just so that they will not be voted for. The Party is full of sharks. And they are desperate now that they can taste the blood of victory over the country. This is the final step in the killing of democracy as we know it. Yes, get money out of our politics but please do not vote third party and think you are helping to do that, because you won't be, unless you decide not to vote Republican and vote for third party. Deciding to vote for a third party instead of a Democrat, at this point in time, will seal the coffin on our democracy. Just picture what would happen if I am correct and Republicans take over the House, the Senate and Presidency. Just picture it. No more minimum wage, no more Social Security, ACA is dusted immediately, Medicare gone, Food Stamps gone, no more regulations on banks at all, FDA, USDA ... all of it would be gone. Everything that people of the past in this country have fought for and died for would be gone. That is what they want now. They want it all gone. So please think very, very carefully about how you choose to fight the takeover of our country.

This is where you and I do not agree on how to solve the problem of greed in our government, Sheryl. It has to be with careful consideration of outcomes for actions, not with emotional responses, dreams of clearing out all of them and putting in wonderful people who will represent the people all at once.

The Tea Party showed us how to do it. We put Progressives into our government on the Democratic ticket. That is the ONLY way, right now, that we can get these people into office. Remember, there are GOOD Democrats in our government. There are NO good Republicans. PERIOD. Right now we have to vote in the Democrats that are good, get good Democrats running, get Progressives to run on the Democratic ticket because if you vote third party without a majority of people being members of that third party you CANNOT win. Independents do NOT have a majority. Green Party does NOT have a majority. Progressive Party does NOT have a majority. You cannot win a national election with a minority vote. The repercussions of allowing for the Republicans to take over every branch of our government are too great to even consider it trying it right now.

Noted. Many thanks for posting, Dandelion. ALL petitions signed; messages sent---thank you, Angelika.
I had a feeling it was going to go this way; but hoped against hope. The SCOTUS minority opinion was quite scathing, though....I read that earlier. There's still a movement in Congress (MoveToAmend.org) for an amendment to nullify the Citizens United ruling, and I'm sure this will also be included. Many communities have already outlawed this, but they still need more People Power. All info can be found at that website.

Dandelion G. (386)

I believe in The Power of The People.....not Political Parties.

I will vote for People and if the Democratic Party continues to bring forth people like Alan Grayson, Sherrod Brown, Barbara Lee, and Elizabeth Warren, I'd vote for them.

But it took 2 Parties to get us to this mess and on the last Federal Elections we have the greater of two Evil as all were stating, what kind of choice was that. It was no choice in my book.

We have the Republicans who spout how conservative they are in spending and other things, yet they get us into Wars while at the same time lowering the taxes on the most wealthy. No other Administration ever did that in history, if going into a war, one must increase taxes to pay for it. One should only go into wars as absolute last resort......not for the way the Bush Administration did. The majority of the players on the Republican side is being pushed by some religious dogma that has been used by the Corporate money people to meet their own interests. What a horrid mix. Their social stance on people is far from spiritual in my book, it is harsh, critical in a narrowest minded way possible.

On the flip side I'll not vote for the Obama Administration that also voted in NDAA and when had an opportunity did not get rid of the Patriot Act. Those things have stripped us of many rights. Why would I want to vote for a Party that has done that? Many of us who have gone to 3rd Parties to vote do so as we are voting with our own conscious and our own hearts, call it emotional if you want, but I feel the 3rd Party people I speak to our highly intelligent. If we didn't have these other choices then we'd not vote at all......to vote for someone we do not believe in and feel is completely wrong is to support that which we feel we can't.

It was Bill Clinton, a Democrat that signed away our Glass-Steagall protections that opened to flood to the Wall Street fiasco and the Banking Scams that has taken millions of homes from people and has left many with now having mortgages that are underwater.

President Clinton is the one that signed into being NAFTA that started the process of shipping our job overseas and stagnated wages. President Obama is pushing for the TPP which is NAFTA on steroids. He also caved to the Republican plan for the health care reform instead of standing strong for a Universal Health Care and many jumped into this ACA from the Democratic side and the Republicans instead of cheering that they got their way with this ACA, that was promoted by their right wing agenda "think tanks" and placed in first as RomeneyCare in Massachusetts hate it because it was done under a Democrat Administration. Again, craziness from a Party that can't even own up to what it had started.

It was under Clinton that the welfare reform laws were changed that has forced more children into poverty and undo hardship onto single run households, mostly women. While the Republicans are doing their best to make sure these women suffer even more, wanting to even eliminate birth control in some States, forcing the women to be subjected to law enforcement if they miscarry, and cutting back of Food help while increasing the Corporate Farms help in tax subsidies.

Gee with two Parties like that, who needs an enemy. Neither Party is truly pushing for Environmental policies the way they should and frankly we don't have much more time to wait. How many feet of water do we need to stand in to vote in People who truly have the Environment and the policies surrounding it as a priority. It will matter not about anything issue at all if we don't have clean water to drink or the methane gas is released out of the tundra and poison us all.

So you all can support those Parties if you want, many of us are moving to support People who may not be in a particular major Party. History has shown that it's the 3rd Parties that nip at the feet of the major Parties and get them to finally start acting and voting sensible. When they start to see themselves loosing out of more of The People then they start to re-evaluate themselves.

So if you stay with the two major Parties you best fix em for it took these 2 Parties to get in this mess we now have ourselves in. As I said, I'll vote for good candidates but I'll not toot the horns of these two Parties that have shown how to climb in bed with the Corporations, turned a blind eye on the damages being done to the environment and actually made policies to help this destruction along, and screwed the people of their dreams, their futures, and removed our Republic from us.

Einstein said, "Stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result"

My husband use to say, "Fool me once shame on you, food me twice, shame on me. I'm done being played a fool.

3rd Parties are as strong as The People make them. If you want to keep playing that game then that is a choice you have made, but I've chosen to make another choice, those other two options haven't been working so I'm doing something else. When Alan Grayson ran here in Florida I helped to support him with my efforts and I still continue to do so. I reached up into Massachusetts where I had lived to help Elizabeth Warren......good people. I pushed for them as people not a Party.

I signed in an email, but signed again. So much to say, so little that has not been said. This brought out some very good comments. I worry that while we vent our anger online few will actually show up for the rallies, bother to write and call their Senators and Congressional Representative or send a letter to SCOTUS asking why they are so quick to sell us all down the river. Yes, you can write to them, and no they are not always right. Over the years of our history many Courts have offered up dastardly and clearly unconstitutional rulings.

Citizens United, McCutcheon, removing needed protections in the VRA are just the tip of this iceberg. Do you really think these are decisions without personal leanings? I do not.

Magnificent posts everyone. We both have signed all of the petitions you have so generously shared. Thank you all. This elecion cycle will be the most important one. We should all get behind the congressional and senatorial elections.Dandelion, 3rd party candidates are wishful thinking as they usually just subtract votes from the major candidates. First, get a congress and senate that will get this country moving again. We can weed them out from there.

Question: Is it even possible to impeach a member of the supreme court?????????

Dandelion G. (386)
Monday April 7, 2014, 11:16 am
When I see no major Candidate to vote for, or has sold my rights away, they do not get my support with a vote.

Voting for the lesser of two evils is still evil......and it's been the TWO major Parties that got us here. Why do so many think they'll suddenly change now.

Both major Parties are loosing membership.......and many have just dropped out of voting altogether as they are not realizing there is another choice.
