Our needs for power and greed, have very often out-weighed, our care for our planet and other living creatures, including humans.
What we refuse to face is, while we are destroying most things around us, we are destroying ourselves. If we don't work together as a single unit, we don't work at all, and the childish demand for immediate gratification will be our undoing.

Why have the Teapublicans blocked this way of thinking? It is not only non-Christian, is it not sustainable. With this way of thinking, we are all doomed to either self-extinction or extremely unhappy lives.
One thing is certain, if everyone lived only for themself, this is not a place any of us would want to live.

Noted. Thanks, Dandelion. Yes, it's past time for some truly drastic changes. All of us here at Care2 do whatever we can and must just continue to try to educate and inform others. There IS strength is numbers!

Thanks for the info, Dandelion, this is really a scary trend.

This trend is chilling. The report states that the figures for 2013 under-represent the number of environmentalists killed, too. Sadly noted, Dandelion.

Noted and shared. I found it sad, that in all of those deaths, only 6 people have been tried and convicted.

Noted yes this is definitely scary that it has come to this. People die or land defense and only 6 people have actually been convicted for these killings, not right at all. If it keeps up at this rate we will kill our selves. But if you notice where the spike was between 2011 and 2012, this is where people were really getting anxious due to the lost of jobs, floods, recession tough times.

Very true, B L. and I'm afraid this spike will continue to climb as the quest for new resources invade more lands of greater population of people, the migrations of people caused by their loss of land, water, and food sources, that as more people begin to come to the awareness of what is behind their issues and problems, that the more that a people stand up and fight back the more "the machine" will push back and fight them. This isn't going to be easy to do and many will loose their lives to obtain a fair, just, and clean system around the world that will sustain all of a people living upon our Earth. However, there is no choice in the matter, if those who are seeing the writing on the wall do not stand up then they realize we are all doomed. Each of us must in fact do our part however we can, for others give their life for us, we must be ready to do our part, even if it is to get the education out to the masses, change our own lifestyles where we can at this time, and financially support those who strive for a clean system to come on board if that is within our means to do so. But each of us must do something.

Many people were killed in Zimbabwe for their land, but this graph shows global. So this is very scary! Thanks Sheryl.

Sorry Dandelion - I missed this somehow in June, but saw the link in one of your latest posts. This is utterly terrifying! I don't know where the statistic of 6 people tried and convicted comes from (I read the brief article three times and couldn't see it, but that may be my dyslexia) but it sounds as if the multinationals and their thugs can kill at will. Terrifying.

Thank you Pat for coming over to the link that I had left in another story. Yes, this is open season on those who are on the front lines trying to protect the lands and waters and those that are connected to those areas be they animals or people.

Within the article there is something that looks like a book, that give a lot more detail to this who article. On the book within this article it reads "click here'. I'm glad 6 were convicted and punished, however, that is a drop in the bucket compared to how many have been killed. The odds are they will get away with these murders and I believe they know it, so they do kill at will.
